Chapter 7

“C’mon,” Jared said, pulling David from his reverie. “Let’s do this.”

David looked at Jared’s smiling face and followed.

By the time David was ready to leave Sunday morning, he felt better. Mr. Acosta had been pleasant all weekend. He had shown David around the house and taken them all out for dinner the next night. Perhaps Jared was right. Maybe Jared’s father would come to understand their relationship.

“Look, you don’t have to have that conversation with your parents,” Jared said, placing David’s bag in his backseat Sunday morning. “I was just being a jerk.”

“Okay,” David said. “I guess it can wait.”

“I want to kiss you,” Jared whispered, looking around the driveway.

“I know,” David said, sitting down in the driver’s seat, and nodding his head. “But you’re not going to, are you? Not a good time, huh?”

Jared nodded his head, and closed David’s car door.
