Chapter One Hundred and Five - Meeting the Ex's Family

The balance of my lunch that was spent between my husband and his best friend, were in total silence, compared to when jolly Caleb dined with us.

Why was I even there?

Because Adian consider this the lunch date he planned for us, including Basil?

"So where did you guys disappear to once again this morning?" I finally broke the silence, but, neither Adian nor Basil reacted to my question. They just continued stuffing their faces as if I hadn't even spoken or wasn't even there.

Waving a waiter over, suddenly feeling the urge for a bit of sweets in my system, since alcohol was prohibited for the rest of my life.

With the brightest smile I could muster, I chuckle at the approaching waiter, "hi, I'm sorry to bother you but I am not seeing our waiter around and I need a cheesecake with one fork please," I requested politely.

With a polite smile the waiter took out his notepad, "is that one slice and what flavor?" He asks his eyes on the notepad and his pencil in the air waiting to write down my order.

"Eh no" I frowned, as he lifted his eyes and wait for me to clarify. "I want a cheesecake" I repeated, "an entire cake all to myself and the original please." I smiled cheerfully.

Matching my smile, "right, one cheesecake and one fork, for the beautiful lady," the waiter quickly scribbles down, "be right back," he walks away grinning widely, while I dug into my handbag for my credit card to pay for our lunch, ignoring the two men at the table who stared at me curiously, suddenly realizing, I was there.

With nothing to do, I gazed around the restaurant, meeting three pair of eyes that were staring at me or maybe my table and at my husband since Basil's back was turned to them. Two were from the washroom earlier and the other, is oddly familiar.

The women I couldn't quite place, suddenly got up and walked across to our table and pulled out the chair Mel just vacated, next to Adian and plumps her ass down.

"Wow, if it isn't Adian Knights," the woman chuckles happily placing a hand on my husband's shoulder, "my brother-in-law," she chuckles.

His eyes widen in surprise as he looks at the woman who calls him brother-in-law.

With one hand on Adian's shoulder she stretches the other out to Basil's. "And his faithful sidekick" she laughs mockingly, as both Adian and Basil shrugged her hand of their shoulders.

"I won't have to turn around to see your sidekicks around your table, now would I?" Basil asks the woman while he drank the bottle of water in front of him. "I've suddenly lost my appetite," he mocks, sending me a wink.

Confused, I stared at all three of them.

Adian shoves his plate forward, "me too" he says sarcastically, turning to me, "I'll get the bill" he gets up from the table wearing an annoyed expression, "I'll be right back," he pushes back his chair and walks off.

The woman laughs mockingly at me, "so you're the little mouse that's trying to break up my sister's engagement?" She laughs but her tone has acid flowing from it.

Engagement!

Realizing she's related to Adian's ex-fiance, "so bitch, does actually run in your family." I chuckle, turning away from her to see where my husband walked off to, deciding that if this bitch provokes me, she's chosen the wrong day for that.

"Ooo, the mouse has claws" she chuckles dryly, her smile leaving her face. "Kristen doesn't know about those claws now, does she," Kristen's sister laughs.

Shaking my head, I smiled cynically at her, "now how could she? When she's busy f**king" I pause and smiled at Basil, "which of Adian's friends are the flavor of the day for the ex?" I chuckle, "or is it still that Gary guy?" I mocked, innocently.

Kristen's sister's hid her surprise well, at my comments about her sister's sexual activities.

Laughing out loud, "looks like you didn't end up getting any sleep last night," Basil says slapping the table chuckling at me, before looking at Kristin's sister. "And just a quick update" he says "she's still f**king Gary," he laughs at her hostile glare, an expression she didn't bother to hide, from us.

Adian returned to the table with my cheesecake all packaged neatly in a plastic disposable box, with his eyes on me, he nods to the exit.

Standing up, "time to go and leave" watching Kristin's sister scornfully, "Gary's sister-in-law so that she can run back to her sidekicks" I told Basil watching him wipe his mouth and move away from the table.

With my head held high, I walked out of the restaurant leaving Adian and Basil to follow me.

"Did you get me a fork?" I asked Adian, eyeing my cheesecake as we wait for Basil to get the vehicle.

"Yes boss," Adian says chuckling lightly.

Joining him and his light humor, "I like the sound of that," I smiled up at him, "boss." I tell him.

Adian smiles, but his smile doesn't reach his eyes.

"Where did you go today?" I asked again, clearly not surprising him with my question.

Walking closer to me, hugging the cheesecake to his chest, "Hailey do you trust me?" Adian asks softly, but there is something about his tone, that changes the atmosphere around us. It's as if it was just Adian and I standing in our own world, unaware of the hustle and bustle of the busy street around us.

With a sad smile, I nod, finally lowering my eyes.

Trusting him means, trusting him, no questions asked.

"Hailey" Adian says softly, at the same time that Basil pops the horn when he pulls in front of us.

Turning my fake bright smile on, "come on, I can't wait to dig into the cake," I said, tugging his arm lightly as we walked towards the SUV.

Happy independence America!

Stay safe
