CHAPTER 8: TWIN GRIFFINS

Noctis and Faye were walking out of the town heading towards the forest to the west where the supposed Griffins would be.

While they were walking Noctis decided to ask "Faye I'm surprised you did not head back to your elf village. Wasn't the goblin den close by?"

Faye nodded "It was but we took care of the problem. There are some things I still need to do in town anyways."

Noctis gave her a side glance "Like the Griffins?"

Faye nodded "Like the Griffins yes."

Noctis and Faye eventually made it to the forest and started to walk through it. While they were walking they noticed a couple bunnies on the way. Noctis looked over and saw Faye was staring at the bunnies.

Noctis smirked "You like bunnies?"

Faye was still blanking out staring at them. Noctis coughed to get her attention. Faye snapped out of it "What sorry."

Noctis started to chuckle. Faye pouted at his reaction as she started to march forward continuing the trek into the forest. However Faye was not looking at where she was heading and when she took her next step there was nothing there. She looked down as she started to fall into a ravine.

Right when she started to fall however she was suddenly stopped. She looked up and saw that Noctis was holding her up by the hood. He lifted her up and flipped her over in front of him. His hands were on her shoulders.

Noctis smiled under his mask "You okay?"

Faye was staring into his eyes through his mask "Yeah I am."

There was a brief silence between the two until Faye said "Noctis you can let go now."

Noctis quickly let go and scratched the back of his head "Sorry."

Faye smiled "Don't be."

Noctis then watched as Faye started to walk her way around the ravine. After a couple steps he started to follow her again. They kept making their way through the forest and they could tell that the sun started to set a bit.

Faye stopped "We should set up camp here."

Noctis shook his head "No we should continue. Griffins can be easily taken care of at night. This forest is relatively tame as well. We won't have to worry about anything at night except for maybe some stray goblins."

At the mention of Goblins Noctis could see a hateful glint in Faye's eyes. Noctis patted her head "Don't worry it's unlikely. Follow me."

She started to follow Noctis who started to lead their way through the forest. After another couple hours. He stopped.

Faye went up by him "Why did you stop Noctis?"

Noctis pointed to some feathers on the ground around them. "There are some griffin feathers here. They are at least nearby this area a lot. We could be close to their nest."

Faye nodded "Let me start scouting now. I'm better at tracking them then you are."

Noctis smirked "But you are not as quiet as me."

Faye shrugged "True but we are lucky we got this far because of you. At least I will be able to pinpoint where they are. Sneaking does not do much good when we do not know where the target is."

Noctis sighed "Alright alright I get it. Please lead the way."

Faye smiled "Gladly."

Faye picked up the feathers and tossed it in the air a bit to see how it swayed. Another thing Faye was skilled in besides her bow an arrow was wind magic. That's part of her scouting prowess. She would use the wind and imbue her mana in the air to notice changes in the wind. This also gave her the ability to detect when the wind was forcibly moved. For instance if there were two big griffins laying down some where.

Faye started to move forward and gestured for Noctis to follow her. They both started to make their way up a hill in the forest. A little longer passed and it was now dark. When they started to reach the peak of the hill Noctis grabbed Faye and held her to the ground.

Faye was shocked "Noctis what are yo....."

Noctis quickly covered her mouth and gestured for her to stay quiet. Faye nodded and stayed quiet. He slowly moved up while he was still over her. He then stopped and looked over the peak of the hill. There were two griffins and he immediately recognized they were both male.

He was able to notice right away because over the weeks he has been here he bought a bestiary. This bestiary gave him details on all the monsters ever recorded in this world. Since he was able to see so well in the dark he could easily identify the two griffins as male.

However what he did not currently know was that Faye was in a predicament.

Faye first person POV

'Here I am under Noctis. I thought everything was going fine but as soon as I reach the peak of the hill I get shoved down by Noctis and then when I try to speak he covers my mouth. I know he must have a reason but he could at least have been more gentle.' I thought while he motioned for me to be quiet.

I nodded my head in understanding 'I already knew he had a reason.'

I looked up an I could see him slowly crawling up over me. I then look straight ahead an I was directly looking at his lower stomach. His leather armor did not go that far down and he was wearing some kind of skin tight clothing. I could easily make out his muscles.

I noticed my eyes start to linger further down an I immediately refocused looking back up at his chest. I felt my ears and face get hot. 'What am I doing? Focus Faye we are on a mission. You can not get distracted. I am a highly trained eleven warrior. I need to focus.'

Noctis made his way back down and his face was now over Faye's. "There are two male griffins up at the peak. We are lucky that there are no females."

Noctis looked at Faye and saw that her ears and cheeks were a little flushed. He brushed it off however as they were about to be in battle.

Faye nodded "How do you know they are male and why is it good that there is no female griffin."

Noctis looked back up and saw that the griffins were still sleeping. "We can talk about that later. Right now we should kill them while they are still asleep."

Faye have an understanding nod "So what do we do?"

Noctis smirked under his mask "So here's the plan."
