Prologue

The weather was rough and dark clouds swirled around the island - the unharmed island, the uninhabited island. The water was a deep blue colour and raging, the waves crashing onto a cliff face on the Southern side of the island.

The cliff was a sheer drop forty metres down, jagged and steep but a clearing stood before it, a clearing of grass and trees. Rain poured down in sheets, thunder struck in the distance.

Lightning struck, grazing the ground, a brilliant flash of white, searing the grass. The storm stopped abruptly, the wind blew in the opposite direction, the water fell still.

A black swirl appeared, a swirl of black and purple. Two men stepped out, the first tall and skinny, with pale skin, his hair was slicked back. He immediately backed away, stumbling, and he drew nearer to the cliff face.

The second man advanced, his eyes were a deathly colour of black, long dark robes billowed behind him.

"Where is the boy?" His voice was high, "Igor, where is he?

The second man backed away further, "He - he wasn't there, it was wrong - Henrique was wrong."

"You mean to say you did not find him?" The man advanced, his eyes were menacing, his hands outstretched.

"No, please my Lord, give me another chance." Igor stumbled backwards, his body quivering at the edge of the cliff.

"This was your second chance, was it not?" The man paused, he aligned his arms into a X shape across his chest, and thrust them outwards. A burst of red light shot out, striking Igor and he fell forward.

"I asked you to bring me the boy, did I not?" The tone of his voice rose. Igor nodded on the ground as he croaked for breath.

The man closed his eyes, looking directly at Igor then dragged his foot in the shape of a semicircle on the ground. He opened his eyes, he thrust his hands towards the clearing.

The ground cracked, drying up, and several roots shot out, wrapping themselves around Igor, making their way up his neck and tightening.

"Fail one more time," He spoke in a soft voice, "I will not be so forgiving." The roots loosened, dropping Igor to the ground. He gasped for breath and staggered upward, clutching his chest.

"Go. Do not fail me."

Igor nodded, he pinched his fingers together and drew a circle in the air. He disappeared into a swirl of black and purple.

The man stayed behind, he sat down at the cliff side, looking down at the Ocean. He snapped his fingers and a shard of glass appeared in his palm. He sighed and looked into the broken piece of glass.

A young boy stared back at him smiling broadly across his face. He had bright blue eyes and dusty blonde hair. The man turned away from the piece, looking away, he threw the piece into the ocean. Breathing hard, he closed his eyes and the man, too, disappeared.
