Chapter 28: Seeing Ghosts

Shayla

Once Shayla woke from her nap, she was foggy. She felt as if her mother had been in the room with her. And why was she smelling pancakes in the afternoon? Had Hadley magically learned to cook?

She highly doubted that. She couldn't even get that kid to make his own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

She ventured slowly to the front of the house, expecting there to be a giant pancake batter explosion with it dripping from the ceiling and drapes.

Instead, she found someone she used to know wearing one of her aprons and dancing to a tune being hummed.

"Dad?"

"Hi, pumpkin," said Seth as he turned the pan and flipped a pancake into midair.

"What in the h*ll are you doing here?" asked Shayla with pure confusion written all over her face.

"I let him in," said Hadley as he walked into the kitchen and pulled out his ear buds.

"What? Why? What's going on? Am I still dreaming?" asked Shayla as she pinched her arm and yelped.

"Must not be," said Hadley.
