Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty Seven - Amelia Pleads Fifth

What Adana kept saying about her father and and now Adian tried to say in part something about Adana's father.

I couldn't concentrate on Dr. Jenkins testimony because my head was all over the place. I wanted to scream and retreat from this battle that's raging in me but I'm always afraid of running, I'm always afraid of being locked in a Mental Asylum, where daddy couldn't find me.

Lifting my head when Adian squeeze my hand tightly in his, to see his only focus was on my therapist, who sat telling the court and my daddy what she and Amelia did to me after he and mummy left me.

The woman who along with Amelia Knights single handedly took my baby away from me.

"Yes sir, she did." Dr. Jenkins responded to whatever question Mr. Gussippie ask her causing Adian to clasped my hands tighter.

My eyes reverted from Adian's to Mr. Gussippie who continued staring at Dr. Jenkins. With his back facing us I couldn't see, how he was looking at her.

"And what is the name she cried out during her sessions?" Adian tensed up beside me at Mr. Gussippie question Dr. Jenkins.

Dr. Jenkins with her head bent was hesitant in responding to Mr. Gussippie.

"Answer the question, Dr. Jenkins." Judge Roberts ordered her but from across the room, I can see her head shaking slightly.

"F**k!" Adian muttered beside me because just like me, he needed to have this inhouse trial over with.

I jolted with the slamming of Judge Roberts hammer.

"I have no other choice but to hold you in contempt without any visitors." Judge Roberts ruled but Dr. Jenkins head was still bent and she didn't react to Judge Roberts ruling.

Dr. Jenkins was led to the back of the courtroom, escorted by two female securities, while Judge Roberts rustled through the file on his desk.

"Lifting his eyes to Mr. Gussippie, "Are you ready to question Mrs. Amelia Knights?" He asked Mr. Gussippie and the prosecutor.

"Yes sir," the prosecutor responded with a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, from the side view I had of him.

This is not good for us then?

Daddy isn't going home today, I wanted to ask but it's not as if I could ask the Judge that burning question.

With his back facing us, "yes sir," Mr. Gussippie finally responded to Judge Roberts question.

Like Adian, I tensed up when the court clerk announced Amelia Knights to the witness stand.

While we were on the fifteen minutes break, I begged my father not to make eye contact with the woman who killed my mommy, my brother and my baby. He promised that he won't but as she made her way to the witness stand, he lifted his head and watch her take her seat.

He abruptly looked away and met my eyes, giving me a small smile.

He and I stared at each other while Amelia was being sworn in on the witness stand and I nod to him, hoping he heard my silent plea.

Mr. Gussippie spoke first, "Mrs. Knights, you were one of the legal guardians of the minor, Hailey Sullivan, after the incarceration of Mr. Sullivan. Is that correct?" Mr. Gussippie's tone changed from when he questioned Dr. Jenkins.

"Well there was no..." Amelia was saying when Mr. Gussippie abruptly cut her off.

"Yes or no please." He instructed her and I couldn't help the twitch that danced on the corner of my lip, finding victory to see the haughty expression on her face disappeared in an instant as she stared helplessly at the prosecutor and my father, who when I looked, eyes were still fixated on me.

"Yes, but there..." she continued when Mr. Gussippie cut her off again.

"Yes or no please" he said again.

I turned to see her eyes leave daddy's face before focusing all her attention now on me.

With a smug look, I smiled at the hateful glare she threw in my direction.

"Did you obtained the name of any medications outside of Dr. Jenkins office, then have her prescribe it to the minor, Hailey Sullivan?" Mr. Gussippie asked. "And before you answer, the name of the medication Dr. Jenkins prescribed for Ms. Sullivan is still in her file, on your name from the doctor you got the actual prescription from." Mr. Gussippie added and for the first time since that day Amelia wept in my office, I see a woman about to fall apart in front of me.

Amelia remained silent, with her eyes no longer on me but the man who sat beside me. The man who kissed the ground she walked on. The man who chose wrong over right in the past to support her.

"Mr. Knights," Judge Roberts addressed Amelia, "if you refuse to answer the question, I will have to charge you in contempt and placed you in lockup, until you are ready to answer," like he did with Dr. Jenkins, Judge Roberts warned Amelia.

Lifting her head, she smiles mockingly at Judge Roberts, "I plead the fifth." She smiles.

Nodding, "take her in," Judge Roberts instructed a court clerk.

Amelia was taken aback while being escorted out of the courtroom, looking back once to see her son, giving him a pleading glance.

"With the witnesses refusal to testify, this court is adjourned until Monday at nine am." Judge Roberts informs us, slams his hammer and walks out the room.

So daddy's not going home?

I got up with my eyes now fixated on my father who was in deep conversation with Mr. Gussippie before lifting his eyes to meet mines as Adian and I approached him.

The guards were already indicating that it's time to leave but I wasn't ready to let him go.

Sensing my fear, "it's going to be alright, HalieyBear," daddy smiles. "It's just and small set back and those ladies will realize how difficult it is to spend the weekend a lockup."
