ADIAN'S POV
Following Jerry, I stood as he opened the door of the ladies room, looking over his shoulders, only to see her crumpled on the floor in front the sink. Rushing past Jerry, I stooped on the floor, grabbing ahold of her arms gently,
She pulled back instantly, panic and fear in her wide eyes. Realizing it's me, she threw herself into my arms wrapping her arms tightly around my neck, almost chocking me.
I slowly wrapped my arms around her, feeling an ache in my chest, feeing her pain. Tightening my arms around her, she sobs into my chest, muttering,'Emmy, Emmy" softly.
Turning to Jerry, "whose Emmy?" I mouthed.
His eyes widen for a moment, as he seems to have realize something , because he walked out, leaving me with her. As her sobs subsided, she loosens her arms from around my neck and a coldness takes the place of her where her warm arms were.
Not wanting to let her go, I held on to her as she starts wriggling out of my arms. I lifted my eyes catching her gaze before she quickly looks away.
"I'm so sorry, I messed up your shirt" she apologizes, as she gaze at my soaked shirt, reaching out and touching the damp area, where she laid her face while she sobbed just a few minutes ago.
Smiling like I did in the coffee shop, when we first met, "it's okay. you're my wife so you can just laundry it" I said jokingly.
Blushing, she tries to stand up, "hold on" I say, as I stood up, gently helping her up.
We stood awkwardly not looking at each other as Jerry bolt into the bathroom. As Jerry came in, I walked out without uttering a word, expecting Jerry will definitely be having quite a few words with me.
As I stepped out, I saw scarface look at me confused as if trying to recognize me. He was busy eyeing my wife that he didn't notice me observing them.
He was in handcuffs! What did Jerry do? While I contemplated going back to talk to Jerry, the waitress approached me.
"Are you okay?" she squeaked touching my arm as if we best buds.
Realizing all eyes were on us, I tried to move away without drawing more unnecessary attention, but the f***ring girl latched on to me.
Trying to gently remove her hand, even though I felt like pushing her the f**k away, I didn't. Last time I flirt with a waitress to upset my wife, I promise.
"A police officer approached me. " are you alright sir?" he asks with his notepad already open. Looking back at me his eyes widened in recognition.
Nodding, he continues. "your friend here says that you were attacked on your way to the washroom?" he asks.
"Friend" I need to kill this now.
Looking around, not seeing a camera, I continued.
"Yes, I was going to the men's room, I saw him about to enter the ladies room, I showed him the right door, but he ignored me. Knowing my girl was inside the ladies room we ended up in a scuffle and well" I pointed to him "there he is and here I am" I give my statement, letting the waitress know that Hailey's my girl.
The police led him away. Why would the cops take him away. He didn't get a chance to do anything because I jumped him. What the hell just happened?
It was then that I realize that the waitress had backed away, covering her shock hearing that Hailey's my girl.
At that moment, I notice Hailey and Jerry approaching me, with Jerry smiling like a jerk. He must have overheard what I said about my girl in the washroom.
Looking at Hailey, realizing she seems lost in her own thoughts, probably not hearing my statement to the officer.
"You ready to leave?" he asks, I want to drop Hailey off at home before heading back to the office." Jerry decided.
"What? No" Hailey started to protest until Jerry shut her down.
"You're going home to rest" Jerry insisted.
When we went to the counter to pay our bill, we found our lunches already packed. I paid for everything. not forgetting a generous tip for my 'friend'.
Jerry decided to drive, taking Hailey directly home to her apartment or should I say penthouse.
I didn't hear him ask direction so I assumed he already knew.
"How did you know where I lived" Hailey asked innocently.
Uncomfortable, Jerry seemed to be searching for a quick answer.
"Your resume" he says.
"Oh" she says in a questioning tone, getting out of the car.
Curious, "I'll escort you up" I volunteered.
Hailey and Jerry looked stunned.
Hailey refused but Jerry agreed, why? I have to find out.
On our way up to the penthouse that Hailey owns "Can I ask you something" I asked.
Without looking at me she nodded.
"Whose Emmy?" I asked with concern.
Without thinking twice. "I don't know" she says nervously, twisting her palms.
Were playing that game? I thought, knowing that she's lying and that it has something to do with the scarred man.
Upon arrival at her apartment. she stepped out turning to me.
"Thank you" she said not looking at me.
"Aren't you inviting me in?" I asked.
'Uncle Jerry's waiting for you downstairs " she says.
"He'll wait" I answered, indicating that we should walk in.
Shaking her head nervously, she turned and walked to the penthouse directly opposite the elevator.
Looking around, "how many people live on this floor? I asked, as the place seemed eerily quiet.
Pausing, she seemed deep in thought. "In the sixteen years I've been here, I never met a neighbor" she says vaguely. "So apparently, it's just me and Mrs. Pierce." she says with a small smile
Before she could punch in the security code, the door flung open and she was pulled into a warm embrace by a slender middle age woman, with full white hair on her head.
As she raised her head, seeing me standing a little way behind Hailey. Her eyes widen in shock which she quickly covers by the tight smile in her face.
Realizing the woman embracing her was staring at me, she shifted, "this is Adian," she told the woman, indicating me, then indicates the woman, " this is Mrs. Pierce, my nanny" she smiles, Her beautiful captivating smile that emphasizes her pearly whites, luscious lips and dimples on both her cheek that only shows with a genuine smile.
"Do I know you?"
