Papa bear and bear cub

Tiffany gave her a raised brow side glance before rolling her eyes and firing up the ignition. Breanna smiled falsely as if she could see who she was speaking to.

"I don't want to know what your plans are tonight but I want you to attend an event with me," the man on the other end of the line proclaimed. He was her father, Mr. Wright Johnson.

"But daddy…" Breanna argued weakly.

"But nothing!" Mr. Wright shunned her. "How can the daughter of the most successful lawyer in Maslles country miss such a major event? I won't take no for an answer. You always defy my orders but not this time."

Breanna sighed tiredly as she listened to her father lecture her about his status. He wanted her to work under him after law school but she was determined to make a name for herself. It was under her father's influence that she agreed to study law but she didn't want to be in his shadow. He was indeed one of the most outstanding lawyers in the country.

"Daddy, can you hear me out first before you make your declaration?" Breanna protested.

"What do you want to tell me that I don't already know? Yes you got your first case today and it is one hell of a nasty case that you may lose but guess what bear cub, I would be glad if you indeed lose," Mr. Wright sneered.

"Daddy!" Breanna exclaimed. She was not shocked by his poor choice of words but by his already-known knowledge of her first case. "What's the point of watching my every move? Would you mind letting me do some things alone?" She asked sarcastically.

"I don't care what you say, all I know is that once you lose that case you must come and work with me in the firm where you belong," Mr. Wright stated. "Nothing will change my opinion," he declared decisively.

Breanna instantly felt discouraged but refused to show it. She smiled as if she could see her father and affirmed confidently, "Well guess what Daddy, I won't lose the case."

"We'll see but that is not why I called you. I want my daughter to be there no matter what," Mr. Wright declared.

"Quick question Daddy, is the police inspector general going to be there?" Breanna asked out of the blue surprising her father who didn't expect their argument to end so quickly.

"Yes I guess he will be there but why are you asking?" Mr. Wright muttered, half confused then he quickly realized why she asked which only made him annoyed. "Don't tell me you plan to harass the man during the event. Breanna Babette Johnson, I won't let you embarrass me or our family," he stated.

Breanna balled her eyes. Her father only calls her by her full name when she does or says something astonishing to him. Because he was also a brilliant mind, their thinking was similar. "I'm not planning to harass anyone," Breanna replied firmly. "I'm simply asking for more information so I can understand the situation better and be prepared for the event."

A lopsided smile spread across her face as she looked at Tiffany with a flint of mischief in her eyes. "Don't worry Daddy, I won't embarrass you or myself but I know who will. "

"What are you talking about? " Mr. Wright asked in confusion. He feared that his daughter might do something drastic to prove she could survive without him.

" Oh it is nothing Daddy, I just want to request that I be allowed to bring a plus one," Breanna said still smirking cunningly. It caught Tiffany's attention and she looked confused wondering why she was smirked at.

" You don't say... And there I was thinking my daughter would become a nun. " Mr. Wright told a joke that was not so funny to his daughter who in protest, flashed her tongue at her phone like the immature she was. "Anyways, do whatever you want, the invitation will be sent to you. "

In response, Breanna rolled her eyes at her father's sarcasm. She hadn't been in a relationship for a long time. No matter how many times he tried to hook her up with someone, it always ended up badly.

"Bye Daddy, see you tonight," Breanna said and abruptly ended the call. She turned to Tiffany and resumed smirking. "Do you want to be my plus one tonight at a special event?"

"Woah Breanna I didn't know your life was this sad, " Tiffany replied sarcastically rather than answering what she was asked.

Breanna glared at Tiffany harshly. Her smirk turned into a frown. If looks could kill, Tiffany would probably choke on her saliva. "You sassy fool. I am inviting you because the police inspector general will be there. Didn't you say there were some restrictions on access to certain files in Akila's case? It is time to ask him about them."

"And you think he would tell me, a baby lawyer? " She scoffed and continued looking ahead. "You are such a fool. Do you think others before us didn't complain about it?"

" All I am asking you to do is convince him they are withholding information. Once that is established we can move to the next phase of the plan," Breanna told tiredly. She already knew working with Tiffany would be a hassle so she wasn't surprised by her attitude.

"What you are asking is easier said than done but I am quite the charmer so I will work my charms on that seasoned crock and see how good he is, "Tiffany said and sniggered. She knew that she would be able to use her endearing personality to convince the crock to cooperate - she just had to try.

"That's the spirit! " Breanna clapped. Her phone chimed and she looked at the notification but her face blanked as she read it, "It is a masked ball so I'd advise you to get a mask and be ready before 7, I will come pick you up so send me your address. "

Tiffany whined dramatically. "I don't want to be your bestie so why would I have to give you my house address?"

" I don't want to be your bestie too! "Breaanna retorted, "You know what? I will send you the event location, you can come yourself! " She humphed and looked away from Tiffany begrudgingly, feigning annoyance.

Tiffany didn't bother to argue, knowing that if she wanted to make it to the event, she would have to rely on Breanna's help. "Calm down, you creepy Venus fly trap, I will send my house address. I know you want to know where I live," she jeered. "I will not be alone, so you can't murder me," she added then winked playfully.

Breanna rolled her eyes but refused to answer her partner, she really wanted to ask why she was likened to a carnivorous plant but that would only prolong the argument, the only thing that mattered to her now was the dress she would wear, she was not a sucker for dressing even though she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.

Meanwhile, a certain prince was getting ready to attend the same since he was a special guest of honor…
