“Where the hell do you think you’re goin’?”

“I don’t know, but anywhere you’re not is fine with me.”

“Boston’s in the other direction,” he said, teasing her.

“Fine,” she said and turned. “Write sometime, Mr. Bonner, so I can have the pleasure of tearing up your letters.”

“I guess you’re gonna make me do this the hard way,” he said, walking toward her and sweeping her up in his arms. “Blaze, find a nice dry place in the cave for the horses, and, Sundog, see if you can scareup something to eat. Shiloh, you’ll need to start a fire.” He looked down at the bundle in his arms. “I’ll take care of the little she-devil here.” While carrying her toward the cave, he looked up at the sky. “Looks like rain comin’.”

“If you think I’m going to spend the night with you and your gorillas in this cave, you’re crazier than you look.”

“You don’t have a choice. We’d never get back to town before the rain started, and I ain’t ridin’ in the rain for nobody. Besides, you might catch a cold.”
