Richard is still chuckling as we step into reception. Charlotte is re-reading the contract yet again.

No, not the paper…. It’s the ink that’s going to give out….

“All clear to you?” asks Richard. He looks almost as pleased as she does. But then, it can’t be every day he gets such a good response from a trainee.

“Oh yes, absolutely.” The grin hasn’t left her face. “How could I refuse? There’s only one thing…”

Oh… crap…. Not again….

Now then, Madam…. You’ve tested his limits far enough….

Richard is looking dubious….

She points to a paragraph where she has made some small annotations. “The clause about paying tuition and university fees: that doesn’t need to be in there. The fees are already paid.”

She still doesn’t understand what she’s being offered….

…. I’ll get Francis to have a word with her….

His patience sounding worn, “This is not a one-year contract, Charlotte,” says Richard. “You will need that clause for later years.”
