Chapter 34: Joe
Joe made his way back to his truck. He pulled out of the Thompson's drive and drove the half-mile or so down the road to his house. When he pulled his truck into the drive he stopped near the entrance by several large trees, so he was out of sight of the Thompson house. He anxiously looked down the road for the lights from Elizabeth's car.
He waited there for over an hour, but he never saw her. At about eight o'clock, Joe started the truck up and drove the rest of the way down the lane. He couldn't help but worry, as he wondered where she could be. When Joe got to the house, he walked into the kitchen and then over to the small desk on the far side of the room. He grabbed a piece of paper and jotted a note down. He left the kitchen and headed out onto the porch, where he stuck the paper on a nail hanging on the post just outside the door. He flipped on the porch light, so Elizabeth would see it.
