*Jonathan*

I sat next to the girl that the teacher pointed. She didn't seem comfortable with me, and she was looking all the time at the window.

"What's your name? I'm Jonathan"

"I'm Alexis"

"Can I call you Alex?"

"Only if I call you Nattie"

"OK, then ALEX, as you wish. Can I ask am I making you uncomfortable?"

"You're so self-centered NATTIE. It isn't you. My bestie left town, and I always sat in the same desk with her. I already miss her so much."

"I can be your new friend then."

"Don't make me laugh, I have no time for drama with the other girls."

"What do you mean?"

"Are you blind? Haven't you seen the way they look at you? It's just the way a diabetic looks at sweets."

"I haven't noticed."

"Yeah, whatever, you're probably used with the attention. What are you even hearing on those headphones?"

"Classical music"

"What? Who even hears that kind of music nowadays?"

"Me"

"Alexis can you please tell us the Pythagorean theoreme?" the teacher interrupted us.

"Umm it's c=a-b?"

"Is that a question or an answer?" the teacher keeped provoking her.

"An answer miss."

"It's incorrect! It looks like you were to busy talking to your new desk mate."

I heard laughter. I felt bad for her, and she looked very upset and disappointed.

"Jonathan? The Pythagorian theoreme?"

"Yes miss. c²=a²+b²."

"That's correct. I see that the rumors I heard about you are correct. You're surely a smart one aren't you?"

"Thanks miss! I do my best!"

Alexis started chuckling.

"What now?"

"She totally gave you a look!"

"What look?"

"The look that girls give to McDonald's during their vegan diet. Even that old lady likes you dude."

"Really? Since you're quite the matchmaker, who am I looking like that?

"I have no idea. Mabye the math teacher...?"

"Hahah very funny!"

"Be careful, she's a married woman..." she keeped laughing.

Her laughter was so cute and I loved her dimples. I started laughing too.

"Anything you wanna share with us? You can make us laugh too." the teacher interrupted us again.

Couldn't she see I was trying to make a friend?

"No, nothing." Alex turned serious in a second.

"Ok, then." and the teacher finally left.

"She's totally jealous that she isn't the one laughing at your jokes" Alex whispered at me, and we both started chuckling again.

Finally after two cruel hours of math, we had a 30 minute break. I asked the math teacher privately if I could give Alex some private math lessons, and she surely agreed. Then she talked to Alexis about this.

I wanted a safe place, where I could be alone and peaceful, so I found a spot I thought it was nice. 1 minute later, Alex came there too, and started yelling at me.

"What are YOU doing here?"

She sounded angry. Really angry.

"Same as you. Finding a place where I can stay alone."

"How did you even find this place?"

"I was just looking for a quiet place, so I could hear my music."

"I'm sorry I yelled. It's just that...this place used to be my secret spot, me and my BTD always came here to chat about anything, and...now you know too."

"BTD?"

"Bestie till death"

"It's ok, I get it. I can leave if you want."

"No, stay. You came here first anyway."

"Soooo... are you taking the private lessons after class?

"Yes, I really need to get better grades. The teacher said that it was her idea for you to help dumb students."

(What's the matter with this old fart✋😂)

"Here, let me give you my number and my Instagram handle, so we can agree for the place and hour to meet."

"Thanks a lot! Now can I give you some advice too?"

"Sure, what is it?"

"First, try hearing some pop or hip hop music, or even rap. Second, invite the math teacher in a date."

"Hahaha, very funny Alex."

"Not my fault you don't have a sense of humor, Nattie. My bestie's texting me, so I'll see you at class."

And that's how I made my first friend at my new school.
