After The Commissions

"Oh, welcome back. So, how did it go," the receptionist asked, looking at them with a smile.

Not saying anything, Ian put the basket before pushing it for the man to check himself.

"Let us see, 10 Light Grass, check. 5 Horned Rabbits, also check. And, bunch of magic core," the man looked at him in amazement.

"And this too," Ian gave a small block of wood, shaped into a feather. "The village elder gave it to us when we met with him and gave him our report,"

For subjugation commissions, after dealing with the monsters, the adventurers who take the commissions must meet with the commissioner and claim a token. That token can be anything but it must be something the Adventure Guild knew of, to avoid some adventurers fabricating the token.

The token will have some marks, of course, that is agreed upon by the Adventure Guild, just for extra assurance, in case the adventures in question is an expert in forging the tokens in question. There had been cases in the past after all.

The two, after defeating the pod of slime, had walked towards the village. It was not too far but not too near either, maybe about 500 meters from where they are.

After confirming some things as well as showing the proof and telling the elder the exact location of the fight, only then did they get the token in question.

"So, you actually finished your first subjugation commission on your first day," the man said in awe.

"Like I said, we have some encounters with slimes before," more like Kell's encounter, the other boy wanting to take a dump only to meet with a trio of slime.

Thankfully for him, his sword was nearby, allowing him to cut the slimes with ease. However, from that moment, he has always looked around in the woods just to avoid similar mishaps from happening again.

"Good, gathering 10 Light Grass, each worth about 10 copper coins, plus the commissions worth about 30 copper coins, so the total for that will be 80 coins.

The hunting Horned Rabbits commissions are 175 copper coins, each Horned Rabbit worth about 25 copper coins, and the commissions itself worth 50 copper coins.

Then the subjugation of the slime pod. 8 slimes worth about 240 copper coins and the commissions worth about 100 copper coins.

So all of that will be 595 copper coins. However, you can exchange 100 copper coins for a silver coin. So, would you like to exchange it?" the man asked.

Ian gave it a thought before nodding, "Yes, we like to exchange the copper coins for silver coins. And also, what is the rent of lodging around here?"

-x-

"Seriously, the rent is outrageous," Ian complained, the two decided to head to a famous tavern for a late lunch, or an early dinner.

The price of a single bowl of stew is 10 copper coins, each. However, with only bread and soup for dinner and breakfast, they paid for it just to get good food in their belly.

"Not too shabby," Kell said to him, Ian nodding in agreement. They already used 20 copper coins for a single meal but it is so worth it.

"Yes, should we stay there for the time being or should we rent a room, or maybe stay at an inn?" Ian asked Kell, who shrugged.

"You know I am no good with this kind of stuff so I am letting you decide. I know you will choose the best for us," he told Ian, who shook his fondly.

"But seriously, a day's stay is worth about 1 silver coin, if it is a month I would have agreed with it, no dice. Then again, the room in question has a bathroom for us to clean ourselves.

Surprisingly, this world has plumbing, at least for a medium-tier town so far," Ian said, a bit surprised by how a world that has a medieval kind of felt had plumbing.

He could only attribute it to magic or the science of this world is more advanced than he thought.

"Let's rent the room then. Besides, the place is close to the Adventure Guild,"

-x-

"So this is the place, not too big, but not small either. Not to mention there is a bathroom," Ian commented, looking around the room. While he would not say it out loud, he was satisfied with the place.

"So, you want to rent this room?" surprisingly, the receptionist was the one to greet them and showcase the room for them.

Then again, this is one of the buildings the Adventure Guilds owned. They wanted to offer a place for adventurers to stay if they did not have any place to stay. The prices are usually more expensive than your run-of-the-mill inn, but the facility and size make it worth the price.

Usually, only the more well-off adventurers would rent the room offered by the Adventure Guild while those not so fortunate stay at an inn or have to camp outside to cut off expenses.

"Yes, here are the coins for 3 days' stay," Ian gave the man 3 silver coins. It is something they decided. They would rent the room for three days before deciding it is worth it to rent the room for longer.

Not to mention, they planned to buy some more equipment for themselves, namely a rucksack and a knife. If they have enough, they going to buy a wooden shield for Kell so he can tank the attack and avoid unnecessary injuries.

"Here are the keys. If you want to stay longer, you could always come and see me," the receptionist told them before leaving the room.

Not saying a word, Ian lies on the bed, clearly happy to not be sleeping on a floor anymore. Besides him, Kell seems to be the same, finding the bed comfortable. While it could not be compared to what they were used to in their previous life, at least it is much better than a floor.

"Are we going to take more commissions tomorrow?" Kell asked.

"Hmm. Not tomorrow. We should go buy some other things like a shield for you, and a rucksack and a knife to make things easier to carry. And bought some clothes in case we need to wrap dead creatures again.

"That's the plan for the morning or maybe afternoon. After that, I am going to the library and learning more about this town and the forest, along with the kingdom if I have the time," Ian told him.

"In that case, I probably take some commissions in the afternoon. Hunting Horned Rabbits or Slimes would allow me to train myself, and give us more money for our stay," Kell decided.

"Alright, but be careful. We don't have an extra life or something like that,"

"Alright your worrywart, I'll be careful,"
