Chapter 19
"I like my things in a certain way and if it's not I don't compromise ,"Dante stated.
His aura seemed arrogant and powerful as if he had a very good upbringing that made him set certain standards for his life .
"You hardly talk ,this is the first time we are able to hold a conversation ,"Adele stated as she had the last bite of dim sum.
"Unnecessary gossip does held my interest ,"Dante said in a boring tone .
"Don't your peers find you boring,"Adele was curious.
"Adele ,I can assure you boring is the last thing others think of me ,"Dante chuckled.
Adele knew she was an introvert but when necessary she made an effort to talk but Dante acted as if uttering a word more will cost him money.
She wanted to pay the bill as last time he had taken her to such a fancy place. Also if this was some expensive place picked by him obviously she couldn't afford as if she went above her monthly budget then it will be difficult to even buy books.
But this Asian restaurant seemed affordable and she did not want him to think she is free loading of him.
The waiter came with the bill and as Adele was taking out cash from her purse Dante beat her and already gave him his card.
"Dinner is on me , give back his card ,"Adele extended the cash.
The waiter was about to give back the card but one look from Dante made him froze .
"Make it quick ," Dante growled.
The waiter shivered from his harsh tone and fastened his footsteps to get the work done.
"I told you it's my treat ,also was it necessary to scare the poor waiter ,"Adele hissed.
"When did I scare him, "Dante asked innocently.
"Most importantly a gentleman never lets a lady pay the bill, "Dante declared.
"So you are a gentleman now, "Adele raised her brow.
"When I have not been one, "Dante said smugly .
Adele rolled eyes and the waiter returned the card. As they sat in the car this time the silence was somewhat comfortable .She did not feel like she was sitting on pins and needles but indeed enjoyed gazing the night sky.
Dante dropped her at the same spot where he had earlier picked her.
"I had a good time, bye, "Adele said and he nodded his head.
A few seconds passed and she was the first one to break their intense eye contact.
"I will be going then,"Adele murmured and turned around.
Just as she has taken a few steps he called her name.
"If you want I can try talking more ,"Dante said in a determined tone.
Slowly her lips curled upward and glancing at his face one last time she walked away from there not giving him any response.
That silly smile stayed on her face till she hit the bed even Myra asked why she looked happy but she choose to remain silent.
Don't know the exact reason but she felt giddy by his declaration and as she closed her eyes a peaceful sleep came to her.
After classes Adele packed up her things ready to go to her part time job, she was waiting to catch the bus but unfortunately it started raining heavy. In bad weather it was always a trouble to get the public transport.
"Adele, are you going home, "Hudson asked.
"No, I need to go somewhere else, "Adele replied.
"I will drop you on my way, "Hudson offered.
"No, thanks .I can manage, "Adele declined.
"Come on, should you be stubborn all the time .Do you think it's easy to get bus in this rain ,"Hudson seemed a bit irritated.
She did not want to miss even a day of work as her pay will be docked but also she did not want to get wet in the rain.
"I need to go to X bookstore, is it convenient for you .I don't want to trouble you, "Adele seemed hesitant.
"You could never trouble me .Time is all I have so I don't mind dropping you wherever you want ,"Hudson seemed a bit relived when Adele did not put up a fight this time.
"Sure, let's go, "Adele replied.
"Wait for me here only, I mean it .Don't go anywhere I will get my car quickly, "Hudson stated.
Adele nodded her head, she could still not call Hudson a good friend. They met regularly on campus and sometimes even spent time during the cultural clubs .He was always with the popular groups while she stayed in the corner quietly .But recently things have been changing , a few girls came up to her to chat. She found them kind and friendly, she shared some common interest with them. She was still never welcomed with open arms in this elite university and know she will never be .The hierarchy was formed based on their family social status which she could never compete with.
There were some students who gave her dirty and pity looks ,made fun of her clothes and bitched behind her back but all these never bothered her.
"Thank god ,you are here .I seriously felt you will vanish as always ,"Hudson said as he opened the car door.
"You say as if we never see each other ,"Adele scoffed.
"But we don't talk and by the time I come to you ,you would have disappeared from there ,"Hudson accused.
"You seem busy with your group ,I had no idea you wanted to talk ,"Adele replied.
"You always be alone getting lost in your own world , I thought of giving some time and then talking to you but it failed ,"Hudson complained.
"Well ,what do you want to talk except annoy me with loud chattering ,"Adele sighed.
"Only you find my presence a nuisance but I bet you will be singing praises of me very soon,"Hudson said smugly.
"Only in your dreams ,"Adele chuckled .
They reached the destination and Adele got down and told him to leave.
