Almost two hours later, as the sun starts rising and lighting up the shore. One can find a pale boy with tattered rags searching and dismantling a shipwreck. In case you are as smart as a curly haired baboon you will know that the boy is me. Basically salvaging the nearby shipwreck.
And I am quite pleased. Some crates of unknown liquid survived the storm so I won't die of thirst too soon. Might provide a bit of nutrients too.
Unfortunately the fruits and biscuits were all soaked and inedible. I tried. Soggy moldy tack is no yummy yummy. Maybe I can use the rotten fruits as bait for some bird traps.
At least part of the shipwreck is anchored to the shore by some rocks and corals so it is anchored in a sense. And although upside down, I still can climb in and out of some rooms and one particular cabin has a relatively intact floor and roof. It will make do as a temporary shelter for now.
Unfortunately, I found almost no tools that I can use beside a few bent forks and broken mops. Even the knives in the kitchen are too rusted or grown with barnacles and are too brittle to use as a weapon.
Maybe I can melt them into something useful? In the future I guess.
How do you make a forge from scratch again? I should hoard metallic stuff for now...
After exploring and tidying up the wreck into a makeshift shelter, I armed myself with a fork and some ropes and stood on the highest point in the ship. Which ironically is the bottom of the ship as it has flipped upside down when it washed ashore.
Time to explore!
As I looked at the jungle inland, the hairs on my neck stood up as I saw yellow catlike eyes staring back at me from the shadows. Futher inspection revealled a silhouette about the size of a suv.
The fuck is that! That beast will eat me and use my leg bone as a toothpick. Fuck exploring! Never gonna leave my shelter!!!
Fortunately for me whatever the giant beastly fuck it is, they seemed to enjoy staying semi hidden in the leaves. And after a while it retreated further in the jungle.
Is it because it is an ambush predator? So it'll wait till I am relaxed then...
BAM!
Me-sized dinner!
So I decided to futher fortify my fortress of shipwreck-iness further with planks, driftwood and pebbles. Tying them with rags and ropes that used to be parts of the ship. And weighing some section down with stones.
Honestly if the beast is as strong as I think it is, my shelter will simply be a minor annoyance.
But what else can I do? At least this makes me feel slightly safer...
After the strenuous activity lasting all the way till the evening, I took a bottle of wine? Rum? Whatever is in the crate and chugged everything down.
Tastes like vomit with sugar but whatever gets me drunk...
I laid down on my makeshift bed made of some wet, soiled fabric layered one on top of another and went off to lala land~
At least if the beast enters the shelter and eat me I'll be too drunk and asleep to feel it...
***
I live!! I'm alive!
Slept like a log and what do you know? I did not get eaten!
I also found that I have... what do you call it? Digest. Yeah. I have slightly digested my potion. Guess all that work with fortifying my makeshift shelter had some effect. And maybe surviving the night also helped? Hooray!
Fuck the acting method.
I'm a real castaway!
Just need a coconut to act as my best friend now and I'll fully digest my potion in a jiffy.
Wonder where I'll get the potion recipe for the next sequence though...
I climbed out of my shelter, a cabin in an upside down boat and was met by the glare of sunshine. It was scorching hot, I could even see some mirage forming from the heated air.
I looked at my pale hand and actually still felt pretty comfortable.
Huh. I would usually be sweating bucketfuls in this kind of heat, but I guess this body is quite sturdy. Or is it part of my beyonder power?
Anyway I should scout the area to see if any animals approached nearby.
Standing on high ground, I took a look around, paying particular focus on the sandy ground to look out for any footprints or disturbed area.
Huh. Everything looks pristine. Wonder why no animals get out from the jungle onto the sandy area. Not a single pebble disturbed.
As I thought about walking futher inland towards the dry part of the sand my spirituality warned me!
Danger!
Wha? Why is my spirituality telling me to stay in the wet areas? Is it a side effect of my beyonder status? I'm addicted to water or something?
I sat down cross-legged and meditated for a while. Maybe it would dispell some madness away? After reaching a state of calm, I once again decided to walk towards the drier area and my spirituality warned me once again.
Huh. It's still hard to decide if I am losing control or the dry sands are actually dangerous...
After contemplating for a while more, my glorious IQ came up with a cunning plan.
I tossed a couple of items from the wreck into the dry sands. Driftwood, a couple of pebbles, even an empty bottle.
They landed on the sand and... nothing happened!
Just to be cautious I kept paying attention to the discarded items from a distance for quite a while.
They're all still there... On the ground... They're not sinking like it's quicksand and nothing woke up and ate them...
So I guess this is a side effect of my pathway? I am afraid of dry land?
I looked away from the tossed item and stared out into the sea further from the shallows. The waves beneath felt like it hid monstrous aquatic lifeform that will slowly drown me before having me for breakfast.
Fuck! Everything feels so scary.
Still much safer to explore the island then go out to sea...
I looked back at the tossed item and chills crawled the back of my neck.
Where the fuck was the stuff I tossed there? And why is the sand back to being smooth? There isn't even any indentation where the items used to be!
Fuck me sideways... It's not a beyonder side effect! That area is just fucking evil or something! My spirituality was right in warning me!
Wait.. If I can't explore inland, I won't have food to eat. But if I go there, who knows what will happen to me. Will I get teleported to some random place? Or get eaten by the sands or whatever is under it?
Does that mean that I'll starve to death?
As my panicked thoughts increased, whispers started to appear. Initially they were quite soft so I did not notice them but as my fear increased so did the volume of the whispers.
After registering in my mind that my ears were somehow picking up voices in the air I was initially stunned.
Am i 'losing control'?
After a while I forced myself to calm down and try to make out what the whispers were saying. They were mostly unintelligible rambling but I caught a few words I understood.
*Swim...*
*See... *
*DEVOUR...*
Huh. That's not inauspicious at all.
I lampooned.
I looked at the shore.
At least the in shallow parts the water is clear enough to see the bottom.
After a few minutes of searching I noticed some red and dark green colors jutting out of an underwater boulder.
Seaweed! I've read that they are all edible.
***
After a couple minuted of wading in knee deep water, I arrived at where the seaweed was.
It looked like any boring old seaweed I've seen. I plucked out a couple handfuls and wade back to the shipwreck.
After washing them in the seawater to get rid of sand and dirt, I bit off a mouthful and started to chew.
Sea salad. Huh. Some parts are actually crispy. Its salty. I guess that makes sense, I did wash it with seawater...
After filing my stomach with a healthy meal and washing it down with some mystery alcohol, I went back and forth for a bit more towards the shallow waters to stockpile more seaweed for rations.
After half the day scounging and unable to find more seaweed near the shipwreck I took a small break and contemplated further.
At least food is temporarily solved. So I just have to figure out how to escape this island and move to civilization.
With Arthur's memory he died at the year 1313 at the fifth epoch. I still have a couple of decades to grow stronger before Klein transmigrates over.
The sooner I get to civilization the sooner I can try to advance my sequence and hopefully get strong enough for the apocalypse.
I guess I need to prepare to make fire and smoke to signal to passing ships? Lots of wood and fabric here... Should be possible... Just have to make sure they are dry...
*Lightning flashed and thunder cracked across the sky.*
In some form of cosmic joke... The weather instantly turned into heavy storms that would last for weeks. It became near impossible to start a fire with the moist air...
