“I’m sorry I haven’t been around, Margaux. I hate the idea of you being alone all these years,” I said.
“Oh, I haven’t been alone all this time, dear. I have partners, a Mr. Jamieson, and his wife,” Margaux said. “I met them not long after you all left. We’ve kept it on the downlow as the kids say. They just got together with their children and their children’s families in upstate New York. They have a grown son and daughter and although I’ve met them, they think it’s time they told them about me, about our relationship. We considered me going, but we just don’t know how their children are going to react. They should be returning today. I’m a little nervous to find out. They’re not a dolphin family.”
I started to laugh, thinking about what Cole had said to me so many years ago. Maybe he was right about dolphins, and right now, that made me kind of happy. I was glad to be from open minded people, and even more glad to hear that Margaux had had a life for all these years.
