Avery looked at Kai keenly and asked. ''You want me to be indebted to you?''

''Yes, is that a bad thing?''

''Alright! Let's say that I am indebted to you then. You saved my life three times already, I am not someone who is ungrateful, if you ever need something or help from me, even if I have to offer my life, just tell me. I will do it.'' Avery said seriously.

Kai chuckled. ''You don't have to be so serious. I won't ask for your life. Take it as a debt I am finally getting the chance to repay.'' Kai looked at the pendant hanging out of the pajamas. This was the first time he was seeing it on Avery's neck.

''This pendant… where did you get it from?'' Kai asked.

''This…'' Avery touched the pendant. 'I don't know. I got into a pretty bad accident a few years ago. When I woke up, it was around my neck. Why do you ask?''

''Nothing!''

''But… sometimes I think that it is my lucky charm. I feel safe and reassured with it around my neck.'' Avery smiled.

''I have a meeting this morning. I will be back tonight with the things that you need. If you want anything, send me a message.'' Kai said as he picked his coat to wear.

''I… nothing. See you tonight.'' Avery said. she wanted to talk about the deal he made with his grandfather but thought it wasn't right to speak about it. Since he didn't want to talk about it with her, it was better to let it go.

Kai nodded his head and went out. Avery looked at him from the glass as he got into the car with Mr. Jun.

Kai put on the coat and a scented smell rasped through his nose and he froze. It was the smell of Avery's shower gel. Because she wore it over the towel, the coat took some of the scent from her body.

''Prosecutor Oak, are you alright?'' Mr. Jun asked and Kai shook his head.

''I'm fine, let's go.'' Kai said.

''I still don't get it.'' Mr. Jun said. 'You are the last person I thought would offer a helping hand to Detective Sandas but now you are not only helping her but you practically saved her life numerous times. Do you know? In the ancient times, once you save a woman more than twice she would have to give herself to you in marriage. So in other words, if Detective Avery doesn't have anything to pay you back with, she would have to give herself to you in marriage.'' Mr. Jun teased.

''What? What kind of logic is that?'' Kai shook his head.

''I'm serious. Look at my wife. She was clumsy in school and would always get in trouble. Once I saved her a few times, she fell for me and now we are married with three beautiful kids. I'm saying that could also be your story.''

''That won't be. Detective Avery and I are two different people. I only need her because she is the only witness in the murder case of Anita. Once we solve that case, we will go our separate paths.''

''But you signed a contract with her stepbrother to take care of her. Technically, if Avery doesn't propose a breakup, you cannot leave her. It's a legally binding contract. Why did you even sign that in the first place? That was so unlike you.''

''I know, right? I must have gone crazy for a second.'' Kai said and closed his eyes.

Avery sent the empty to the sink and suddenly thought about Fiona. 'Right, Fiona doesn't know where I am. I hope she sees Prosecutor Oak and follows him. If not, then I have to find a way to get to her.''

Avery turned when her phone started ringing. She went to the hall and picked it up. It was a call from Mariah.

''Hello, constable Mariah.''

''Avery, are you alright? Where are you?'' Mariah asked worriedly. She was seated in her office as she spoke with Avery.

''I'm fine. I got out of the house before Detective Gid and his men came in. But, constable, why is detective Gid suddenly involved in this case? I thought he was a…''

''Money changes people. Avery, I want you to settle whatever issues you have with the Prime Minister before the disciplinary hearing which is in two days' time.''

''I understand. I will do that.'' Avery said and hung up the call.

Avery sat in the hall and sighed. She was thinking of a way to get back to the town when a thought came to mind. Avery smirked and muttered.

''Why didn't I think of that?''

When Kai arrived at the Prosecutors' office, a lot of his colleagues gathered around him to congratulate him for becoming the deputy chief Prosecutor. He was the youngest to ever hold that position.

Kai felt a little awkward receiving their congratulations but he smiled all the same and thanked them.

After a while, the other Prosecutors' left the office and the Chief Prosecutor entered. He was someone Kai respected a lot because he was always on the side of what was right.

''Deputy Chief Prosecutor Oak…'' the Chief Prosecutor said as he touched looked at the shiny nameplate on the table.

''Chief, you are making me shy.'' Kai said politely.

''What are you shy about? I am quite happy that you are the one in this position. You've worked hard and have earned it.''

''I will continue to work hard.'' Kai said.

''Sit down, I want to discuss something with you.'' The chief Prosecutor said, sounding serious.

''What is it, Chief?'' Kai asked as he sat on the office couch.

''I received a letter from the Head office. It looks like they want to prosecute Detective Sandas. The allegations leveled against her are quite outrageous.''

Kai looked at the Chief Prosecutor and sighed.

''This is breaking news! Detective Sandas, the police officer who escorted the suspect of high theft and Political Assault case to the women's correction institute was found guilty of being an accomplice of the criminal. Detective Sandas is currently on the run. If anyone sees her, they should report to the nearest police station for a reward.''

''The high level theft and Political assault case is presumed as a serious case because Miss Fiona in the past two weeks has attacked many politicians, including the Prime Minister, the CEOs of many companies. One of the alarming cases being threatening to release inappropriate videos and clips of the people involved, using a special coding system to transfer a large amount of money from the Prime Minister's bank account into the account of Detective Sandas.''

''This case has become quite interesting as the turn of events wasn't what a lot of people expected. Detective Sandas is known in the police department as someone who readily accepted bribes and was in cohorts of many gamblers just to mention a few.''

''The Prime Minister has since being hospitalize due to the trauma caused. The entire police force is seeking to punish Detective Sandas severely….''

Avery watched the news and chuckled. She turned when she heard her phone ringing.

''Senior, where are you? Are you alright?'' Suleiman asked over the phone when Avery answered.

''Well… I am still alive. Don't worry, I'm fine. I'm at a safe place. How are things going on there?'' Avery asked.

''Senior, things are not looking good here. Constable Mariah is trying to protect you but Detective Gid is also looking for ways to arrest you. Just now, I heard him telling the Chief to sign some papers that would allow him to send your headshots to the various news stations.''

''I just watched the news. They are trying to force me to come out?'' Avery chuckled.

''Senior, what are your plans? A lot of people now know your face and it will be difficult to buy anything or go outside.'' Suleiman was worried about Avery.

''My plans?'' Avery smiled. 'Whatever I plan to do, you will hear about it once it's out. Take care of yourself and don't let anyone know that you are in contact with me…'' Avery was speaking when she suddenly heard Detective Gid's voice.

''Detective Sandas, why don't you hand yourself in? it will safe us a lot of trouble.'' Detective Gid said after snatching the phone from Suleiman.
