Moving Out

Kendall's POV

The next morning, I was up from bed so early. I had a flight to catch up by 7:30 AM. I rushed myself into the shower and was out in fifteen minutes time. I timed myself to ensure I met up before time.

From one of my boxes, I picked out my travelling outfit; a set of black sweatshirt and sweatpants. I brushed my hair and rolled it into a messy bun, it was much easier to fix my hair that way.

As usual, I applied a black mascara and my matte lipgloss. I wore my stud earrings in both ears. I couldn't forget wearing my Black Orchid perfume. It had a sweet, earthy, warm spicy scent with a touch of Mexican chocolate and truffle. Then, I fit my feet into a pair of white canvas.

I left the room to get my clothes out from the laundry room and was back in a jiffy. I was set to go. I made out of the room with my luggages and shut the door behind. My flight was in less than an hour, I said as I flitted at my white smartwatch on my wrist.

"What are you up to?", I heard him ask. I turned around to see the Devil helping himself to a hot cup of coffee as it was steaming hot.

"Excuse you?", I asked as I pulled to a halt with two of the boxes, each in my both hands.

"I meant to say- You're leaving already?", he asked once more and dropped the cup on his side table. I understood he meant that the first time but, I honestly owed him no explanation. Was he blind to see that I was actually leaving before he interrupted?

"I guess you're right. I'm leaving", I answered. I tried my best to avoid being rude to him.

"Where to?", he inquired to know.

"Well, the last time I checked, I came in as your unexpected guest. So, I don't see any reason you should be questioning me on my whereabouts", I replied plainly and made my way to the main door.

"Not like I care though, I only wanted to offer you a ride, but nevermind", I heard him say loudly. I didn't know what it was that I felt that moment but I called it pain. It hit me hard differently.

He looked relaxed and acted like nothing was happening. I stole a glance at him as I watched him gulp down his cup of coffee. He wasn't even stopping me from leaving. I walked pass him to grab my third box at the door of the guestroom.

"I've got to go. Thanks for everything, Mateo", I said as a tear ran down my cheek. I hid my face slightly from him so he couldn't see the pain I was hiding inside. I finally rolled it to the doorpost slowly. Maybe, I was waiting for him to say something.

"Safe trip to wherever you're heading to this morning. Take care of yourself", he finally said. Then, I saw him drop his empty cup of coffee and walk over to the point where I stood. I wondered why he was approaching me.

"Accept this little token from me, please", he pleaded as he shoved out his hand to me. My gaze darted from his eyes and fell to his hand. It was a cheque of one hundred thousand dollars that he was offering me. Even though he made me hate him to the core, I had to accept it.

"Thank you", I said but my voice didn't get through my vocal cords. I felt only my lips move. With that, he crossed his hand over and patted my shoulder. Then, he walked back into his sitting room. It was strange seeing Mateo act kind for the first time in my life.

Just then, a black SUV car with tinted glasses swerved in and honked in front of the mansion. It was the driver that I had booked earlier in the day. He came out of the driver's seat, dressed in a white shirt and black pair of trousers and walked towards my direction.

"Good morning ma'am", he greeted with a warm smile.

"Morning dear. Please, these are my luggages", I said, pointing at my three boxes. "Handle them gently and take them to the trunk of the car", I added, trying to sound polite.

"At your service", he replied as he rolled them out and did as I had instructed. I walked over to the car and with his kind gestures, he opened the backseat door and ensured I had made myself comfortable before hopping into his. I smiled warmly in appreciation.
