Chapter 31: In the Shadows, Comes the LIght

Shayla wanted to give up. She didn't see a way out of this mess anytime soon and clearly, no one was coming to save her.

She slid down to the floor with her back against the wall and placed her hands on her face and sobbed hard tears of sorrow for this fate that had now become hers.

Her chest heaved in and out, lulling her into a fitful sleep. She slumped over to the floor on her side as her dreams took over her reality.

She rubbed her eyes. She was still in the darkness of her current prison, but there was a low light in the corner of the mysterious room. She squinted her eyes to try to make out where this light was coming from, and it wasn't until she was literally upon it that she realized it was her mother returning once more to visit her in her slumber.

"Shayla, what are you doing?" asked Kinley.

"What do you mean?"

"Why are you giving up?" asked Kinley.

"What choice do I have, Mom?"
