Soft Silence

I was driving along a snowy back road with Start by Gaho blaring out of the car speakers and trees passing in a blur. Still trying to do whatever I could to lift me out of the funk I was in. All of a sudden I hit a patch of ice and started to spin out. Without much room to maneuver I over corrected and the front of the car hit a tree. I sat there my hands clutching the steering wheel so hard my knuckles were white, my heart in my throat and pounding so hard the sound of it drowned everything out. I couldn't believe what happened, I was very lucky I wasn't hurt. I laid my head on the steering wheel, letting my heart rate come down and the shaking subside. When I was sure I could stand I got out of the car to check the damage. The front wasn't too bad thankfully but when I lifted the hood smoke billowed out. I didn't know much about cars but I was betting that that wasn't a good sign. I ran my fingers through my hair out of frustration, trying to think of what to do. Surely I should call a tow and probably my mom but as it so happened I had no signal whatsoever so that idea was out the window. Luckily I remembered passing a town not too far back and they would have a phone I could use at least so I decided to start walking.

"Man it's farther than I thought it was. This is the worst. Aaaand now I'm talking to myself yay." Hanging my head in shame I kept walking, listening to well nothing because the snow muted everything but the crunching of my footsteps. Out of nowhere I heard something in the woods across the road. Stopping to look I figured it was an animal yet the sound came again, I strained my eyes to see what exactly was making the noise but there was nothing. I continued trudging through the snow humming to myself to keep the cold off my mind which didn't last long seeing as more snow started to fall in thick q-tip like clumps. The falling snow added a sense of weight to the air, raising the hair on the back of my neck.. Without warning another noise broke through the heavy quiet of the snowfall stopping me in my tracks. My breath hitched in my throat and a bone deep chill that had nothing to do with the winter elements settled over me. I stood there rooted to the ground too afraid to move or look where the noise had come from this time. 'You're being silly they're woods that are probably full of animals' I told myself in hopes i could get my feet moving again, but they held steadfast and refused to budge. Shutting my eyes i took a deep breath to steel myself to see what was there, Maybe it was bambi or heck maybe my dreams had come true and Edward Cullen had become real and was here to whisk me away because he's relised his deep love for me, a girl could wish couldn't she? I turned my head slowly, folllowed by my shoulders. My eyes squinting and straining to see something. Out of the depths of the woods appeared two glowing red eyes attached to a massive black form. My mind went blank for a second, frozen in fear. My body sprang into action sending one message 'RUN'. I turned back around and ran which wasn't the best of ideas in and of itself seeing as I'm a major clutz. Proving that point, while fleeing the unknown figure i tripped like a dumbass in a bad horror movie. Slightly winded and a little bruised I scrambled to my feet so I could keep running, Sparing only a glance behind but nothing was chasing behind. The relief was fleeting because I ended up on my back looking up into the grey sky before I could fully turn my head back around. I had run into something closely resembling a soft brick wall, knocking me back and off my feet causing me to hit my head on the road. I blacked out before finding out what I had run into and hoped it wasn't what I had been running from.

While coming to the first thing I realized was the fact that my head felt like it was going to explode. The second being the realization that my entire backside was freezing and wet, which you know happens when you make surprise snow angels. As I opened my eyes the thick grey clouds were promising bigger snowflakes and much more of them. I groaned and wondered if things could possibly get any worse. I spoke too soon because apparently it could.

"Are you alright?" I bolted upright causing my head to spin and throb. Squeezing my eyes shut I tried to steady myself. Once I felt more secure I slowly opened them, standing before me was a man so perfect all I could do was stare with my mouth slightly open. Immediately I felt a connection like I knew him somehow but I would have remembered ever meeting him. He had long black hair with the most alluring almond shaped eyes in a color of the richest chocolate brown. His skin was smooth and tan like he was born kissed by the sun and full bow shaped lips that were giving way to a smirk. My gaze traveled farther down across the wide expanse of his chest and shoulders, down his arms and forearms that looked like they could encapsulate me all night. I halted my thoughts right there 'Woah Lassie you just met and you haven't even said hello yet. You are not a dog in heat get it together.' His eyebrows furrowed, no doubt questioning my sanity. He repeated his question;

" Are you ok? I think you hit your head pretty hard." Noticing my mouth was still open I quickly closed it and stammered;

"Uh...I'm ok I think." Still staring like a star struck teenager I began to mentally chastise myself. 'Get a grip. You are a grown woman for Pete's sake.' I tried to stand but quickly became off balance so the man offered his assistance. I couldn't put my finger on it but I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew him.
