CHAPTER 49

Adela's Point of View 

"You're just going to tell me your reason, is that so difficult? You could have just admitted that there's something going on between you two!" Primo exclaimed in an angry tone, prompting me to slap him in return.

"Do I look like that kind of girl? Do I seem like someone who'd be two-timing? Do I look flirtatious to you, Primo? Do I look like I fool around?" I retorted with frustration, swallowing hard.

"No, but that's how it seems! Why can't you just tell me why it happened! Tell me the truth!" he pleaded in a softer tone, but I shook my head.

I can't tell him; he'll get even angrier. He might say that I should have ignored Catherine's threats before she forced me to confront Van.

I don't know how to explain the truth he's demanding from me.

I don't know how to justify myself. I can't casually reveal everything; it fills me with shame.
