Light Magus of Deception

In the near future, people realized that they are able to harness a new type of energy, mana. Slowly, magic became prevalent in everyday life. Being the son of well established doctors, Flynn was half forced to choose healing magic. As mages become more and more powerful, Flynn wasn't happy with the way normal humans were treated. Trying to help the non-mages, he felt like he was involved with a much larger and sinister plot. Disclaimer: Flynn is not a completely good person, he can sometimes be petty and toxic. Extra chapter for every 5 power stones.

As the two blades clashed, sparks flew everywhere. Frank, who was quite the skilled swordsman, deactivated his spell. Flynn lost his balance since he put his center of mass on the blade. Slamming his kneecaps into Flynn's chest, Frank sent Flynn tumbling onto the ground. He slashed down with another crystallized blade he formed instantly, preparing to end the battle.

"Anesthesia," Flynn casted, a pink gas instantly spilled out of his palms, forming a large cloud of paralyzing fog. Frank recognizing the spell, stopped his assault midway. With a wave of his hand, crystals formed around his nose and mouth, blocking out the poisonous mist. "Crystal shard," casted Frank, a translucent crystalline blade flew towards Flynn. Enhancing his arms with mana, he blocked the incoming attack with his forearms. The crystalline blade dug deep into his skin, tearing open his flesh. Clench his teeth, he activated Invigorate, the wound closing at a visible rate. Shattering into dust, the small shards of crystal sparkled under the light.

"Scalpel," Flynn casted again, trying find Frank's weak spot. However, even if he created an opening, his Scalpel still failed to pierce through the crystals that covered Frank's skin. "Switch!" Flynn yelled, trying to see if anyone could take on Frank.

Kevin was doing worse than he originally anticipated. Ben was a mage who could still perform well even without using his Media. The compressed blades of invisible air were impossible for Kevin to absorb. Without some sort of energy to fuel his Conversion magic, Kevin was useless. He was fighting a losing battle. So when he heard Flynn's call for help, he instantly replied. "I'll switch," he yelled back, releasing the last bit of mana at Ben in the form of a fire blast. Creating a small vacuum, the fire blast was snuffed out instantly. Within this short window of time, the two quickly swapped opponents.

The Acid mage, who had no idea of the two slithering robots of death, was focusing on depleting the mutated plant's seemingly infinite vitality. As he created another blob of green, corrosive acid, he suddenly felt something tug his ankles. Before he could react, he lost his balance. The two serpents instantly coiled around him, choking him unconscious. Taking down their target, the two snakes instantly crept towards Ben, who was fighting Flynn.

Even with Scalpel activated, Flynn could barely hold his ground against Ben. Ben was holding his plasma cutter in one hand, the blaster in his other. He paired his slashes with blasts of mana, dealing a considerable amount of damage to Flynn. Invigorate constantly active, wounds still slowly piled on Flynn. "I hate pay to win players," Flynn complained, as a burning ray of mana scraped his ribs. In his peripheral vision, he saw Brian's two robots slowly slithering towards Ben. He instantly engaged Ben, trying to diverge his attention. Ben focused on Flynn, his attacks getting faster and faster, dying Flynn's clothes red. Seeing a large opening, Ben furrowed his brows. The opening seemed to be a trap, but in that position, Flynn definitely couldn't counter in time. Deciding to take the risk, he chose to attack.

Seeing that Ben fell for his scheme, Flynn tried very hard to maintain his pokerface. Brian grinned, controlling the snakes to lunge at Ben's blindspots. Slashing down, Ben aimed for Flynn's shoulder. But before his plasma blade met Flynn's flesh, his expressions suddenly changed. He felt a sudden disturbance in the air around him, something was coming for him with incredible speed. "Updraft," he casted immediately, lifting him up into the sky. "Damn it," Flynn cursed, seeing that Ben somehow predicted the attack. "Must be one of those dumb spells that allows them to monitor the surrounding air," Flynn thought, they were so close to taking Ben down.

"Strike him down," Josh ordered his plant. Without the Acid mage constantly pestering it, the mutated plant regained it vitality. Three thick vines shot out, aiming at Ben, who was falling from the sky. "Wind Blade," Ben casted, trying to mow down the vines before it could get to him. But unlike Scalpel, which was designed to deal with organic materials, the compressed blades of air failed to even cut through the vines, only leaving a small tear. A bubble of mana appeared, protecting Ben. The vines wrapped around the bubble, slamming it onto the ground. Blood dripped from Ben's mouth as the force from the impact traveled through his body. The vines coiled around the barrier, slowly getting tighter and tighter. Although the went out of shape, it still held its integrity. Rushing towards Kevin, Josh yelled, "Take down the barrier."

Abandoning his opponent, Kevin rushed towards the entrapped Ben. Frank tried to stop him, but a large pincer stopped him in his tracks. It was Josh, with one hand shapeshifted into a claw. The pincer rammed into Frank, shattering a layer of the crystalline armor. Frank slashed at the hard exoskeleton, but his blade shattered as the claw clamped down on it.

Flynn retreated towards Drew, who was still lying on the ground because of the earlier explosion. His arm bent in a weird angle, Flynn knew that Drew was definitely in pain. With blood still dripping from his wounds, Flynn knelt down to help Drew. "Anesthesia," Flynn casted, numbing Drew's pain. Drew felt a warm glow envelope his whole body, his fractured bones were healing at an incredible rate. He stood up with shaking legs, his limbs still numb from the anesthesia. Flynn however, lost consciousness due to the loss of blood and excessive usage of mana.

Kevin, arriving in front of Ben's mana barrier, grinned. Finally! An energy source he could absorb! Pressing his palms onto the thin film of mana, he began to absorb the barrier. Ben, suddenly felt his Medium tremble, as if something was draining its energy. "That's weird. Physical attacks shouldn't drain the barrier with such speeds," Ben thought, not understanding why his barrier was depleting so quickly. He couldn't deactivate the barrier, since the vines would definitely just crush him. Kevin was surprised by the energy contained within the thin membrane of mana. He was almost at his limits, but the barrier seemed to be still holding its shape. "Energy Conversion, Kinetic," he casted, as his other palm began to tremble. Pressing his shaking palm onto the barrier, his arms instantly fractured, sending him tumbling back. The barrier also shattered, it could withstand the sudden force equivalent to a whole plane ramming into it. The force was also highly concentrated, so it definitely wasn't a surprise that it managed to penertrate the barrier. Imagine the force of a crashing plane, with enough force to create a large crater, focused on a single point.

The vines instantly constricted around Ben, wrapping around him. The only person left on Ben's team that was still standing was Frank, and frankly, he wasn't doing too well. The pincer's overbearing mass and strength proved to be very effective against his crystals, acting like a large hammer smashing through ice. Seeing that he was the only one left, he surrendered immediately.

The fight ending, Josh instantly went over to help Flynn, who was lying on the ground unconscious. The coach also handed Josh a vitality potion, which paired with Invigorate, could instantly get Flynn back into decent shape. Kevin also drank a healing potion, since one of his arms was crippled. Regaining his consciousness in a matter of seconds, Flynn's eyes fluttered before he completely woke up. "So where's the rewards?" Flynn asked immediately, as if that was the only thing that he cared about. The coach handed each of them a small disk, a grade one Medium.

Tossing the disk like it was coin, Flynn wondered what it could be. His mana flowing into the disk, it activated. It wasn't a cool blaster or a powerful plasma cutter, just a simple stick. "What in the world is this?" Flynn exclaimed, not impressed at all with the reward. "It's a baton, can't you tell?" Josh said. "Of course I can see its a baton! I'm just... nevermind," Flynn sighed. He had unrealistic expectations, a baton was good enough. "Try inputting mana into the Medium, I think you'll be quite surprised," the coach reminded them to test out the Medium's special function. Not having any expectations, Flynn inputted some mana into the baton. It instantly doubled in length, turning into a staff. Flynn's eyes instantly lit up, a weapon that could change in size! He tried to control the amount of mana he inputted, and he was pleasantly surprised that the baton could become as large as a pillar and as small as a chopstick. Twirling the chopstick sized Medium in his hand, he was actually quite satisfied with the reward, but that could not be said for his other teammates.

"This is useless," Brian said, stuffing the disk into his pockets. "This could sell for quite a bit," Drew said, inspecting the Medium. "I guess this could be a good fidget tool," Kevin shrugged, the baton extending and retracting in his hand. "I don't really know how to use weapons," Josh said, already accustomed to just ordering his mutated plant to easily overwhelming his enemies. "If you don't like it, you could give them to me," Flynn said.
