Arrest warrant

''How is that possible?'' Mariah asked.

''The money was embezzled using a system called the Money firm code. It is a software created in Russia and can be used to steal money from any bank. Xing City is still finding a way to track down the owner of the code in the country but we believe it is Detective Sanders.'' Denis added.

''Detective Sanchez, you don't know Avery but she is one who can absolutely do anything for money.''

''Is that why you sent someone to get rid of Avery this morning after the failed attempts at the hospital?'' Mariah asked Denis.

''I…''

''Let me make this clear, if anything happens to Avery I will not let you off. As for the money, I will look into it. No matter how hungry Avery is for money, I don't think she would take money that isn't hers to begin with.''

''We have all the evidence against Avery. Why are you hesitating, Detective Sanchez? If we don't arrest Avery and find out where she sent the money, then she will just quit her job and run away.'' Detective Gid stood up and asked Mariah.

''What?'' Mariah looked at him.

''Let's work together. Detective Avery is crazier than you think. She is a total nutcase. You will not be able to tame her alone. She can betray you at any time.'' Detective Gid said with contempt.

''That's enough, Detective Gid. Sit down!'' The commissioner spoke. He turned to Mariah. ''Mariah, this is the first time I am asking for a favor, right? Can't you give your uncle some face?'' He asked.

''This is wrong, uncle. I understand that a lot of money is involved here but the person who sent that money into Avery's account is the woman who is currently in coma. Avery might really have nothing to do with it. I can't arrest her based on speculations without evidence.''

''You are not the one going to arrest her. Detective Gid would and the Chief would sign a warrant for her arrest. I just need you to talk her into showing you where she sent the money. This is state money.'' The commissioner said.

''Looks like you made your decision already. I was merely getting informed. It's getting late, I should get going.'' Mariah said and walked out. Denis stood up and followed suit.

''Miss Sanchez…'' Denis called as he walked towards Mariah.

''Is there anything left?'' Mariah asked.

''No! I just came out to tell you something.''

''What could that be?''

''Here, I thought you might be interested in listening to it.'' Denis placed a recording in Mariah's palm before turning away. Mariah looked at the recording and walked away.

''Why don't you give me 50% of the $50 billion dollars? That way, I know I am not working for chicken change. If I am going to bring you that amount of money, then, I should get something out of it.''

Mariah paused the recording and tussled her hair. She looked at the recorder and sighed. As she was about to start the car, her phone rang. It was a call from Avery.

''Hello, Detective Sandas, what can I do for you?'' Mariah asked coldly. Honestly, she wasn't in the best of moods.

''I… I want to ask if you are available for dinner tomorrow night?''

''Dinner? Why do you ask?''

''You've done a lot for me, so…''

''Avery, instead of dinner, can you answer this question?'' Mariah asked.

''Yes, what question is it?''

''Did you take out the $50 billion dollars from the bank?''

''Huh? No! Wait… did something happen to the money?'' Avery asked.

''The money disappeared and the Prime Minister thinks you have a hand in it. I just need to know what your thoughts are on it.'' Mariah said.

''If I say I have nothing to do with it, will you believe me?'' Avery asked.

''I believe you but not everyone does. Tomorrow in the morning, you will be arrested for stealing state money. That's all I can say. Do with it what you want with that information Avery. My job is on the line.''

''I understand. Thank you for letting me know.'' Avery said and hung up.

Mariah leaned against the seat and sighed.

Fiona's gym house.

''Fiona, what happened to the money you kept in my account?'' Avery turned and asked Fiona whom was eating.

''Right, today is 20th August, right? The money got transferred naturally into another account. It will be getting transferred into different accounts every ten days. That's how I made it.'' Fiona said.

Avery furrowed her brows. ''Why are you hiding a lot of things from me?''

''I told you, I will tell you one at a time. Our target is The Prime Minister Boris and the $50 billion dollars. Once we solve the mystery behind that money, I will tell you why I attacked him.''

''Wasn't this about Dahun Orphanage?''

''It is, but Minister Boris isn't the only in involved in the case. If anything, there is someone bigger behind the scenes. We are going to keep pushing the Prime Minister to the wall until that person behind him get pissed off and come out. He is the real enemy, Avery. He is the one who caused the arson, and took away Anita.''

''Anita?…'' Avery's breath became heavier as she mentioned the name. A flash of intense light passed through her eyes and she fell down.

''Avery, are you alright?'' Fiona asked.

''I… I don't know. I just…''

''I'm sorry. I will bring you a glass of water.'' Fiona hurried to the table and poured a glass of water and brought it to Avery.

''Anita… why do I feel that I am missing an important part of my memory? The name is oddly familiar…'' Avery said as tears fall from her eyes.

''Avery…'' Fiona sat across Avery and held her hands. ''It's okay, listen to me… try to take a deep breath.''

Avery followed Fiona's instructions and took a few deep breaths. She gradually calmed down and looked at Fiona.

''Who is Anita? Can you tell me about her?''

''You don't have to be in a rush. Take your time. You will know everything in due time.'' Fiona said and hugged Avery.

Hans Island Police Station…

Detective Gid ran out of the police station with four other police officials. He was holding an arrest warrant in his hands as he shouted out some instructions while getting inside the car.

''I want all of you to be vigilant. We must not let Avery Sandas escape.''

''Yes, Detective Gid.'' The officials responded as they got inside the police van.

Suleiman ran out of the building, trying to reach Avery on the phone but she wasn't answering. He tried a few times and decided to call Kai.

''Hello…'' Kai answered.

''Prosecutor Oak, what do I do? The chief just issued an arrest warrant for senior. He said it was out of his control and that the directive came from the higher ups.''

''Okay!'' Kai hung up.

Suleiman looked at the phone and heard Mariah calling him. He looked up and hurried over to her.

''What is it, Suleiman?'' Mariah asked.

''Detective Gid has gone to arrest Senior. She is charged with bribery and embezzlement of money.''

''What?'' Mariah ran inside and entered Chief Johnson's office. ''Chief, what is the meaning of this? Why did you sign on such a warrant? They are just trying to put Avery in jail at this point.''

''Mariah, I understand what you mean but this was an order from the Commissioner. I am just a Chief here. I hold no power against the commissioner.''

''Damn it!'' Mariah cussed and walked out.

Fiona's house….

Avery tied a bonnet around her hair and looked at the mirror. ''Where did this pimple come from?''

Avery sighed and was about to turn when she heard someone fall from the bedroom. ''Fiona? Did she return from the hospital already?''

Fiona had gone to the hospital to gain some energy in the morning and it was left with Avery alone. when Avery didn't hear any voice, she picked the towel on the side and tied it around her body and walked out.

''Fiona…'' Avery heard the siren of the police outside the gym. She stepped out and was going to the window when a hand pulled her back into the bathroom.

''Don't!'' Kai said as he covered Avery's mouth with his hand. Their bodies were closed to each other that they could hear each other's breath.

Avery looked at Kai with a shocked expression.

''Ssssh!'' Kai said and took his hand away. He looked away and took off his trench coat and gave it to Avery. ''Put this on first.''

''Those are the police, right?'' Avery asked softly.

Kai nodded. ''They are looking for you to arrest you for being an accomplice and accepting bribes. Detective Gid is leading the team.'' Kai explained.

Avery tied the robes of the trench coat around her waist and asked. ''Did you come here to save me?''

''We need to find a way out of this place first. Do you have any escape route?'' Kai asked.
