Chapter 28_How could you

Hearing the senior mentioned that the other schools might know about how the virus got to the school was unbelievable.

"You must be mistaken, the other schools cannot do that. I mean why would they? For a mere competition?" I blurted out. It was unbelievable what she said. That would be way too much for other institutions with students like ours, not just students. There were also workers, teachers and the likes in the school. Why would they infect a student in other to spread the virus to the whole school?

All for what, for a mere competition.

"I think Medusa is right, it is almost impossible to reckon that the other magical colleges can be so horrible. " Mia supported my motion.

I turned my head to see if it was truly Mia who had just talked. Mia actually, supported me? She thought what I said was right?

"Medusa stop looking at me with that gross face" I heard her voice say and I coughed lightly before sucking my mouth at her which made her shake her head in reciprocation.

For the first time since we entered the room, the senior finally turned her face to us. I thought she looked familiar.

"I see you're newbies so you do not understand how important the competition is. It is the competition that determines which institution the government will give the most attention to. All the amenities you're enjoying here is as a result of the hard work of the school in maintaining our number one best reputation. Why do you think we go on missions?" she asked us.

I had no response to that, she might actually think my answer was incorrect so l kept mute. I was good at not answering questions, my brain never fails to refuse to process such ambiguous information.

I was expecting Mia to save the day but it was Mackenzie who talked.

"Because the school is training you on how to be superheroes" she shrugged.

Whoa...I did not know she was smart.

"No" the senior said bluntly.

Oh, she got it wrong. Maybe she's not as smart.

We go on missions as a form of payment to the government. They are investing in us and are expecting us to go on missions and succeed. For every mission, we receive funds, supplies, and cooperation from the government. Remember we are not paying to be here and the dean and teachers do not work. So, where do you think all this came from?" she threw her hands up in the air.

"I thought it was all magic" Mia responded.

The senior gave a short mocking laugh her tiny voice echoing in our ears "What magic? Have you not done the math? We're not witches or wizards. We are mutants, we have abilities, not magic. Fine, some of us have abilities similar to magic, like the way we were wiped from existence in the other dimension. It is the work of a man we students do not know but we heard it was one of his many abilities, it flows in his family, He inherited it. Some kids have powers that can seem magical too though" she shrugged.

"Then why was the school named "All supernatural's magical college ?" I asked.

" It is all supernatural's college dummy" Mia said to me.

"What?" I protested, I hated that she called me a dummy. I am Medusa, the beauty and one of the most popular girls in my high school. No one calls me a dummy.

"That was what I was told" I defended myself.

" It is All Supernaturals Magical College. Students just like to remove the magical. Yes, at At the end of the day is it not magic to see people possess powers out of the ordinary?" the senior chipped in.

Why was she being so nice and patient in explaining things to us? It was rare to see a senior speak to us nicely and even answer our numerous questions patiently. I thought she looked familiar though, I was still wondering where I saw her.

I will look more closely when she finally turn her face to us again. She was back to staring out the window.

"Then what about the dining area? We just write out what we wanted to eat and the meals will get served to us" Mackenzie said. Good, if it wasn't magic then what would that be? I was in wonder of that too.

"Gosh, are you guys this less informed?" The senior sighed in frustration.

What was she expecting? We've only spent but a few weeks in the school. The seniors can be so self-centered and here I was thinking she was different. Was it that easy for her to understand the whole

system the first time she arrived at the school?

"That is just conver charta. It is a communication paper that passes on the information scribbled on it to the required destination. Anybody can use the conver charta only that it is only allowed in the school dining area and to be used for its specified purpose. Other schools have it too" she explained.

"Oh" we all nodded.

She was like a teacher nurturing us into enlightenment. That was how cool the seniors were.

"I still do not see any reason why the other schools would jeopardize the lives of others. The schools are practically life savers. There would have been lots of confused and devastated boys and girls have they not come to our aid." Mia queried.

"Do not give the school so much of your trust. At the end of the day, the school is just made up of people fighting their way to survival. Also, the competition will increase the ranks of the teachers and dean among other deans in the mystic coalition. It is made up of different deans and teachers fighting their way to the top, to be recognized widely as a powerful figure. Do not underestimate the desperation of the schools to win the competition." she tutored us.

"Still, I refuse to believe this great school and other great magical schools can be capable of being bad" I was actually thinking that in my mind. I never knew I had said it out loud until she turned to me, her grim eyes met mine.

"I know what I saw." she mumbled.

She knew what she saw? What does she mean by that.

My brain started ringing trying to figure out where I had seen her.

And then..

It came to me, like a pile of fireworks rushing through the sky, it came to me.

She was top student Eria, the top student who went with the others on the mission! The mission which they got back from where one of them collapsed that caused all the disturbances and imbalance in the school right now.

Isn't she supposed to be infected? What was she doing talking to us in the same room? Was that why she was being so nice and wiling to answer our questions?

"You." my voice broke as I shook my head in disbelief.

The others turned to me including the senior.

"You....Are top..student Eria?" I stammered.

"What? Mia yelled " I knew she looked familiar she almost screamed.

Mackenzie who doesn't usually bother about the seniors or knowing the top students like we were informed seemed to be lost. "Guys don't start, don't tell me you are going to rant and go crazy cause you've finally seen a top student?" she chastised us.

Oh, ignorance was such a great illness. If only Mackenzie knew the amount of trouble we were in

"Mackenzie no, this is no time to be excited about seeing a senior" Mia adjusted her glasses to sit well on the ridge of her nose. Something she likes doing. She stepped back and then remove her sweater.

She stretched the fabric and used it like a nose mask to cover her nose.

I also stepped back like she did and pushed Mackenzie back too. Thank God I was wearing a sweatshirt with a light top under.

Unlike Mia who wears sweaters above her clothes almost every day, Mackenzie and I choose to dress more attractive and confident athough we both have different sense of fashion, our dressing style was still fashionable contrary to Mia who dresses out of vogue every day.

I removed my sweatshirt and also tied it around my nose. I thought it was too late because if she was infected, we have spoken to her far too long and we might already be infected but I covered my nose anyway.

| heard the virus can be violent at times and attacks in the air.

"I am Eira but it is not what you guys are thinking" Senior Eira said and made to extend her hand while taking a step forward.

"Stay back!" I shouted. I and Mia took some steps backward in retaliation to the senior's approaching step.

"Medusa!" Mackenzie scolded, she still does not know.

" Mackenzie, she is senior Eira of the fifth year. One of the seniors that went on the mission. The top student amongst them to be precise, look closely" Mia enlightened her.

Mackenzie dimmed her eyes "Is that true ?" she asked the senior.

"It is but.." she tried to say but Mackenzie hushed her.

"How could you?" she fired with gritted teeth.
