"This world has quite a variety of magic," he thought to himself.
He had just finished reading an entire book introducing the magic system of this world. He discovered that the magic here was quite different from that in the Harry Potter universe.
In the world of Harry Potter, magic was mainly geared towards everyday life. Most spells were created to make wizards' lives easier and more comfortable, while the magic in this world was primarily designed for combat.
Moreover, the variety of magic was vast.
Besides the elemental magic systems he was familiar with, there were also some unique types of magic, such as the Requip magic used by the melee-type dark mage he had previously defeated.
This type of magic allows a user to store various magical weapons in a specific space, which they can summon and swap during battle. The size of this space depends on the user's mastery of the magic.
There was also Form magic, which enhances attack power by shaping elements into various forms.
Attachment magic, which enables the user to attach their soul to different objects for combat.
Celestial Spirit magic, which uses special celestial keys to open the gates to the celestial realm and summon spirits to aid in battle.
There were countless other subcategories like Smoke magic, Warrior magic, Painting magic, Script magic, Godspeed magic, Curse Song, Take Over magic, and so on—over a hundred distinct classifications.
And this didn't even include the extremely dangerous Forbidden magic, the Lost magic that has long since disappeared, or the terrifyingly powerful Super magic capable of destroying towns or even entire continents.
However, in general, magic could be divided into two main categories: Holder-type and Ability-type.
Holder-type magic involved the use of magical items combined with one's magical energy, like Celestial Spirit magic or Card magic.
Ability-type magic, on the other hand, manifested directly from the user's own trained magical energy, like Form magic or Take Over magic.
After taking a short break, he picked up a magazine dedicated to the major magic guilds.
Two days later, George spread his wings and flew out of the room's window, gliding over the central Cardia Cathedral and crossing a clear river. He eventually landed on the high ground in front of the great forest to the northwest, where he saw the famous Fairy Tail guild of the kingdom.
It was a three-story building with a sign at the entrance featuring two dancing fairies. The roof displayed the guild's iconic fairy emblem.
From what he had gathered from magazines and the locals, the Fairy Tail guild had been around for over a century and had a good reputation in the area.
The mages of Fairy Tail had never been known to bully ordinary people, which suggested that the guild's morals were sound.
However, they were somewhat reckless in their actions.
They could complete tasks regardless of their difficulty, but often in the process, they couldn't control their magic, resulting in the destruction of public property. This had led to frequent public condemnations by the Magic Council.
Given his current abilities, he wasn't considered a top-tier mage in this world.
So, finding a reliable guild with a good reputation would help him focus on studying and researching magic with peace of mind.
Most importantly, this guild had already accepted a magical cat like him before, so his chances of joining were significantly higher.
Standing before the guild's doors, George extended his paw and pushed open the intricately patterned entrance.
A spacious hall came into view, filled with chairs and groups of mages sitting together at tables. They were guzzling down alcohol and loudly sharing their stories, creating a lively atmosphere.
The sudden opening of the doors drew the attention of the mages, who all turned to look.
When they saw George, the small cat with golden fur standing upright at the entrance, they couldn't help but blink in unison.
"Happy, why did you dye your fur gold? And where's Natsu? Weren't you two heading to Hargeon to find a dragon?"
One of the mages, a man with prominent buckteeth, waved toward George.
George used his flight magic to soar directly to the counter and called out loudly:
"I'm not Happy. My name is George, and I want to join Fairy Tail. Could you tell me what the procedure is?"
"You're definitely a bit different from Happy. You look... smarter."
A female mage sitting at the front desk, wearing a blue bikini top and flared pants, gave George a somewhat confused look. Then, without warning, she grabbed a barrel of ale that was as thick as three people and began to chug it down noisily.
The sheer sight of it made George's whiskers twitch involuntarily. He had never seen anyone drink like that before—it was almost too bold, even by his standards.
"Kana, if Happy heard you say that, he'd be heartbroken," said a gentle voice.
A woman with a radiant smile, dressed in a red dress and with a stunning figure, stood up from behind the counter. She looked warmly at George and added with a smile, "To join the guild, you'll need the guild master's approval. Wait here for a moment, and I'll go upstairs to fetch him."
"Thank you very much!" George replied politely, then took a seat on one of the round stools at the front desk.
The fair-skinned, sweet-looking woman with white hair was Mirajane. George recognized her from the magic magazines, where she was frequently referred to as Fairy Tail's "poster girl" and had often modeled for the mage magazine Sorcerer Weekly.
She was immensely popular throughout the kingdom. As for her strength, the magazine hadn't mentioned much, so George guessed that she wasn't very powerful.
Now that the mages knew George wasn't Happy and that he wanted to join Fairy Tail, they began to smile and chat amongst themselves.
Meanwhile, George kept himself busy, scanning the hall with his sharp eyes, trying to identify the well-known, powerful mages he had seen featured in magazines.
The shirtless guy wandering around in shorts must be Gray, a mage known for his Ice Make magic. The one flirting with two female mages was Loke, a Holder-type mage.
A particularly tall man with white hair, like Mirajane's, was Elfman, known as "Beast Arm" for his prowess in Take Over magic.
However, Natsu, the "Fire Dragon" mage, and his fellow magical cat, Happy, were not there. From what the other mage had said earlier, it seemed they had gone to Hargeon to look for a dragon.
But something puzzled George. From what he had read in the magical history books, weren't dragons supposed to have been extinct in this world long ago?
This world did have dragons, and according to the books, they were far more powerful than the ones in the Harry Potter universe. The dragons here had intelligence greater than humans and could wield mighty dragon magic.
It was said that in ancient times, dragons ruled this world, but for some unknown reason, they became extinct, allowing humans to rise as the dominant species.
In the Harry Potter world, dragons were formidable, but they lacked intelligence—they were just large fire-breathing lizards with immense physical strength.
"None of the S-class mages are here," George thought, slightly disappointed as he scanned the room.
According to the magazine, the most powerful mages in the kingdom were the Ten Wizard Saints, and Fairy Tail's guild master was one of them. Right after them were the S-class mages, and Fairy Tail had several who made the list.
Just as George was lamenting, the guild doors were violently kicked open.
"We're back!"
A boy with spiky pink hair, sharp eyes, and a scarf; a blue cat carrying a small bag; and a tall, busty girl with long blonde hair appeared in the doorway of the guild.
