9. You are one of them

Dr James left as soon as he was told to and Lillie rose from the bed and looked at Alex once again. She stood to her feet so she wouldn't look too small before him which she failed miserably.

"Mr Ragnar!" she called to get his attention.

"Yes, little?" he answered. Lillie winced a little when she heard him calling her 'Little' for the third time since she woke. She didn't like it one bit. She wanted to rebut him but she then chose to ignore him they won't be acquainted after now so there was no need for a rebuttal.

"I would like to thank you for saving me and taking care of my medical expenses, so thank you for that," she said after making sure that she had his attention. She paused to hear what he had to say but the man kept mute and said nothing intently looking at her. "Looking at you, I want to believe what Cecile said that I don't have to pay back the money that you spent on me so I won't try paying back as that would be an insult to your person."

Lillie waited again fit him to say something to her but he did not she sighed and spoke again. "Since everything is done here and I am perfectly fine, I will find my way home you won't have to worry about me anymore and I won't feel like I am a burden to anyone." She started walking and heading for the door not waiting for him to speak and respond to her because she was not expecting him to do so.

"Aren't you forgetting something?"

Lillie heard his deep voice from behind her and halted her steps. After a moment of thinking trying to remember what she might have forgotten but nothing came into her mind she turned around to face him, folded her arms across her chest and raised a brow in askance.

Alex smiled inwardly. Did she think it will be that easy for her to walk away from him? He will not let her go even if it meant that he had to follow her around himself he would not mind as long as it keeps her beside him.

He walked up to her and stood two steps away from her. He raised his hand and tucked back the strands of her hair that were falling on her face in the place behind her ear. "You are still in a hospital gown, won't you change that first?"

Lillie's face turned red in embarrassment. Realising her mistake, she took a step back and clears her throat and looked round the room but they were nowhere to be seen and even if they were, they would have been ruined by now.

"This will do just fine. I can't find my clothes anywhere so I will go in this. Lillie said with a half smile.

Alex shook his head at her statement and closed the distance between them and said, "You don't need to wear this, I had Cecile buy some clothes for you so go in, change your clothes and come let's eat before leaving."

Lillie nodded her head without realising it. Before she knew what she had done it was too late, she had already agreed to it. She realised that being close to him was bad for her. It was not helping her stay sane, his closeness was making her feel differently. His warm and fresh minty breath was brushing against her tender skin kicking sense away from her.

Lillie went into the washroom and changed into a dress and came out shortly after. She came out and found that the food had already been set on the table with Alex sitting beside it while going through his phone.

Alex raised his head when he felt her near him, he didn't bother using her scent to know that she was there because the room was already filled with her scent. The moment he saw her, everything else faded into the background.

She looked breathtaking in the white knee-length floral dress that she wore. It contrasted beautifully with her long dark hair which she allowed to fall freely over her shoulders and back reaching her waist. She looked like a piece of art. A painting he would never grow tired of.

Lillie felt awkward under his gaze, she decided to distract him a little to lessen the intensity of his gaze. "Mr Ragnar?" She called.

Alex heard her and a small frown appeared on his face not happy that she took away his moment of bliss from him. Seeing that he stopped fantasizing about her, she felt relieved even though he was still looking at her dreamily.

"I am not hungry, Mr Ragnar, you can go ahead with me and enjoy your meal, I will take my leave," she said and turned to leave.

"I am not hungry either, I will drop you off," Alex said raising from his seat and started walking to reach her.

"Weren't you the one who said you will eat before going?" She asked with a hand resting on her hip.

"No. I said 'We', I never said I ill eat before leaving. Since you are not hungry, I won't force you so let's go I will drop you off." he said firmly leaving no room for argument.

"Mr Ragnar you don't have to... "

"But I want to. " Alex said cutting her words short.

Lillie looked at him all bewildered. What was his aim to do all this? He may have helped her and saved her but he was the enemy. Should she follow him just because he said so? No. Never will that happen. She tilted her head a little upward and looked him in the eyes and said in a cold tone. The kind that no one will expect from a person as fragile looking as her.

"Mr Ragnar, I don't know why you are doing all this, but note this, 'You are one of them and therefore my enemy, don't you dare think that you have any right whatsoever to tell me what to do. I am standing because you saved me so I won't hold any grudges against you but try not to overstep it."

Her words were like sharp little arrows piercing his heart mercilessly. How could she compare him to them? To those low lives who were nothing before his eyes. But could he blame her? No. He could never blame her, not after knowing all that she had gone through at their hands.

He knew that he had a long way to go to get her to trust him but this... This was just telling him how long that way was. With her like this, how will she react when she finds out that he is the Lycan king?
