Chapter 10: The Test of Talent and the Invasion

The next day, with a spirit for learning magic, Grey and Fai went to the academy. They requested some free time to study in the library.

Fai explained that magic becomes active when we recite the appropriate magic incantation. However, if someone has an innate talent since birth, they don't need to recite the magic incantation.

"Grey, this is an elemental crystal. It will test your innate talent and also determine if you can use magic or not," Fai said as he took out a clear crystal stone and handed it to Grey.

Curious, Grey took the stone and held it in his hand.

"This crystal will respond to the magic within our bodies. The way to activate it is quite simple, close both your hands around the crystal, then feel what flows within you. After that, say the word 'Awaken' and observe any changes in the crystal," Fai explained while observing the crystal.

Grey followed Fai's instructions and felt energy flowing from within his body. He felt delighted.

"I have a talent for magic," Grey thought to himself.

However, upon opening his hands, Grey and Fai were surprised by what happened before them. The crystal only emitted colorless light.

Fai felt puzzled by this.

"This crystal should emit light according to the element that is close to us," Fai said with confusion. He then took the stone and tried it himself.

"Look at this, Grey. The stone emits red light, which means I have an innate talent for controlling the element of fire," Fai said, showing that the crystal had changed color. Grey was amazed to see the crystal emitting red light.

"Let's ask a teacher who knows more about magic," Fai suggested, leading Grey out of the library. Along the way, they saw many classrooms in the academy, and Fai took Grey into a magic class.

Upon entering, the students were surprised to see the sudden arrival of Fai and Grey. One student asked with a raised voice, "What are you doing in our class? Are you looking for trouble?"

However, they ignored the comment, and Fai approached the teacher who was teaching magic.

"Hello, sir. I'm Fai Agnia. I have a question. But before that, let me introduce you to Grey. He is Nathaniel, one of the rank 7 elemental mages on the continent of Terramore," Fai said, explaining to Grey about the teacher in front of them.

"Hello, sir. I'm Grey. Nice to meet you," greeted Grey, slightly bowing his head.

"Haha, don't be so formal. You're Fai's personal guard, right? I've heard about you. So, what do you need?" Nathaniel said, sitting in his chair.

"Grey is trying to find out what element he has, but his elemental crystal doesn't emit any light, just transparent light," Fai explained, taking out the elemental crystal.

"Grey, give it a try," Fai requested Grey to retest using the elemental crystal.

After trying, the result was the same, the elemental crystal didn't emit any light.

"Grey, when someone has an innate element, this elemental crystal will emit light according to the color of the element. For example, the fire element would make the crystal emit red light, the earth element emits dark yellow light, the wind element emits bright green light, the water element emits dark blue light, and the light element emits bright yellow light," Nathaniel explained to Grey. Then he continued, "However, in your case, it seems that you don't have an innate element."

Grey felt disappointed to hear that, but Fai encouraged him.

"Grey, even though you don

't have an innate element, you can still use magic. However, you'll have to work a little harder to master it."

"Alright, I'll work harder," Grey said, with a hint of disappointment still visible on his face.

While they were discussing magic, shadows in the city began to move and headed towards the academy.

There were 15 people dressed in all black standing in front of the academy. One of them said, "Let's begin."

The person then recited a magic incantation, and a large magic circle appeared, big enough to cover the entire academy.

"Hurry, I can only maintain this magic circle for 30 minutes. Flatten everything with the ground. Don't worry, no one can escape because I have set up a trap magic," the person said.

They then launched their attack.

Inside the academy, when the magic circle appeared, Nathaniel's expression changed.

"Damn, this is a trap magic and weakening magic. It seems the attackers this time are quite prepared," Nathaniel said. He then used communication magic to inform the entire academy and said, "Students, don't panic. Gather in the library. Teachers, gather in my office immediately!"

After that, Nathaniel went to evacuate the students in the academy.

Grey, witnessing the situation, panicked, but seeing Fai's calmness, he tried to stay calm.

"Come on, Grey, let's head to the library," Fai said, pulling Grey and running towards the library.

Meanwhile, the attackers continued their assault.

"Freeze this world, Frost Domain!"

"Burn this place, Inferno!"

"I am the envoy of darkness. I command you to bring chaos to this place. Summon: Legion Undead!"

Some of them cast high-level area magic, while others advanced to destroy the entire academy.
