Chapter Fifty Five.

Zawadi and Lucas sat patiently in court listening to the ongoing case. It was hard for them both, just the mention of the baby brought back so many memories.

Zawadi watched as her mother was called to the witness stand. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as if to prepare herself for her mother's lies.

"Mrs Mwamba, could you tell the court exactly what happened on 14th March 2020" the lawyer spoke.

"Of course. On that day, I woke up as usual, did my daily duties before I decided to pay a visit to my daughter. I mean she is, I mean was, expectant so I just wanted to see her. You know to check on her" she said feigning innocence.

Zawadi looked down, anger rising in her. Of course Lisa would lie about what exactly happened. To be honest she hadn't expected her to tell exactly what happened that day, but still, she didn't expect her to twist the events like she did.

"When I got there I saw Zawadi trying to get up the stairs, however she was struggling. So I decided to lend her a hand. Suddenly she just slipped and tumbled down.

It was all so sudden I couldn't move fast enough to help her. I felt so sad, so helpless. In fact, I still feel guilty to date because I couldn't save the life of my grand child. " she said wiping her crocodile tears.

Lucas looked at Lisa in disbelief. He had expected her to lie, to twist that facts but not to stoop this low. He turned to Zawadi who had her head lowered. He tugged her closer to his body in an attempt to comfort her.

He understood how important parents are to the life of a child. And he knew, that no matter how old Zawadi was, she still waited for her parents to love her, to show her that they cared even in the slightest bit.

But she had been disappointed on every turn. She had been disappointed when they had told her that she was dead to them. She got even more disappointed when they proceeded to make her life life hell.

And taking away what she treasured the most...

She would never let it go. She was a kind woman. The most caring and loving but even she had a limit.

And Lucas could tell that she was close to hers. She would want to make them pay, and when the time came, he would let her exact get revenge any way she knew fit.

"You may go back to your seat Mrs Mwamba " The lawyer said.

Lisa got back to her seat beside her husband, she gave Zawadi a triumphant grin as she sat herself down.

Zawadi kept her gaze on Lisa, she wanted to see that she still cared. She hoped to see a hint of guilt in her eyes, of sorrow or something else.

Anything that would show her that she still had a mother, that there was still hope.

But she didn't find it. Her eyes held so much hatred for her just staring at Lisa made her heart clench.

But none of it matter, she is a mother too. Before being a mother, she is a daughter, but when you no longer have parents, then you consider the next relationship, being a mother.

And what mother would she be if she failed to avenge her child.

"Zawadi Mwamba please step on the witness stand" The lawyer said pulling Zawadi out of her thoughts.

"Miss Mwamba, would you please tell the court what happened on the 14th of March 2020?" the lawyer spoke.

"I was on my way to my room when Lisa here barged in. She came to demand that I abort the baby. That it would ruin her husband's image if I didnt..."she began

"Would you tell the court what your relationship with Mr and Mrs Mwamba is? "

"They are my parents " she answered.

"Then why would your own mother demand that you have an abortion? "

"She believes that I am a whore' excuse my language your honour. Her words not mine. You see when I was a child I was kidnapped from home and I ended up in the care of a woman named Ahana, she ran a brothel. Despite that my life was nowhere near the brothel.

She died on my 18th birthday and since then I've stayed in my own. I met Lucas on my 19th birthday. He helped me find my parents. And when I found them, they wanted nothing to do with me.

They hate me I don't know why but they do. And I want them to pay for what they did to my son. I hope they court will do me and my child justice" she finished.

The session went on with the lawyers questioning the witnesses.Even as it happened, Zawadi knew that nothing would come our of it. The judge was acting bias and he didn't even try to hide it.

But It didn't worry her, if the court could not give her the justice she was looking for then she would just have to get it by any means.

She even watched as people she didn't know, people she had never seen before we're dragged to the witness stand. What amused her, however Was The fact that they all testified that she didn't want to become a mother.

Things really weren't going her way but still she stayed calm, ready for whatever decision would be made, for she knew that she would hear her revenge.

That's why when the judge acquired Lisa of all the charges saying that it had all been an accident, she wasn't surprised. Far from it, she was calm.

Because she knew that she would deliver her justice come what may. She gave Lucas a hug, snuggling into him.

"It's okay, "he soothed rubbing her back.

"It's not over yet. They will pay. I'll make sure if it."Zawadi promised.
