"Stop, Maya! All I need now is a peaceful sleep with no disturbance."

These words that suddenly came out of Damon's lips froze Maya in place.

It sounded real, which brought a lot of confusion inside her, but she chose to remain silent for a couple of minutes and suck up everything that he had said.

The lights were off, but the moon was shining so bright that the reflection from the windows could allow one to see things to some extent.

Damon's eyes looked so angry while he was staring at her. He didn't hesitate to look away from her after saying those words.

Maya burst out in a soft laughter and clapped her hands as she jerked up to sit upright.

Damon s creasing face and drawn eyebrows didn't fail to show the confusion in his face as he caugh sight of Maya askance look at him.

"You're tired, right? I know. But that's why you have me as your wife. What is my duty then if I cannot relieve my husband of a simple stress he got at work?" She asked Evans innocently, trying to stay relaxed and maintain calmness so that her voice wouldn't sound as if she were affected by her husband's words. She wanted to convince herself that this was nothing but a result of stress from work.

Hence, she ignored the gravity of those words and slowly began to kiss him again, trying to get on top and pin him beneath her. Then she could gradually start to engulf the other man in between his legs into her mouth for a blowjob, which she was certain would make him come around and take the lead of the love-making session.

"Don't you understand a simple stop? What more words do you want me to say before you can understand that I'm tired and not in the mood for all this?" He yelled and pushed her off his body.

Stumbling out of the bed, he jerked one of the pillows and said, "You know what? I can see that this bed can no longer contain you and me tonight. You can have the whole space to yourself!" He declared and stormed out of the room.

She started to hear her heart beating so fast while staring blankly at the door Damon went out from without turning back, asking herself a lot of questions inwardly.

Her head began to ache. But for the sake of her birthday and the jewelry box she had seen earlier, she decided to pick up her phone and started swiping through her photo gallery.

Taking a look at all the lovely pictures she had taken with Damon since during their dating period till her present day in marriage, she consoled herself with a smile with positive thoughts to interrupt and put an end to all her broken heart, which was beginning to conceive negative thoughts.

The night she had pictured earlier to be short because of their preparedness for the intimacy marathon turned out to be the longest night she ever had since she got married.

She managed to force herself to sleep, with hope and belief that before dawn, she'd wake up to the sight of Damon presenting the jewellery box to her as his morning greeting.

Yes, she was 100% certain that he would definitely regret leaving the room and would come back to lie down beside her and embrace her on his chest, as such an incident of him sleeping in a different room has never occurred before.

To her great dismay, she opened her eyes around 4:00 am and still saw that the whole bed space was occupied by her alone.

Wallowing in her world of thoughts and questions, she saw Damon come back to the room and headed straight to the bathroom to take his shower.

Conscious of her cold morning greetings to him, Damon slowly moved towards her and sat down before her, placing his hands on her cheeks. He kissed her passionately for a few seconds.

"I'm sorry for last night, Hun. I was duly stressed, that's why. But I promise to make it up to you tonight. I won't explain further, but just wait and see for yourself!" He muttered softly, causing Maya to take a deep breath and heave a sigh of relief.

"But, why did you choose to do that?" She said with her eyebrows knitted.

"Please tell me if I've done something wrong to you, maybe unconsciously." She added while she looked directly at Damon.

She couldn't understand but had a strange feeling when their eyes locked. The emotions she saw in his eyes were unexplainable; it was as if something was starting to go wrong with her marriage.

"It's nothing, baby. I love you." Damon whispered, staring at her intently.

Immediately, her quick to be convinced heart was melted by those soft words, and she waited patiently for him to wish her a happy birthday and present the gift to her.

"Alright, baby. I'm off to work. I have a meeting with one of the major clients as early as 7:00am, so I need to be there in time."

Those were the next words that came out from Damon's lips after ending their kiss. She felt a rush of cold wind on her face as she stared at him dress up to leave

"Goodluck!" Maya said calmly and waved him goodbye while she sobbed and wept internally for seeing how easily her husband had forgotten her birthday.

"Is this really just stress from work? Or is my heart just exaggerating things because of what just happened?" Maya asked herself several questions, wishing that someone could hear her out and provide an answer to all those questions, or tell her that it was just an act of a movie rehearsal.

Puzzled and perplexed by the whole act, she was forced to go back to his home office to check the jewellery box, but she realised that the box was no longer there.
