Prologue

My name is Imai Akuma, and I'm an ordinary citizen from Japan. I work a average 9-5 job and earn an average salary. Although some people might say my job title in on the non-ordinary side, I'm basically a programmer.

My life has been on cycle for the past five years. I wake up at 6 (AM) and start eating breakfast. Then I go to work. After work, I return home to eat dinner, shower, and kill time by playing on my computer. Lastly, I'll go to sleep by 9 (PM). This schedule has been on repeat for the last five years.

I do wish something exciting would happen as it does for others. I have no romantic experience or friends. My social level is pretty much at the bottom. Life has been this way all my life. The only exciting thing that ever happened was the day I got out of college. Right as graduated, I instantly founded a job from a top corporation and left home to start working.

Nevertheless, today is another ordinary day. Right now, I'm eating my dinner that I got from a restaurant on my way home from work. After finishing it, I took a shower and wasted time on my computer. It is now about time for me to go to bed. I start to turn off my PC when an email notification pops up.

'You have one new email from an unknown sender.'

Huh? That's weird.

See, I customized my email system so that it would put any unknown senders into a folder and mutes it. I did this so that I could block out any scammers; however, this one got through. Well, it doesn't look like a scam, so I guess I'll open it.

Upon opening it, a simple questionnaire appears.

'If you were sent to another world, what powers would you want?'

Huh? Why would someone send this? I mean, the question is full of crap. Everyone knows that magic isn't real, and traveling between worlds is impossible, but... If I ever did get transported to another world and asked this, I would already have some answers so I wouldn't waste any time.

I was about to start brainstorming when text at the bottom of the page catches my attention.

'For this question, your answer must fit a ten-point system. As you type your answers, the system will automatically convert your answers into points. You must have a total of ten points, no more, no less.'

Okay, a little weird. So, what should I put? Oh, I did had something I would want as a power! I always wanted to fly and teleport around. Yeah, I'll put those!

I was about to start typing when I realized that this was an email, so there wasn't any room to type out answers. Hmm... Maybe replying to be the same? Guess I'll try.

I click on the reply button and type 'teleportation' and press the enter button. Then, the text I just typed change before my eyes.

'The ability to teleport at any distance (2 points).'

Two points, huh? Doesn't that seem expensive? Well, it does say at any distance... I guess it's correct. Okay, I'll try flying next.

I begin to type 'flying' and press enter. The text changes again.

'The ability to fly (1 point).'

Okay, seven points remaining. Now, what should I add? Well, I should have some type of skill to defend myself, but what? Oh! Don't most games have debuffs that inflict the player with adverse effects? What if I could be immune to those debuffs. Yes, I like this idea! I start to type 'full immunity.'

'The ability to be immune to all effects' (3 points).'

Three points? Isn't that a bit expensive if I'm comparing the other two? Well, I did ask for full immunity. I guess that makes sense. Okay, I'm somewhat defended. Now all I need is something to attack with.

Wait, what if the world has magic? I would be pissed if I couldn't use magic in a magical world. Maybe it is a good idea to add it to this list? I start typing...

'The ability to have an immense magic aptitude (1 point)'

Nice? Does magic aptitude mean to have the potential of casting magic? I'm not sure, but I hope so. Next... Oh, duh! In games, they use magic to cast magic. If I have the potential to use magic, but my mana is shit, then this would be obsolete. I start typing.

'The ability to have immense magic capacities (1.5 points)'

One and a half points? I guess having high potential is worthless if your mana sucks... If magic capacities even is another name for mana, can't tell.

Nevertheless, I have 1.5 points left. Now what? Hmm... Oh, since I lack social skills, it would be hard for me to get anyone to teach me magic. What if I could gain all the knowledge about magic at once? Eh... Now that I think about it, that might cost too many points. What if I switch it into having them in digital form?

Yeah, I'll do that. I start typing...

'The ability to have all knowledge that is related to magic in the form of mental books (0.5 points).'

Huh? Why is knowledge only half a point!? Man, someone doesn't know that knowledge is power. Whatever, at least I have a point free. Wait, if that was half a point, how many points would it be to know already in magic? Eh, I should move on...

Okay, so I have one point left. I guess I could use it on customizing my appearance. Sure, why not? I'll use what I typically use for my game characters. I begin typing...

'Having blue hair (1/3 of a point).'

'Having one blue and one brown color eyes (1/3 of a point).'

'Having a blue-colored trenchcoat style outfit (1/3 of a point).'

That should do it. I think I did pretty well. Time to send it, I guess. I moved the cursor to the send button and clicked it. As I did, I saw a glimpse of text under the text at the bottom.

'Generated additional powers: Increase in speed, strength, senses, and agility.'

I couldn't understand why or what it meant, but I ignore it since this questionnaire doesn't matter.

"Yawn!"

Oh, man, am I sleepy. Shit! It's 12 (AM). I need to hurry and get to bed for that meeting later today. I turned off my PC and went straight to bed.

The moment I enter my bed, my body twitched. I could sense something different in the atmosphere. I ignore this feeling and fell asleep. There shouldn't be anything to worry about... Right?

This is an updated, redone chapter. This occurred on 7/20 and will take time to redo all the other chapters! Sorry but I hope that you will love the changes!
