Trick and treat

"Which room is he in by the way?"

"Ohh 107 , next floor right next to the stairs."

"Is he awake or?"

"No, he should be unconscious for now. Do you want to meet him or…?"

"I'll go take a look, and you..go do your job as soon as possible and not a word bout me to anyone."

"I'll prepare and do it right away."

After giving the last of instructions to the doctor Ali turned around and started going towards Kevin's room. After all, he needed to take a look at Kevin's status to see how much more this guy was worth.

Looking at the sleeping protagonist wrapped in bandages Ali clicked his tongue and sighed to himself.

"Boss, you're here." Charlie, who was sitting in the lobby keeping an eye on Kevin's room noticed Ali and came to talk to him.

Ali looked at him and nodded his head, "Good job on the accident. Keep it up."

Hearing the praise, Charlie just smiled and replied "It's easy, back when I was in the gangs I did all kinds of 'accidents'. If any day you have similar tasks just give the order. I can even make sure this guy never leaves this hospital."

Ali chuckled seeing the enthusiasm but shook his head, "No, no more accidents. But I do have an order."

"Tell me."

"... … …"

As Ali finished his command, Charlie remembered it and though confused a little, he still nodded his head and promised to do his best.

"Don't do it yourself, hire someone else to act the part." Ali said and after taking a final glance at Kevin, walked away.

'System, show me all his details.'

[[Name - Kevin Harper Wells.]

[Role - Protagonist.]

[Goldfinger - Wishing heart.]

[Type/Trope - Wish fulfillment, Urban hero, Rags to riches, Harem king, Act pig eat tiger, Face slapping badshah…...]

[Destiny - Golden , Doomed.]

[Luck - ̶1̶0̶0̶0̶0̶0 / 10169 ]

{System note - luck value counter is a function only available for the protagonist.}

"Motherfucker got quite a few fancy titles." Ali said, shaking his head at the rows upon rows of title tropes.

"What's up with his destiny?"

[It was golden before, but now it's doomed.]

"Well, I didn't even know there was a category called doomed? What does it mean?"

[It means you're fucked, abso-fucking-lutely fucked.]

"And you wouldn't happen to know why our dear protagonist has that destiny, would you?"

[Your authority is too low to listen that news.]

"Figured." Ali said and didn't ponder on it any further.

Bad for Kevin was good for him , so if there's something beyond doomed, that works well too.

"The fuck." Ali couldn't help but curse as he stared at those zeroes behind his luck. "System, did you add one or two zeroes by mistake buddy. Cause they're… one, ten, hundred, thousand - a thousand times more than what normal dudes have."

[Get your math straight.]

[His luck is barely in ten thousands, that's a cheap son of destiny for you.]

"Still that's a freaking lot. I only have one fifth of him."

[Well, he's a protagonist. Cheaper, but protagonist nonetheless.]

[Plus his luck was even less before it's slowly recovering nowadays, so you better be serious and start sniping him soon, or maybe in a couple of months he'd be back at top of his game.]

Ali was walking while chatting with his system in his head, when just around the corner a girl appeared out of nowhere. And they ended up colliding.

"Shit _ sorry_ fuck." The girl said, instinctively raising her arms high, causing whatever medicines she was holding to fall down on the floor. Causing her words of apology to instantly revert in a curse.

"Walking in blind, are you?" Ali said, chuckling at the airhead who had a lost expression staring at the shattered glass and pills scattered on the ground. Along with a box of food she brought.

Hearing someone calling her, Kiara, who was about to bend and pick up the pills stopped and looked up. "It's you…" she said with a surprised expression and a smile as she recognized him.

"Careful there." Ali said, pulling her in before she stumbled and fell down the stairs behind her.

"Sorry," Kiara cursed, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she let go of him and steady herself.

"What're you doing here?" Ali asked, helping her picking up all the stuff she dropped.

"My brother, he had an accident and is admitted here." Kiara replied.

"Everything alright?"

"Yeah, he's fine now. Just resting." Kiara replied, still looking at that one bottle which broke in pieces with a distressed expression.

"Come, let's go to the shop together."

"What, no, that's not _ necessary." She hurriedly shook her head and replied, thinking he misunderstood, "I was just worried about the glass, you know someone might walk over and get hurt."

"Nurse," Ali called for a nurse walking by and stopped her. "My friend here dropped something, can you call someone and get this cleaned, please."

The nurse who was going back to her work with a tired face, frowned and wanted to cuss when someone interrupted her, but after seeing Ali's face and clothes, she stopped and changed her tone to a flattering one instantly. "Yeah, sure. I_I'll do it right away." She said, before hurriedly walking away, after taking another glance at him.

"There, all settled now." Ali said, taking her hand and leading her to the lift at the side which was made just for old guys and crippled patients.

"Wait, I need to…" Kiara wanted to say something but then the lift's door closed and it started going down. "I needed to take these medicines to my brother."

"Just buy the one you dropped, and then give him all together." Ali replied.

"That's not…"

"Your brother, he's quite a troublemaker right?" Ali said, interrupting her again and changing the topic.

"What do you mean?" Kiara asked in a sour tone.

"I mean you said he got into a fight with some goons last time and now this accident, seems like he's always _ busy."

"It's not his fault. Probably some drunk driver." Kiara explained. Not letting anyone say something bad about her brother.

"Well, if you say so." Ali replied, shrugging his shoulders. He wanted to tell her about the blackmailing his ex and sneaking into girls' dorm story too, but then let it go, thinking it'll be too much.

"How's work by the way? Nat's not too strict on you, is she?" He asked, changing the topic as they left the lift and walked towards the medical shop.

"No, she's fine, nice I mean." Kiara replied, remembering her new boss, "Thanks for that. I wanted to tell you that sooner, but then I never saw you at the company again."

"No biggie. You're good at your job by the way, Nat praised you a little few days back."

"She did?" Kiara asked feeling surprised.

"Nah, just kidding." Ali replied with a chuckle, causing her to glare at him.

"So what were you doing here?" Kiara asked, as they waited in line.

"Following you."

"..."

"Kidding, I had an accident too you know, just came for a routine check up." Ali explained, pointing at his chest after seeing her surprised expression.

"Hmm, does that _ still hurt?"

"It's healing." Ali replied, slapping her hand which was rising to touch his nonexistent injury.

"Ignore that, you ate something?"

"What_.."

"Dinner, you dropped that too, remember." Ali said, before pointing at a small restaurant nearby. "Let's go there, I'm starving."

"Wait, I need to.."

"You can take for your brother too. I'm sure he'll be hungry by now too." Ali replied and started walking ahead.

Kiara stood there for a few seconds and after a little hesitation and a bunch of thoughts that only she knew, she followed him too.

"It's your treat by the way." Ali said, raising his hand to stop her when they reached the edge of a crossroad.

"What_why?"

"What do you mean why? You don't think you'll just say thank you for a promotion and that's it, right. I, at least deserve a dinner."

"Fine."

"Why're you so salty, you know girls can line up from here to the capital to eat with me."

"Yeah. Why don't you call them then."

"cause you're more fun."

"..."

"What do you like by the way?"

"...."

"Just asking about food." He said and smiled "But if you wanna talk about something else then I'm fine with that too."

"No wonder you couldn't get a girl." Kiara replied, reminding him of the rumors regarding the famous licking dog.

"Hey, no need for personal attacks."

"Sorry," Kiara replied with a sneaky smile and hurriedly changed the topic.. "Here, order whatever you want. My treat."

"You said it."

"…"

(Why do I feel I shouldn't have done that? He's not gonna empty my wallet, is he?)

"Come on, how long are you gonna keep staring at that bill." Ali said, snatching the piece of paper, this silly girl had been holding in her hands like a treasure.

"I'm never treating you for anything." Kiara said, still counting the strings of zeroes she saw.

Ali just chuckled and threw it away. "Well, let's go for the dessert."

"Don't wanna."

"You can get some sweets, ice cream.. a glass of juice." Ali said and started walking. "You look like a juice girl by the way."

"....Your treat." Kiara said and started walking towards the next shop, giving a side glance at the juice shop sneakily before speeding away.

While Ali was busy laughing and walking with Kiara, Kevin on the other hand frowned and woke up from his coma, and grabbed his chest in pain.

"Where am I?"

It took a moment for him to realize where he was and sort out his memories and he hurriedly tried to stand up when he remembered that his sister was hurt and hospitalized. Throwing away the bandages and injections filling him up, he tried to stand up, but as soon as his feet touched the ground, his body couldn't handle the weight and the high amount of pain, as he screamed and fell down to the floor.

"Wh_what _ my _ my leg… no no no, it can't be. I can't be.. God, no." He hurriedly tried to feel his leg, but due to high dosage of anesthesia and other medicines that numbed his senses, he couldn't feel anything and started crying.

"I_ I… it can't be , I can't be a cripple." he said and tried to stand up again, but failed and fell down to the ground this time too.

He was just about to give in to despair and keep crying over it, when he heard someone laughing and saw a shadow behind the door, talking to someone on the phone.

The door was slightly open so Kevin could hear what the man was saying after crawling a little forward.

"Hehehe, boss don't worry about it. The kid's useless and a cripple now. If he dares come close to miss Meher again, we'll just break his other leg too, ahahhaha. Then see how he fights while crawling like a worm. Ahahhaha"

The man laughed and cut the call before calling someone else and saying the same things all over again, except this time he didn't mention Meher but talked about some election and rally or something.

Kevin tried to crawl forward and see the man's face, but just then something dropped from his feet, alarming the nurse and wardboy outside who rushed in a hurry.

"Is he fine?"

"Help him to the bed first."

"You, call doctor Mishra."

They kept talking and shouting and by the time Kevin looked back, the shadow had long disappeared, leaving him with clenched fists and gritting teeth, heart filled with an unquenchable thirst for anger and vengeance.

"Damn you bastards, I know who you are, just wait, when I'm fine, I'll kill you all."

"As for that bastard who hit me, I wish he get squashed under a truck too."
