A woman born under the sun

''Get out. How can you tell me to settle? Are you not a woman? Don't you think you are being unreasonable?'' Miss Lizzy screamed.

''Unreasonable? Miss Lizzy, the one being delusional and unreasonable is you. You trust that Prosecutor so much but you are going to get disappointed at the end.'' Avery's words came out a little cold and indifferent making the woman angry.

''Get out!'' Miss Lizzy yelled and her heart monitor started going off. The doctor and nurse quickly rushed in to check her.

''What happened, Senior?'' Suleiman rushed in and asked.

''Nothing, let's go!'' Avery looked at the doctor as he attended to the woman and she walked out.

''Senior, your shirt…'' Suleiman removed his jacket and placed it around Avery's body.

''Thank you, Suleiman!'' Avery covered herself up with the jacket. She turned and looked at the woman before leaving the ward.

''Senior, what did you tell the victim? Why did she suddenly become so agitated?'' Suleiman asked as they got to the car.

''The truth. I told her the truth and she got offended.'' Avery said as they got into the car. She chuckled but it didn't reach her eyes.

''The truth?'' Suleiman wasn't sure of what truth it was. He shook his head and entered the driver's seat and started the car.

Han Island District Prosecutor's Offices.

Prosecutor Oak's office.

''How is she now? Alright, thanks for informing me.'' Kai hung up and looked at Mr. Jun and asked.

''Do you know Detective Sandas from the police department?'' Kai asked.

''Avery Sandas, I know her. She is quite popular in our circle but for the wrong reasons.'' Mr. Jun pulled a chair to sit across Kai.

''Tell me what you know about her.'' Kai closed the file on the table and listened carefully.

''She completed the Police Institute five years ago and begun working at the Hans Island Police station about two years ago. She is best known for taking bribes and letting criminals off the hog. She hangs out with criminal and has connections to the District K drug lord, Adonis Birchwood. She is someone who is hungry for money and doesn't care what she has to do to get that money.'' Mr. Jun said.

''She is unscrupulous, then?'' Kai asked.

''Yes, but the funny thing is, she is hungry for money but her bank account is always empty. No one knows where the money goes to and she is very frugal. I heard when she was just a junior she used to eat once a day and her goal in life is to retire at the age of 30. Right now, she is 24 years. From what I got about her, the number 30 is special to her. She used 30 seconds to go to the washroom, 30 minutes to get ready for work and 30 hours to get a case closed. She is an odd ball. The interesting part is she doesn't have a friend. She only lives for herself.'' Mr. Jun added.

''How do you know all this about her?'' Kai became more curious.

''When she was 18 years, she got arrested for doing drugs. I was the investigator at that time. She was found with drugs and almost got expelled from school. She kept insisting that she was innocent. Aye, I still remember that day clearly'' Mr. Jun sat across Kai.

Flashback….

The year 20xx

''I didn't do it. I spent sleepless nights studying so I could pass the civil exams. Do you think I would risk all of that by doing drugs? Even if I did do you think I would be so stupid to get caught?'' Avery cussed.

''But the drugs were found in your possession. How do you explain that?'' Detective Bruce asked.

''Officer, I swear, you have to believe me. I really don't know where those drugs came from.'' Avery said and brushed her hair backwards. Her eyes looked red and her appearance looked rugged.

''Why won't anyone believe me?'' Avery leaned back and asked in a teary gaze.

Mr. Jun sighed as he reminisced over the past.

''That year, I still remember. She looked so innocent and harmless. When I first heard the rumors about her taking bribes and been the pawn of the higher ups, I couldn't believe it. How could such a person change so much?'' Mr. Jun sighed.

''What happened to her afterwards?'' Kai asked.

''On the day of the final civil exams, when they were searching them, they found the drug in her pocket. When she was brought in, she refused to talk to anyone. I was the only one who managed to get her to speak but she kept saying that someone was framing her and she didn't know anything about the drugs. I believed her but what was the use?''

''I was just a detective and couldn't do much. When she did the drug test and nothing was found in her body, she was let off. But that stigma was still there. I decided to look into the case after a few months and I found that someone had indeed snuck the drug into her pocket. That was how she was freed and made to take the state exams a year after. Later on, the late Detective Bruce decided to take her under his wing and personally trained her to be a police officer.''

' 'I see…'' Kai sighed.

''Prosecutor Oak, why did Avery go there? As far as I know Detective Gid was in charge of the case.'' Mr. Jun asked.

''She is the one in charge of the case. I heard it was taken from Detective Gid and handed over to her.''

''They want her to close the case and settle outside of court. Detective Gid is on your side so he wouldn't have agreed to it. That's why they handed over the case to Avery.''

''Yes, because she is hungry for power and money. This type of woman is the kind I hate so much.'' Kai's face turned cold as he spoke.

Sun Jun sighed as he looked at Kai.

Kai's phone started ringing and he looked at it. ''It's my mother…''

''Okay, answer it!'' Sun Jun said and went out of the office.

''Mom, what is it?'' Kai asked when he answered the call.

''Son, where are you?'' Mrs. Oak asked over the phone.

''Where would I be? I am at the office. What is it, this time?''

''Son, I went to the shaman this morning and she something about you…''

''Mom, didn't I tell you to stop visiting those places?'' Kai massaged his forehead.

''Son, you are my only child. How can I not protect you? Any ways, the shaman said you have to avoid a woman born under the fire signs. She said a Sagittarius woman with the soul of a Leo woman is looking to destroy you. Son, have you met any peculiar women lately? The women at your work…''

''Mom, I'm busy. Talk to you later…'' Kai said and hung up immediately to prevent his mother from going on.

Kai sighed and muttered, ''a Sagittarius woman with the soul of Leo? What a weird combo. What is my mum doing lately? I can't believe I am actually thinking about such a thing.'' Kai shook his head.
