Landfill Life

Humanity is throwing an ever increasing amount of scrap into landfills. Plastics which no organism can digest. Chemicals so toxic no organisms known to man dare touch. Yet life finds a way amidst all this. The plastic can be absorbed as modular armor. The chemicals contain potent energy in their compositions.

Hi bullet

The worm which wore away at the wall suddenly fell through when the wall that was left was thin enough, taking entire flakes off the wall as it broke though. What lay before was an entire stream of men who ran through obstacles. Immediately, everybody stopped and stared at the worm and ran.

"Uh I think we have a problem guys…" Senny asked as his head poked through the wall, watching as the area became deserted.

There was no response as the sound was blocked by the walls. The worm squirmed out a bit further and turned to its side until it was facing the wall again and dug. The tail of the worm swung around against the wall to support its digging. Men began to pour in once again and directly began firing their guns in the underground room as the worm continued to dig into the wall.

Finally the worm retreated back through the tunnel and left behind the two holes while bullets scattered around and made many more accompanying holes, cracking the walls and sending dust plumes everywhere.

"Well Senny how'd it go? Same place?" Alejandros asked as he smiled. "Pretty loud don't you think? Any bullets get through your shell?"

"It's metal remember? It's not that easily broken." Senny retorted as he turned towards the tunnel and ran.

"Run! I'm stuck here! Alejandros carry me!" The phallic creature waved its tentacles around.

"Argh, when are you growing legs?" Alejandros grunted as he turned back into the room to lower himself to let the helpless creature up.

"Well wanna transform into humans?" A light atop its spotted dome was lit by a spark as it wondered about becoming human like.

"You know how much energy it takes us to transform right? We literally need to rebirth ourselves continuously, modifying ourselves bit by bit until we become humans!" The cockroach shouted as it ran, letting the mushroom bump against the ground as it hung between its legs.

"You ever think of where the energy comes from? The humans! Think about the energy we can get!." As it got the idea, the mushroom stood straight, no longer flaccid like before. "We could become humans! It's a genius idea! Let's do it!"

"Ugh…" The cockroach groaned as it thought about the idea. It might have to give up its precious shell. But wait. Maybe it could turn its shell into multiple sections which were all linked together. Senny could then do the same with his metal and the useless mushroom back there could sit on a pile of trash and eat it! It exclaimed, "sure thing! I love the idea!"

As the cockroach continued to move back and forth however, the creature stuck on the back fell flaccid, only kept on by the suction it had formed atop the smooth shell.

"Hmmm let's take a right turn here." Senny wondered aloud as he ran and Alejandros followed.

--Second underground layer--

The oil had already filled up the third layer and was now approaching the second layer where the slime was located. The slime still needed to digest the goop that it had sucked out of the animals after sucking out their life so it decided to create another sphere in the corner where 072827 had met its demise, filtering out impurities such as metals the animals had consumed over their lifespan.

As more and more oil was poured, the oil began to spread across the hallway. It began by rising slightly, but the moment it reached the crack in the set of doors in the warehouse of prisms and the level of liquid got over the tube left behind by the slime, the level of the oil came to a standstill.

Then dropped a drone, flying in with four blades with so many blades that it resembled a boat propeller and barrels with tubes along their sides. Inside one of the four barrels attached to a turret on the underbelly of the drone that allowed for angle changes for the armaments mounted. The barrel was sloped downwards slightly to enable the bullet to be able to reach down while the drone was flying at a level height.

It stared down the long hallway in which the mole had run down.

The transition to igniting the gunpowder inside a bullet by sending a high pulse of electricity through the easily flammable casing, much of the process was simplified through the removal of moving parts. The simplification was furthered by the introduction of an easily flammable casing which served as the point where the ignition started. Of course, the casing had to burn extremely cleanly to prevent build up of debris as well as a limited rate of fire due to the need to separate the rounds entirely, but where weight mattered, this was at the very peak.

The bullet were loaded by being pushed by thin insulative plates which suppressed electrical pulses as well as heat which were configured in a rotating wheel not unlike a water wheel. At the barrel, an electrical impulse was sent and the bullet was exploded out of the barrel, forced to spin by the rifling on the insider of the barrel. As the bullet sped through the barrel, resistance from being spun as well as from the air around it caused it to heat up, melting the thin aluminum layer on its side.

The aluminum melted away to reveal a small hole in which a chemical that burned with it touched oxygen ignited. The spinning caused the flame to spurt all around in a circle, but what was the most crucial part was when it skimmed over the glistening black layer, leaving diagonal lines of flames on the surface.

As it dipped beneath the layer of black liquid, the fire it produced stopped. There was no more oxygen left to burn. It approached the bottom of the floor, preparing to ricochet off and approach oxygen once more. As it bounced off, a ripple was sent through the oil, but nothing else. It approached the surface once more, but no fire ignited. The oil had found its way into the hole, blocking off all the oxygen that could light it.

But there was no need. The diagonal lines of flames that the bullet had drawn instantly spread and merged together. The drone instantly drew back and out, buffeted by the rush of air outwards through the elevator shaft. It popped straight out of the shaft which was now just an open hole in the ground after having the entire top layer taken apart, covered in soot from being so close to the flames. A gust of hot air burst out, but only after the air from the rest of the building which was nice and cool came out first. This pool of cool air was what the drone had ridden on to get out.

The flames below came to spew a noxious black smoke everywhere. The flames began to burn, hot enough to ignite the carbon which formed the shell of the slime. As it withdrew itself further and further, a layer of itself charred over to protect the rest of its body from the heat. As the layer of charred slime grew further though, the rate at which it grew slowed down as the heat began dissipating into the walls around it and further on into the dirt.

The air below expanded but the small gap in the door could only let out so much air at once. The air lifted the ground above it which was only a bit thick due to the room being two stories tall and being only two stories down. It erupted up, sending the buildings above ground up on a pool of hot air, but the air quickly dissipated and then everything collapsed.

--Hallway--

The fire approached the door in which there were two holes in the walls of the two labs of Leonard and John. The oil hadn't reached the height of the hole dug and thus hadn't started leaking oil in, but the hot air began rushing through the hole and tunnel Senny had dug.
