Chapter 40 : Wide Awake

I awoke to a dark and blurry room. My vision slowly became accustomed to the light, and I was met with Adriano’s gorgeous muscular back. The way his grey joggers sat low on his hips and accentuated them turned me on.
He was leaning over on the bed with his head in his hands, gripping his messy dark hair. What was wrong? Had he slept beside me the whole time, waiting for me to wake up? Was he okay?
Reaching across the bed, I gently touched his back. He peered over his broad shoulders at me with puffy eyes. Had he been crying? I’ve never seen him cry before. My heart ached for him suddenly, and all I wanted to do was tell him it was going to be okay.
“Hey.” I weakly spoke, swallowing hard.
He quickly shifted and laid beside me, gathering me into his arms and making me cry.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
“It’s alright. I’ve had worse.”
He buried his face into my neck and mumbled, “Have you really?”
“No.” I laughed and winced at the ache from it.
