Boruto POV
*Bang, bang, bang*
"Wake up Konohamaru!" I yelled.
Looking around, I began to take in the Sarutobi compound that Konohamaru-sensei lives. It's alright but I don't know what to say about it. My attention went back to Konohamaru's room as I heard some shuffling and silent curses.
Opening the door, Konohamaru yawned out "What do you want Boruto, it's late outside"
"I need your help with something" I mumbled.
I chuckled to myself as I could see Konohamaru-sensei standing still, frozen in surprise. But he quickly regained his composure and asked.
"Wow, you ask for help. It's unheard of. But what do you want that your big bro can help you with?"
"I uh, need help with a Jutsu that only you and my dad know, it's the Rasengan," I said.
"The Rasengan, wow. Do you want to surpass your dad that much? Or even better do you want to use it as a secret weapon for the Chunin Exams!" Konohamaru yelled.
"Yes to both of them, now tell me what to do so I can get this over with" I urged. Konohamaru sighed and put his arm out in front of me.
"You're so impatient. Let me get ready then we'll train" instructed Konohamaru.
"Ok but hurry up," I said.
Somewhere in the forest
"Alright, this should be a good place to train" Konohamaru stated.
Looking around, I began to take in my surroundings. All around me were trees and brushes. A few boulders and ditches in the ground. All in all, it was ok, it's not much. Just like the Nara forest when I tested my powers but more cramped due to the trees. "Ok, there are three steps into mastering the Rasengan" Konohamaru stated.
I nodded in understanding, taking in his words. Suddenly Konohamaru raised his hand, palm outward, and a blue orb of chakra appeared. I could look in awe and wonder about the Jutsu as I could sense that it requires a lot of chakra to even summon one. But the Rasengan suddenly disappeared and was now replaced with a... water balloon.
'What?' I thought to myself in confusion. Looking at Konohamaru, I realized that he had a smug look on his face.
His face turned serious as he strictly stated "Boruto. It took the Hokage 3 years to master the Rasengan. It took your dad a week to master it as well. And now I wonder how long it will take for you to master this Jutsu as well?"
Eying Konohamaru, I grabbed the balloon and began to examine its shape and coloring before looking up again and asking "So how do I do this?"
"Well, Boruto what you need to do is spin your chakra until the balloon pops," Konohamaru explained.
Looking back at the balloon, I decided to mess with big bro and added some lighting chakra to the balloon and as a result, popping it.
"Look, I did it!" I yelled in happiness.
A moment later I was smacked by the head.
"No, you did not. Take it seriously Boruto." Konohamaru scolded.
Meanwhile, I was rubbing my head and was focusing on keeping my Henge activated. Taking a few deep breaths, I regained my composure and held out my hand again. Again, Konohamaru gave me a water balloon and this time kept a watchful eye this time.
*sigh*
'Ok, I can do this.' I encouraged myself as I began to focus my chakra on the balloon and began to spin it all over the balloon. After a few more minutes of doing this, I could tell that nothing was happening and decided to stop.
"Whew, this is a lot harder than I thought," I mumbled.
"Yes it is, now let's keep this up all day," Konohamaru exclaimed.
'This is going to be a long day, huh.' I thought to myself.
Time skip, at the Uzumaki Household
After doing a day's worth of chakra training, it was safe to say that I was pretty tired. And now all that I have planned now is to go to my room and get some shut-eye. I couldn't wait, but as I opened the front door I was in front of my mom.
"Ah, there you are Boruto, just in time" she stated.
"Just in time?" I questioned.
"Yes. I have to go to my sisters and I need you to take care of Himawari tonight," she explained.
I could only nod as she walked past me and closed the door. After making sure that she was gone as well as anybody nearby, I deactivated my Henge and headed to the kitchen. And sure enough, there was Himawari, drawing on the dining table. Looking up from the drawing, she set her eyes on me and a smile emerged from her face.
"Onii-chan, you're back!" Himawari shouted.
She pushed herself from the table and ran towards me, giving me a crushing hug.
"Hey there Hima," I responded while hugging her back.
I then tried to gently push her away, but she clenched on my blue jacket and giggled at my failed escape. I shrugged and finally embraced her, again. This time it was her that let go first. Surprised by this, I made a fake hurt expression and she giggled in response.
"Well since we're here with the house for ourselves. Do you want to make a cake to make up for the birthday cake dad messed up?" I asked.
"Yes, I want to make a cake," Himawari responded as she was jumping up and down with joy.
"Great," I said as I walked over to the kitchen pantry and frowned as I could find nothing for cake. But at least there were some ingredients that I could make pancakes instead of a regular cake.
Pulling out the ingredients, I called to Himawari "It may not be cake, but I can make you some pancakes to make up for it."
"It's alright as long as I can make it with you" Himawari responded.
I smiled as I got out a huge bowl and poured all the contents into it and stirred. I seemed to do something wrong as Himawari was frowning at me. I stopped what I was doing and looked at her, questioning what I was doing wrong.
"Onii-chan, you're not to stir fast. You're supposed to stir slow and steady with some power behind each stir." she corrected.
I let out a nod of understanding and began to follow what Himawari corrected me about which forced a smile of approval from her. While I was stirring the content together, something came to mind as I was starring the contents going round and round.
'Wait. Could it be?' I thought to myself as I threw the whisk to the side. I noticed my sister starring at me, but I ignored her as I put my hand in front of me. Forcing my chakra into my hands and began to spin it like how I was doing to the pancake contents. A few seconds later, the contents began to move.
My sister was watching in awe while I was celebrating on the inside. And a couple of minutes later the pancakes were ready. Sadly, Himawari stated that it was not as good as mom's which is understandable. But after eating, mostly Himawari eating, she headed to her room and slept while I was left thinking about what to do with Himawari regarding an actual birthday cake.
'Maybe I and the gang at Grillby's could do something for her' I thought as I left the room, teleporting to Grillby's.
The Next Day
"Come on" I groaned as the water balloon was shaking violently between my hands.
After returning to the forest where I and Konohamaru trained, I was given another balloon and was tasked to pop it with my chakra. And after spending half of the day struggling on the exercise I finally began to get some results. And now, here I am forcing as much chakra I can and the balloon is so close to bursting. With one last burst of chakra left, I had forced it to the spinning motion which did the trick as the balloon exploded with water all over the place.
"Yes, I did it!" I shouted.
"Glad that you did, now to step two." Konohamaru continued and this time holding a rubber ball.
"Oh come on," I mumbled as Konohamaru chuckled at my reaction.
And with that, I spent the majority of the day trying to burst the rubber ball. It was way harder than the water balloon as the ball was tougher. So I spent at least three days practicing with my chakra control and trying to complete step two. All the while, I would sense someone watching me. Someone I knew well, and this 'someone' was checking on what I was doing. And it was time to know what they want, as I was currently walking by myself.
*rustle*
Looking to my left, a smile crept its way to my lips as standing behind me was Sarada.
"Hello, my stalker" I taunted. My smile widened as I saw her stood still before regaining her composure and stomped towards me. I raised my hands in defeat but was too late as Sarada grabbed my shirt again.
"Ok, what are you doing with Konohamaru-sensei" she barked.
"Training for a jutsu" I responded.
"Oh really, you're going to give it up that easily?" she questioned.
"Yup" I responded again.
"But why? I have never seen you work this hard for something. You always look tired each day. Which means that it must be powerful." she stated in the end.
"Look it is powerful, I'll give you that. But why are you interested in this?" I questioned this time.
Eyeing me, she carefully released me from her grasp. She took a step back and began to dust herself off and finally answered.
"Well... I just don't want to be left behind. I too have been training hard. And with your jutsu, I'm feeling self-conscious about my chances at the chunin exams."
I looked at her, shockingly, she has never been doubtful about herself. I didn't know what to do. So I did the only thing I could and hugged her. I could hear her gasp of shock and a hug in return.
Letting go, which hurts for some reason, I faced her and began to speak. "Look, you are not weak. You are strong, I think you can do anything. Just look at me. I am struggling to perfect this jutsu." I pointed out.
"But you seem so confident, it's unusual," she stated.
"I'm just happy that I'm learning a new jutsu," I explained.
Looking ahead on the road I began to make my way to my way. I turned around to her and asked, "Would you like to walk with me."
She nodded and began to walk next to me.
Sarada's POV
It was strange for Boruto to ask me to walk with him. But it was better than doing nothing. And I get to spend time with him some more.
'Wait what was I thinking just now' I thought to myself.
I eventually shook it off and began to observe Boruto. His skin had dirt and scratches all over but I think he never noticed. And his clothes, I never understand why he wears them especially those pink slippers. I guess it comforting for him, but I don't see anything useful. And then his face, having those two whisker marks he inherited from Lord Hokage. His blond hair despite being covered by dirt. And his eyes, always the same sky-color. The same eyes I could respect, fear and love.
'No wait, what am I thinking right now. You can't possibly like a baka much like Boruto right?' I asked myself.
Looking at Boruto again, I could feel myself brighten up by being near him. He comforts me when I need it most, like recently. And it's a blast to be around his stupid misadventures. Raising my hand to my chest, I could feel my heart nearly bursting when I'm near him.
I let out a sigh as I accepted to myself 'I guess there's nothing I could do about it now. Boruto you're a good person I hope you know that.'
I quickly moved to Boruto's side as he suddenly swayed and began to fall. I quickly grabbed his chest and lifted him until he was standing straight, next to my shoulder.
"Boruto are you alright!" I shouted out my worries.
"Yeah, that training session took out more than I could handle" he explained.
"Well we need to get you home now," I said as I began to help Boruto walk to his house.
As we were walking, Boruto suddenly leaned his head on my shoulder. I felt my breath hitch from another one of his sudden acts.
"Are you ok, Boruto?" I asked.
Boruto's POV
"Are you ok, Boruto?" she asked after I leaned on to her.
"Yeah. I am now." I responded, leaning in some more.
During our walk, I could feel dizzy and my legs began to give out. And I should give my thanks to Sarada as she stopped my fall. After setting me straight and continuing our walk as she was holding me to keep me steady. And after a while, I wanted to get closer to her so I did the only thing I could think of and lean into her.
I was glad that she didn't push me off and decided to let me be. As we were walking I also felt Sarada lean in her head onto mine. I was going to question her but she lifted her head again. Looking at her I could see her face turning red. She looked at me and turned away.
I let a smirk and looked ahead only to see the gates of my house. Gently pushing Sarada off, I walked to the gates. Turning around I gave her a wave of goodbye before turning back and entering my home.
I greeted my mom and sister before walking to my room. Laying on my bed I began to think about my Rasengan training. Especially on how close I am to completing step two.
'Maybe I could complete step two tomorrow.' I thought to myself before sleeping.
The next day
"Come on" I groaned.
In between my hands was the rubber ball and my task was to pop it with my chakra. And I am so close as the ball was expanding. Letting out everything I have a huge burst of wind suddenly knocked me over and I was on my back.
Looking at my hands I couldn't find any trace of the rubber ball. Only pieces of rubber on my hands and the ground. I didn't know what to feel. I should feel happy yet I'm at a loss for words. The sun hitting my face was now replaced by Konohamaru and he smirking. I smirked back and held out my hand and in response, he took it and hoisted me on my feet.
"Great job, Boruto!" Konohamaru said.
I nodded a 'thank you' in return and walked around for a bit trying to get all the air in my lungs. 'As if I have lungs in the first place' I thought to myself. Finally catching my breath I returned to Konohamaru and waited for him to explain the last step of mastering the Rasengan.
I gave him a nod and he started to explain, "The last step is that you have nothing, you will apply all that you learned and make a Rasengan. Again, you will have nothing. You will make it out of thin air."
I looked at him with my eyes wide from what he told me. 'I have to do this without anything.' I thought to myself.
With nothing to do I put my hands together and tried to form a Rasengan. At first, I could see the wind form circles and I thought that I was going to do it. But nothing happened as the wind kept going in circles. I guess that I have to add more. 'This is going to take a while I thought to myself.
And throughout the day I practiced making the Rasengan and I almost did. But I had to finish as the day was almost over and now here I am again.
Looking up I could see Konohamaru eyeing me as I was continuing my training. I looked back and attempted to form a Rasengan. But something was different this time. In the middle of my hands, a tiny blue ball of chakra was beginning to form.
I looked up at Konohamaru in shock and his face was in awe as the blue ball of chakra was slowly getting bigger. It seemed to reach its max size as it didn't grow and my chakra was running low. Holding the blue chakra in my hands, I walked towards Konohamaru and now gave him a smirk.
He regained his composure and talked once more "Congrats, Boruto. It seemed that you've made the Rasengan and in a week. You should be proud, I know your dad will be."
"Yeah, I guess so," I said as my Rasengan disappeared.
"Well I'm going home now, see ya," I yelled out as I was running to where my house was.
As I was running I began to wonder what Sasuke will think of my Rasengan. Will that mean he'll take me as a student or not. 'So many things could happen I don't know what' I thought to myself but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
The Next Day
"Sasuke!" I yelled out.
Running towards the cloaked person. I could see Sasuke turn around with a stoic look on his face. 'Guess he was waiting for me then.' I thought to myself. I finally stopped in front of Sasuke and began to tell him my results from my training.
"Sasuke, I did it. I finally mastered the Rasengan!" I yelled.
"Is that so. Show me," he commanded.
I gave him a nod and put my hands together. Remembering the steps and the last time I formed a Rasengan, I began to force my chakra out of my palms and began to make it swirl. After a while, a Rasengan began to form and it was growing bigger. It stopped again to its max size and hovered in my hands. I looked up at Sasuke with a smile and waited for his opinion on it.
Sasuke leaned down and began to inspect the Rasengan. He made a few hums of either approval or not but I remained still. He leaned back again, still stoic as ever, and criticized the Rasengan.
"It's awfully small to even call it a Rasengan. But it still is a Rasengan none less, congratulations Boruto. You're officially my student." Sasuke stated.
"Yes, I did it!" I yelled out before throwing the Rasengan. We both followed the direction the Rasengan was going. Sasuke looked with interest to see what happens while I look on with worry hoping not to damage something. Suddenly few lightning sparks emerged from the Rasengan causing the Rasengan to disappear.
I frowned until a target that was in front of the Rasengan crack and bend as if something hit it. It came to me and Sasuke that the Rasengan somehow turned invisible and still damaged the target, which was a boulder.
"Ok what was that?" said a voice I knew too well.
Turning to the source I could see Sarada looking on in confusion. I could understand what she was thinking, I too don't know what just happened.
"A vanishing Rasengan" Sasuke mumbled.
We both looked at him for an explanation.
"Boruto is your chakra element Lightning?" he asked.
I gave him a nod, and he hummed.
"You added lightning chakra to your Rasengan, causing it to vanish. Making it a 'Vanishing Rasengan'." he finished explaining.
We both had an awestruck look on our faces. We turned to look at each other and noticed we were using the same facial expression right now. We giggled at our expressions and looked back at Sasuke, but something was different. He was looking at us mostly me with a calculating look before shrugging his shoulders and turned around walking away.
"Well, come on Boruto let's go," Sarada exclaimed as she took my hand and dragged me away. I blushed but hid it.
'It's going to be a long day.' I thought to myself.
A few days later
"Bye Mom, Hima!" I yelled out as I left the house.
"Good luck." I heard them as I jumped to the roofs.
After a few minutes of jumping around, I finally landed at where Sarada and Mitsuki were meeting up. And I was right as I landed in front of my teammates. We greeted each other, which consisted of me more to Sarada.
Soon we headed to the gates where the chunin exams would be. And we finally made it to the village gates. Looking around I could see multiple genins from different villages, hoping to promote to chunin at the end of the exams. Looking around we found our classmates from the academy.
As we walked towards our group, I ignored the fact that many eyes were on me.
Omake: A make-up day.
Looking out my window I could see the stars of the night, shining brightly across the sky. Looking at my clock I could see that it's midnight. Which was perfect for what I'm about to do. 'If mom would know about this, it'll be the end of me' I thought to myself as I left my room and headed to Himawari's room.
Opening her door, I could see my little sister sleeping. She was gripping her pink panda right close to her. I chuckled as I walked over to her and gently shook her.
Her eyes opened slightly and began to look around. When her eyes landed on me she leaned up and rubbed her eyes.
"*yawn* What is it Onii-chan" she mumbled.
"I need you to get dressed, I'm taking you somewhere for something special," I said.
She nodded and quickly got dressed in her yellow jacket and black leggings. I touched her and thought to myself 'I hope this works.'. I then teleported myself to a road path that I usually take to Grillby's. Looking to my left I could see Himawari next to me. But she looked sick for a moment but returned to normal and was wide awake now.
"Wow what was that?" she asked me.
"I don't know," I responded.
She frowned at me until she looked around the area. I could tell she was confused and a little scared.
"Boruto where are we?" she asked.
"We're on a path. I want you to follow it you'll find a place called Grillby's that's where I'll be waiting. I believe in you." I said to her.
I teleported in front so she couldn't see me and I could see her calm herself down and walk forward on the path. 'Alright, you got this Himawari. I'll keep an eye out for you.' I promised myself.
At Grillby's
I sat with Doggo and was waiting for Himawari to arrive. I last saw her a few paces near the sight of Grillby's. 'I hope she didn't get lost' I thought to myself which also made me get up until a paw stopped me.
"Don't I hear someone coming?" Doggo explained.
And sure enough, the entrance door opened and Himawari warily walked in. I stood up again and walked towards her. She hugged me and tried to poke me but I stopped her and patted her back.
"Why'd you do that?" she asked.
"I wanted it to be a surprise," I responded.
"Yeah, a surprise. Who is she!" Lesser Dog yelled.
Slowly all the dog people rose but I quickly got in front of Himawari.
"Everyone, calm down. Guy's meet my little sister Himawari. Himawari these are my friends." I said to each of them.
I let out a sigh of relief as I saw them slowly back away from Himawari other than Dogaressa. She stalked towards Himawari. I saw this and got ready for anything. I sighed in relief as I saw that Dogaressa began to sniff on Himawari.
Dogaressa then backed off and began to gush over how cute Himawari was. She looked at me confused which made me shrug in response. She couldn't do anything else as she was hugged by Dogaressa.
Dogaressa looked at me and asked, "So why did you bring your sister here?"
I let out a sigh and began to tell them what happened to her birthday and how our father didn't arrive and instead let a shadow clone celebrate her birthday. They all had bleak expressions on their faces.
Lessening her hug on Himawari, Dogaressa said, "Poor you. Well, worry not. We'll make it up to you as we did for your brother."
She turned around and yelled to the rest of the group, "You know the drill! Let's steal a cake!" before barging out the front door.
Not before Dogamy entered, panting and holding his knee. His gaze immediately focused on Himawari.
"Finally, I've caught up with you human!" he shouted.
"Shut up!" Dogaressa and I yelled.
Dogaressa then grabbed Dogamy by the ear and rushed out as well as the group, leaving me, Himawari, and Grillby himself. I ushered Himawari to sit on a booth while I sat in my usual spot. Once I sat down, I began to think about myself and the others.
"Something on your mind?" I heard Grillby ask.
"Yeah," I answered.
"What's it about?" he questioned.
"It's about where you came from. I find that you guys coming from the moon is a bit farfetched if you think about it." I explained to Grillby.
"What can I say, we did come from the moon," Grillby stated.
"Yeah, but how or where did you live on the moon?" I asked which was probably the 'big' question of this conversation.
Grillby moved his shoulders, which looked liked a sigh and began to explain, "We did live on the moon. We were part of a society, a kingdom to be exact, that resided in the underground. We were under the protection of Toneri Otsutsuki and another. Toneri was a great protector but he foresaw something we couldn't comprehend. He tried stopping it any way he can. He tried marrying a Hyuga woman but that failed. He desperately searched for a key to stop this prophecy. But 'they' came and destroyed everything, even the underground, and from our own eyes, we saw Toneri frozen in an ice prison before sending us here. And the other one, we don't know what became of him. All we did then was build a place where we live which is this very place and since then started a business."
With all that information revealed, I didn't know what to think now. They lived up there and now lost everything and are stuck here.
"I'm sorry," I said.
"Don't worry, us monsters are good on surviving," Grillby responded.
"Monsters?" I asked.
"Yeah, monsters like you and me," he explained.
I don't know why but the term 'monster' fitted well with me even though it's a negative term to be called but other than that it fits well with me, but my sister thinks otherwise.
"My brother is not a monster!" Himawari yelled.
"Calm down, Hima." I cautioned, not wanting a pointless fight or argument to break out.
"Why not, we were born and raised and known as monsters. For us, it's not offensive, plus we take pride in what we're called. And Boruto looks and is one of us." Grillby retorted.
"Please, Himawari. I think it fits me don't you think" I said, calming her down and giving a reassuring smile.
She backed down a bit but had a frown, and then returned to her booth. I went up to her and hugged her, calming her by saying, "It's alright Hima, for now, let's focus on your party."
That got a reluctant smile from her but it changed when the group returned and with a chocolate cake. To say that Himawari enjoyed the cake was an understatement. After that Himawari began to talk with the group and got to know each other. It was fun, and probably the latest that Himawari ever stayed up.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed the chapter.
I wonder how's your summer going, mine is kind of good and trash. Just recently got two/three ingrown toenails removed, so I'm left dealing with that. But just to let you know I am planning on rewriting the first few chapters since I was inexperienced with writing back then and will be focused on that along with my other stories. So what I'm saying is that you'll probably be waiting for a bit for the next chapter (but if you want, you can check out my other stories).
Peace.
