Chapter 65: Archer Skill

"So boring! Waiting every day for the orcs to attack is really annoying!" Rynar lay lazily on the city wall, counting the bushes below. Right now, he felt like he was just waiting to die.

Every day was filled with high tension, and no one knew when the orcs would suddenly march to the city gates. Loshanier City and Riverguard were brightly lit every night, with countless torches wrapped in pine resin planted 500 meters outside the city to prevent surprise attacks from the orcs.

"System sign-in…" Rynar said listlessly, feeling that the sign-in rewards lately had been so… useless! It was true—he had indeed received a bunch of firewood!

The entire winter's worth of firewood for Riverguard had been the result of his sign-ins over the past few days…

"Sign-in successful! Congratulations, host, you have received the Archer Skill Inheritance Statue!"

"Whoa! It's a jackpot?" Rynar instantly perked up.

As everyone knows, there are many types of skills for practitioners, such as basic skills and inheritance skills.

Basic skills are memory skills imprinted in the bloodline after a job change, and ordinary practitioners' basic skills are relatively mediocre.

The difference in strength between practitioners of the same rank often relies on their unique inheritance skills, which are typically passed down through various factions.

For instance, the only knight skill on the continent—Rapid Charge—is found in the Knight's Temple in Riverguard, and learning this skill requires training there.

In the game, the cost of learning unit inheritance skills is a major expense for lords and a resource fiercely contested among factions.

"Let me see what skills I got?" Rynar rubbed his hands excitedly and focused his consciousness on the system space, locating his Archer inheritance skill statue.

Multiple Arrows: Consumes a certain amount of battle energy to condense into battle energy arrows. When fired, the arrows split into three battle energy arrows.

Learning requirement: Second-tier archer. (Skill has no cooldown)

Wild Shot: Increases bow-drawing speed by 25%, stamina by 25%, and stamina recovery speed by 10%. Learning requirement: First-tier apprentice archer. (Passive skill)

A statue of an archer, as tall as a person, appeared in Rynar's view. As he stared at the statue, information about the skills came pouring in.

"Whoa! Archer's divine skill!" Rynar gasped when he saw Multiple Arrows, which could be considered the ultimate skill for archers!

An archer's combat power primarily comes from their bow and arrows, and special arrows can exponentially increase an archer's strength.

Skills that consume significant amounts of battle energy are rare for archers, and they need ample stamina to fire their bows multiple times.

Multiple Arrows allows archers to quickly convert unused battle energy into multiplied combat power, preventing their battle energy from going to waste.

"I remember that the current Battanian archers have skills like Throwing, Running Shot, Charged Shot, Shadow Hand, Lock On, and Long Sight!" Rynar pondered.

The result made Rynar very annoyed. Aside from Shadow Hand, Lock On, and Charged Shot, which require battle energy, the others do not need it at all.

The combat power of the Battanian archers had barely been developed, and among that string of skills, it seemed only Charged Shot consumed much battle energy.

"It looks like I need to establish an Archer Temple!" Rynar searched within Riverguard for a suitable location to build it.

The skill inheritance statue can only be activated in a temple or a specific environment, and a temple would be the easiest and most convenient place.

As long as there's a spacious hall where a six-pointed star array can be carved and the inheritance statue placed within it, it can be activated.

Simple, straightforward, clear, convenient, and most importantly, cheap!

He had space available, and with a soil-type mage on hand, the work of building the temple and inscribing the magic patterns could easily be handled by Radir alone—there was no need to pursue other activation methods.

With that thought, Rynar called his bodyguard, Caslow, to notify the elder Radir to come for a meeting.

"Did I forget something?" Rynar looked at the somewhat crowded tent and pondered quietly.

"System! Check Riverguard!" Rynar shook his head, stopping his train of thought, feeling that he should look at the system page to see if he had missed anything.

Riverguard:

- Area: One square kilometer.

- Structures: A ruined lord's castle 1, shaky civilian homes 80, not very sturdy homes 20, intermediate magic-patterned city walls, stone wells, blacksmith shop, military camp.

Leaders:

- Caslow (Tier 3), Reynard (Tier 4), Radir (Tier 4).

Special Personnel:

- Aivy (Tier 3)

- Commander: Marcus (Tier 4)

- Administrative Officer: Lance (Tier 2)

- Military Strength: 2110

- Order of Dawn Knight: 100 Tier 2 Knights.

Zaltarion City Guards: 100 Tier 2 Warriors

Battanian Archers: 100 Tier 2 Archers.

Dunwenian Swordsmen: 100 Tier 2 Swordsmen.

Elaris Woods Rangers: 10 Tier 2 Rangers.

Rapid Infantry: 1500 Rapid Infantry.

Recruited Light Infantry: 200 Light Infantry.

Population: 894 (Trainable civilians: 183)

Evaluation: The lonely king leads the remaining citizens back to their homeland, establishing a city with tall walls. The city has few residents, but everything is moving in a good direction. The military strength of the city is formidable enough to defend it, but it cannot face the newly emerging darkness alone. The good news is that the city has finally welcomed its own city defense officer and administrative officer. Note: War has arrived, but the newly born king seems unprepared.

Abilities:

1. As the only territory of the Zaltarion Kingdom in Middle-earth, it will attract Zaltarion's exiles to come. The system will guide a wave of wandering Zaltarion civilians to arrive each day, hoping the lord can settle them properly.

2. Allows recruitment of local civilians to train as Rapid Infantry.

"Wow! Damn it… I actually forgot about the Elaris Woods Rangers in the south…" Rynar's forehead broke out in several black lines.

For monitoring whether the half-orcs had crossed the river, he had sent the Elaris Woods Rangers, acting as his personal guard, to establish a lookout in the south. Now that the war was about to break out, nobody had informed them…

"Uh, I've just been too busy… didn't get around to them," Rynar looked at Reynard, forcing out a few words, unwilling to admit that he had forgotten about this small troop of his.

"Pfft! Hahaha!" Vanervi couldn't help but burst out laughing at Rynar's flushed face. He was sure, based on the belief of the prairie elves, that Rynar had definitely forgotten about this troop.

"Sorry, couldn't hold it in… Hahaha!" Vanervi laughed again.

This quirky lord had actually managed to forget about his army, truly a breath of fresh air among lords!

He couldn't help but wonder what the rangers, sunburned and windblown, would think upon realizing they had been forgotten by their lord. The more he thought about it, the happier he became.

"Your Majesty, you really bring us new joy every day…" Reynard's expression twisted as he struggled to hold back laughter, clearly on the verge of bursting with internal injuries.

"Go ahead and laugh…" Rynar covered his face and leaned back in his chair, giving up on resisting.

Once they had finished their amusement, Rynar darkly instructed Reynard to send knights to recall the Elaris Woods Rangers.

After days of camping in the wind and rain, it was already tough enough; it was even more absurd to have forgotten about them…

"Radir, I have a task to assign to you!" Looking at the wizard Radir entering the tent, Rynar spoke with authority.

He hoped to have his archers learn the inheritance skill before the war began.

This way, with the help of the arrows rain produced by the Battanian archers, they would have significant advantages in both defense and counterattack.
