Operation Intrude FO14-Y2K

A few hours have passed since they left the States, Snake was woken up by Holly shaking him,

"C'mon Snake, we're here." She said, Snake slowly got up and stretched himself a little bit to prepare himself for the jump. Holly came back from the cockpit with three parachutes and helmets,

"You guys know when you're jumping and where you guys are landing." Holly said, the two nodded and began putting on the parachutes,

"Nervous?" Snake asked Holly,

"A little, but you're jumping first so it eases my mind." joked Holly,

"Right…I'll see you on the ground." Snake told her as he put his helmet on. He saw the cargo doors begin to slowly open, the wind was howling as it blew inside. Suddenly, Snake began hearing the intro riff to Kickstart My Heart by Mötley Crüe blast loudly inside the plane, he turned around and saw Holly fist bumping in the air and stomping her foot in beat.

"C'mon! Get pumped, we're about to kick ass and save the world!" Holly cheered, Snake facepalmed but couldn't deny he was grinning despite his feelings.

"Ah! I can tell you're smiling, we got a smile, Gustava!" Holly happily exclaimed which made Gustava crack a smile. Snake chuckled and nodded then turned around, he's done this a hundred times before and took a deep breath as the song was reaching the chorus,

"Alright, it's showtime." Snake said as he jumped out the plane, diving into the breezing storm blowing over the small nation of Zanzibar Lands. Snake lunged and rotated forward, doing a flip three times in a row to build more speed. This was no different than the HALO jumps he's done before, he did his usual counting down from 60 as the main base of Zanzibar Lands began to come into his view. Once he saw that he was close enough, Snake reached and pulled the string to release his parachute, the wind tugged him back a little but began to slow him down. In just a few minutes, Solid Snake descended onto the muddy grassy terrain of Zanzibar Lands, he cut off the parachute and removed the helmet, the wind blowing his bandana in the air. Snake dialed the frequency of 140.85 then tapped his ear device,

"This is Solid Snake, I've reached my infiltration point." Snake said,

"Snake, right on time as always." Campbell replied through the codec,

"I've also touched down at my infiltration point." Holly chimed in on her end,

"Same with me." followed up Gustava,

"Excellent, let's all get started. Commencing Operation FO14-Y2K now. Let's go over this one more time, your orders are to infiltrate Zanzibar Lands, find the kidnapped scientists Dr Kio Marv, Dr Drago Madnar and Dr Johan Jacobsen then eliminate Frank Jaeger Aka Gray Fox. I will be commanding officer of this mission, to contact me, my frequency is 140.85. Houseman's frequency is 140.66 and Meryl Silverburgh's frequency is 140.15." Snake looked flabbergasted once he heard that,

"Wait Meryl?" He asked,

"Hi Snake." said Meryl,

"What are you doing here?"

"Well, I do have a degree in psychology, the soldier's mental health is crucial to their success in the mission. So if you or anyone else needs someone to talk to, I'm here, my frequency is 140.15" Meryl explained,

"I'm also here." chimed in Kaz,

"You too Kaz?" Snake asked,

"Listen, I'm against it but no one knows Big Boss and his army like I do. I can give context to things many of you guys are not familiar with, my frequency is 140.38." explained Kaz,

"And you guys know me, Kasler. My frequency is 140.93." Kasler added.

"Perfect now that we got that out the way, Snake you've all been given a new anti-personnel sensor on the codecs, try switching it on." suggested Campbell, Snake tapped his codec to activate the sensor.

"Roger…it's on now." Snake said,

"Mines too." Holly answered,

"Me too." Gustava also answered.

"Perfect, just know if you are caught the sensor will get jammed by the enemy. Good luck to you all, Colonel Campbell over and out." The call ended and Snake took a deep breath, he checked his magazines for his M1911 and then attached the silencer. Solid Snake got up and began pacing towards the gates of the Zanzibar Building, he then began hearing something odd, a quiet mellow yet psychedelic song. Confused by the song, he tried continuing forward where he spotted three Zanzibar Soldiers, two outside the gate and one inside. He slowly walked to the one who was standing next to two oil tanks that were connected into the ground. Snake quickly wrapped his arms around the soldier's head and began putting him to sleep with a vice grip. Snake then crouched on one knee and dialed Campbell,

"Colonel, there's a strange song playing through the base."

"That's odd, what's the song Snake?" Colonel Campbell replied,

"It's White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. It's one of Frank's favorite songs." chimed in Gustava,

"Yeah…I'm familiar with the song." Kaz also addressed.

"Is there a reason why Fox is playing this song throughout the base?" asked Campbell,

"Yeah, Gustava, did Frank ever discuss his childhood?" asked Kaz,

"I tried to pry into it but it was rare when he was sensitive. I know he was raised in Vietnam during the war, he would occasionally have severe flashbacks and night terrors from the war." Gustava replied,

"Yeah I was there during the war, that's where I met them. Big Boss told me that Frank was raised by a Viet-Cong mother and at a young age witnesses a platoon violate and kill her. He spent months hungry and trained himself in the art of killing, he spent his childhood listening to the sounds of gunfire, explosions and horrified screams as the US soldiers did what they did best." Kaz explained, Snake sighed after hearing the details about Frank's past,

"By God…" Snake mumbled,

"Yeah, when I met him, my Navy crew was captured by the Vietnamese and he and Big Boss came to rescue us and…for just a kid, he tore those Vietnamese into shreds…I never seen such violence in the war like him. The only thing that helped him calm down from combat was a Raytheon radio taped onto his back that would tune into a radio station that played music from America. I'm guessing Frank wants to keep himself focused for battle." further explained Kaz,

"Yeah I researched it in college, it's music therapy for soldiers, it helps them communicate their feelings better." Meryl chimes in,

"Well, what does this song tell you about, Frank?" asked Snake,

"Well the song is referring to the White Rabbit from Alice and Wonderland , I think what Frank is trying to say is prepare for you guys to dive into this insane world of theirs." elaborated Meryl,

"I see, thanks for the heads up." Snake replied,

"Maybe I should try that with you, Snake." suggested Meryl,

"Give me a music player?" asked Snake,

"I already know all your favorite songs, I can make a compilation into a couple of tapes and you can use your old Walkman again." Meryl eagerly said,

"Maybe…" Snake hung up and began searching through the soldier's body for anything useful.

" Great, nothing… " thought Snake. He then took a few steps to peak around the corner, noticing the soldier turn around quickly and Snake sprinted towards the right side of the fence. The operative glanced down to see an opening on the fence, Snake laid on his stomach and crawled under it to enter the other side. Solid then got up and went towards the left, following the trail of the fenced hallway while occasionally glancing at his radar to see the positioning of the soldiers. He then turned to the right and once he reached towards the end of the hallway, did a sharp left turn and noticed a Zanzibar soldier standing in front of another opening on the second fence. Right as the soldier was reaching for his radio, Snake quickly ran up behind him and lunged towards him, wrapping his arms around his throat and head to choke him out cold. Solid Snake then crawled under the opening and continued forward until he noticed a soldier on the other side of the last fence. Snake got out his M1911 and shot the soldier in the head which caught the attention of another soldier who was standing in front of another opening in the last fence. The experienced Solid Snake quickly ran towards him, launched himself towards the Zanzibar soldier then knocked him out with a knee strike and slid under the opening smoothly. Snake made his way to the entrance only to see it was guarded by two soldiers and sealed shut.

" Shit…no way in. Unless ?" Snake quickly walked towards the right while being crouched, making sure to not alert them. He then spotted an open vent shaft on the building that was facing in front of a parked truck. He looked around and began to think of a way to get up to climb inside the vent. It then came to him and he quickly ran towards the truck and climbed on top. His sight locked onto the vent, Solid Snake ran and leapt towards it, sliding inside the vent on his stomach. Once inside, Snake looked down and noticed his radar adjusted to the vent's schematics, allowing him to figure out where to go.

" I'm beginning to like you, new radar. " joked Snake as he continued crawling through the vents, eventually finding an exit. Snake crawled out of the vent and stood up to see the dark almost cybernetic advanced building, he took a knee then dialed Colonel Campbell on the codec,

"This is Solid Snake, I'm inside the building." informed Snake,

"Excellent work, Snake." Campbell replied,

"I'm inside too." chimed in Gustava,

"Me too, but there's something weird going on." Holly said,

"What is it?" asked Campbell,

"I was making my way inside through the tower and I saw a group of dead soldiers but they weren't from Zanzibar. They had pitch black uniforms and a logo that had an apple being strangled by a snake." She explained.

"Wait, an apple and a snake?" joined in Kasler,

"Yeah, you know it?" asked Holly,

"Yep, that's the Paradise Lost Mercenaries. They're a mercenary group led by a woman named Lilith." Kasler explained,

"Lilith…like Adam's first wife in the Bible." commented Snake,

"Ah, you went to Sunday School, Snake?" asked Kasler,

"No, I knew a buddy back in the Gulf who we called Preacher because he would do sermons on Sundays." Snake explained,

"So you pretty much went to Soldier Church?" jokingly asked Holly,

"Basically…" Snake replied,

"Anyways, the Paradise Lost Mercs have been in conflict with Zanzibar for a while, not sure why." Kasler continued,

"I believe I can answer that. The Paradise Lost Mercenaries have been hired by Russia and China to deal with the Zanzibar soldiers, I guess they've been struggling against them." explained Houseman,

"Right, where should I look for Dr Marv?" asked Snake,

"The transmitter says that Dr Marv is on the third floor of that building you're in. Dr Madnar and Dr Jacobsen seem to be somewhere in the jungle outside that building. " explained Gustava.

"Ok, Snake, get to the third floor and find Dr Marv. White and Heffner, make your way to the jungle and wait for Snake there." ordered Campbell,

"Alright, Snake out." Snake hung up and began to run to the right then turned the corner to walk towards the ladder. He climbed down and glanced at his radar to see where the soldiers were positioned before moving towards two stationed armored tanks. Snake glanced and noticed two soldiers walking nearby, the experienced operative crawled under the tanks and waited for the soldiers to walk by. Once they did, Snake crawled out and walked towards a ladder leading up to the upper level. He climbed on top then noticed two doors in front of him, he pressed the button on the side to open the doors before entering the room. The room was dimly lit with two wide computer consoles and a large monitor that took up most of the wall, in front were two soldiers. Snake then crouched and leaned his back against one of the consoles then began pondering his next move. Unexpectedly, the tune of the National Anthem began playing through the room, the soldiers stood in attention and began saluting. Finding it weird, Snake hopped over and lunged onto one of them then shot the other in the head before snapping the neck of the trapped soldier. Snake then stood up and looked on the screen, seeing a layout of Zanzibar Lands.

"Colonel, I'm standing in front of a monitor right now that has the map of Zanzibar Lands." Snake informed,

"Snake, you can connect your codec into the monitor. Pull out the dial knob and connect it into a monitor or the screen itself then our people here will do the rest." said Campbell. Snake did so and pulled the knob out, showing it attached to a wire then entering it into a monitor.

"Alright we're getting everything- hold on…" there was silence from Campbell,

"Jim, do you see this?" Campbell asked,

"By god…they have access to the world's nuclear codes!" exclaimed Houseman,

"What? You mean they can fire the nuclear weapons of every country?!" Miller yelled in,

"Yes! Snake, you need to find those codes! If any of those lunatics get their hands on those codes they can still activate them. I need to contact the Pentagon." Houseman said before leaving,

"Snake, focus on finding Marv first then we'll figure out where the codes are." Campbell said before hanging up. Snake disconnected his codec and then turned to see something shiny peeking out from the dead soldier's pocket. Snake grabbed it then saw it was a keycard with a number 1 engraved on it, he put it in his pocket and then looked at the map of Zanzibar Lands on his codec,

" Hmm, the elevator is not that far from here. I could take it to the third floor ." thought Snake. He checked his radar to see the position of the soldiers and then ran out the room. Snake made a left then made his way to the elevator undetected, he pressed on the button and waited for the elevator to arrive. Once the doors opened, Snake entered and pressed the button to the third floor. Once he arrived, Snake got out and turned the corner to see a door with a number 1 painted on it, Snake walked up to it then looked for the scanner to place the card in then entered what looked like an office, he walked up the hallway then went to another door that had a number 1 and opened to enter. In the center of this room was a weird device attached onto the ground, suddenly it began to glow and Snake quickly leaned against the door to see a light scan its radius before turning off once more. The experienced operative observed the machine as it did it once more to figure out its timing. He waited until it turned off once more before booking it and making a right into the hallway, he then stopped himself as he saw four strange machines placed in specific locations. He remembered something like this from the Outer Heaven Uprising and decided to light a cigarette to reveal infrared lights now turning on and off in a rhythmic manner. He quickly dialed Holly and Gustava,

"Guys be careful, there's infrared sensors in these buildings." informed Snake,

"Shit what do we do, Snake?" asked Holly,

"Do any of you have a lighter?" asked Snake,

"I do." Gustava replied,

"I don't." Holly answered disappointingly,

"Hmm Snake, according to this map you sent, you're close to a storeroom on that floor." Gustava said,

"How far am I from Marv?"

"He's on the opposite side of the floor, I'll mark it for you on the map but first, go to that storeroom and grab what you can find inside. After you find Marv, there's some storerooms down in the basement and the second floor so you can check those out before meeting us." suggested Gustava,

"I'll make sure to, Snake out." Snake hung up and observed the rhythm of the lasers before making his move, carefully walking and stopping as he followed their beat. Eventually, he made it to the end of the hall where the storeroom was, Snake began rummaging through the crates inside.

" Let's see three gas masks, three infrared goggles and a pair of binoculars. " thought Snake. He then pulled out a small bag so he could carry the stuff then began making his way back to the elevator. From there, Snake found another door and inserted his card in to enter, he quickly checked his radar to make sure he was going the right way and confirmed it then continued. Snake entered another office but quickly slid under a table once he saw a soldier patrolling the office. He crawled forward as the soldier was walking in the opposite direction, going under another table until he saw two doors, one with a number 2 and the other with a 1. Snake opened the level 1 door and entered a lab only to suddenly begin feeling like his lungs were being constricted. Snake noticed a red haze being released from the vents and put the pieces together on what was happening,

" Nerve gas…always fucking nerve gas… " he angrily thought, Snake quickly reached for the bag and grabbed one of the masks to put it on. Snake quickly ran through the hallway then turned the corner and saw a door with a scanner. The haze made it hard to see but he desperately reached for the card and pressed it against the scanner, unlocking the door and jumping inside. He took the mask off and was able to finally catch his breath,

" The hell…it felt like that nerve gas was cutting through the mask? What kind of shit do they have? " He thought to himself. Snake then glanced up to see a balding scientist with a mustache and round glasses, he recognized the man as he was none other than Dr Kio Marv. Snake smiled widely and got himself up,

"Dr Marv, I'm Solid Snake, I'm here to rescue you." He said to him, Marv turned to him and had a devilish grin and began madly laughing. Snake was completely caught off guard by the laughing, he quickly took his knife out and was reaching for his M1911.

"Foolish FOXHOUND…Dr Marv isn't here!" Marv spoke in a very echoey and robotic voice.

"Figures that FOXHOUND would use a cheap transmitter, you guys are really behind the times." He said as his figure began to emit static like a channel on a TV. Once the static cleared, Snake saw a man in highly advanced black and green light armor with a glowing ruby red visor on his helmet.

"I am the Painmaker, The Black Ninja. Welcome to Zanzibar Lands, Solid Snake, the land where you will die! I shall send you to a world of anguish beyond your imagination! Prepare yourself, FOXHOUND!"
