Mate and Deception: Gifted Werewolf Book 3

What is real? What is false? What is truth? What is lie? These are the questions Whisper asks herself since she was put into an insane asylum at the age of nine. How do I save her? How do I free her? How do I get her to trust me? How did she get here? These are the questions Zane asks himself when he finds his shy mate who jumps away from his touch for fear of hurting him. Whisper and Zane are opposites: one is quiet the other playful, one is terrified while the other will go on fighting the world. While Whisper finds Zane intriguing, she is afraid. Not of him, never! But of the past. Of the one who put her in the asylum in the first place. Zane and his close circle within his pack work hard to free his mate of a fate possibly worse than death, for why would anyone want to be called insane and a murderer? Will Zane gain her trust in time? Will Whisper be able to accept that she is normal and not a killer? Or, will her nightmares come to life and rip them apart forever?

Epilogue

The creature had built its own pack: a pack of loners, of cruel wolves, of the ruthless. It knew their loyalty hinged on its own power to keep them in line, but it wasn't worried. It knew the power it wielded was more than the average being. It knew how weak they were, knew their weakness was the reason for their cruelty.

After much searching, after many months of interrogating and killing, the creature found what it was looking for! All it took was a firm paw and a few threats to the loved ones. Now, it knew what it had to do. It knew that it's next move would have to be planned perfectly. It knew that a pack would not let another one of their own be taken without a fight. It did not matter what they thought or felt, though. The creature could end their miserable lives in a few minutes time.

"What is the plan, Lorn?"

The creature glanced at the male who spoke, understood that he would betray anyone who didn't give him everything. That was why he was here now. He didn't like his alpha and the mate he chose. He didn't like how his former Luna was always soft with the weak. But the creature would not trust such a coward.

"You keep going as you have been. I will have resources for you soon to destroy the weak minded leaders of your pack." The creature began to turn away, then paused. "Don't blame me for your failures later on."

The male laughed, so confident in himself. "I do not fail, Lorn!"

The creature knew better. This male had failed plenty of times. The first time was with an alpha. "You are a fool if you do not understand the mistakes you have made, pup!"

The male growled. "I'm no more a pup than you!"

"You are a pup because you have not done what I have."

The creature left the male fuming with anger, but was not afraid of the puny wolf. It's senses were uncanny. It would hear him come from a mile away, just like it heard the next male, one she loved as her executioner.

"You're late," it said fifteen minutes later as they met in the middle.

"You have horrible ideas of how long tasks should take."

The creature smiled. "And yet, you never fail."

"I know the consequences if I fail."

The creature circled the male, liking the fear he protruded, the sweat beading at the nape of his neck. "My next task is yet to be decided, Alpha. Take a vacation! I will let you know when you are needed."

"How do I know this isn't a trick?"

"I give my word."

The male momentarily hesitated, but he knew the creature's word was law. If it said he got a break, he would get a break which included an extended amount of time where the creature would not call upon him for anything. It was one thing it gave out sparingly.

The male bowed his head. "Thank you, Lorn."

The creature scoffed. "Don't thanks me! It's worthless coming from the likes of you!"

With that, the creature disappeared through the trees and waited.
