Chapter 24: ???

To say heading back up from cargo was uneventful would be an understatement; there wasn't even a single Typhon in sight. Unlike in the game, the Typhon did not randomly spawn back into an area, something Owen was happy about. He remembered clearing out the lobby only to return and find it filled with a multitude of telepaths, technopaths, and several other types of lesser Typhon. It was a situation Owen had not been happy about at the time, making him glad now to see the desolate insides of the Talos 1 lobby.

"I will stay here and keep an eye out you two head in and get the blueprint" Joseph said as he stayed outside the entrance to the security which got him response of agreement from owen and tony who wasted no time and headed to the security room with owen using the password he had got from sarah.

"The office is over there. I'll comb the room for anything while you're retrieving the blueprint," Tony said, readying his shotgun as he began to go over the rest of the room. Meanwhile, Owen headed to the office where he found the small safe tucked in a corner. Without hesitation, he opened it using the code provided by Sarah. If he hadn't obtained it from her, Owen knew he could rely on January's database, which had the code for the safe.

Inside the safe, Owen found exactly what he expected: the blueprint along with a couple of neuromods. Adding them to his silently growing pile of inventory, he noted that he now had a nice total of 32 neuromods—a number that would leave most players envious.

'Sadly, I can't use 'em,' Owen thought to himself as he quickly met back up with his two companions, who wasted no time heading back to cargo. Their boredom was evident as, once again, they encountered no trouble along the way.

"Good job, you three. With this, we will be able to begin our plan," Sarah complimented as Owen and the group stood before her. Owen handed her the blueprint, which she promptly passed to an engineer who quickly departed, likely off to begin crafting some turrets, if Owen were to guess. However, he didn't need to ponder much, as Sarah soon instructed him to go rest for an hour before they commenced the plan.

Something Owen accepted quickly, as he could feel exhaustion catching up to him. He hadn't rested properly this entire time he had been in this world.

*1 hour later*

"ALRIGHT, EVERYONE GATHER UP AND GET READY FOR COMBAT!" Sarah's voice rang out, organizing everyone swiftly. The security officers positioned themselves behind makeshift barricades alongside non-security personnel armed with guns, facing the door where a horde of Typhon was visible on the other side.

"READY THE TURRETS!" Sarah's voice echoed once again, prompting a small group of four people, each armed with a turret in hand, to spring into action. They positioned the turrets facing towards the door, unfurling them from their portable forms. The barrels moving side to side as they began to scan around for hostiles.

"Do me a favor, and go open the door, please," Sarah spoke once again, this time directing her request to Owen. With a nod, he jogged over to the door's control panel and swiftly inputted the code to open it. Then, he hurried back behind cover, where Sarah handed him a shotgun. She herself aimed her pistol towards the now opening door.

*RATA TAT TAT*

Not even a second after the door opened, the Eradicator turrets began to unload on the Typhon, which were trying to swiftly swarm in. This was something Sarah had planned for, as she signaled for the people closest to the door to begin throwing grenades. The grenades were a mix of recycler, null wave, and EMP, each of which was useful against the different types of Typhon coming in. The Technopath quickly became the biggest problem as it tried to control the turrets, but it was luckily stopped by the nullwaves, disabling its abilities.

'This is going to take a while,' Owen thought to himself as he realized there were a lot more Typhon than he had anticipated. He had already gone through several dozen boxes of shells in the first few minutes of the engagement.

*10 minutes later*

"Done at last!" someone spoke as the final phantom fell to the ground dead. This brought a sigh of relief and exhaustion from Owen and the surrounding group. Their arms were sore from shooting their guns continuously for 10 minutes straight, something even the experienced security officers were not quite used to.

"Alright, rest up. We are leaving in 30 minutes," Sarah said, eliciting a small grumble from the tired group. No one argued as she left to attend to other matters, something Owen didn't pay attention to as he quickly headed into the area from which the horde of Typhon had flooded in, hoping to find something he thought might be important.

"It should be this container, right?" Owen thought as he found a container numbered 3232 and quickly popped it open using his data knife, something he nearly forgot about. He was forced to cover his nose as a horrible smell came flooding out. Immediately, he noticed the rotting corpse on the ground, but not wanting to waste much time, he quickly retrieved a thumb drive that he found lying next to the corpse, along with three neuromods.

The drive contained evidence of the experiments aboard Talos 1, something Owen wanted just in case he had to stay in this world for an extended period of time. He never knew when it might be useful.

'Lets go rest before its time to go,' Owen thought as he quickly returned to rest with the group, who did not notice him leave.
