Chapter 34: Lovers to Enemies

Josie sat in the rear of the charter bus watching the forest dissipate into town. She found it almost amusing that all eyes, save the driver’s, were glued to her as if they were expecting her to do something. Her gaze slowly turned as they passed by Molly’s familiar storefront. The elder witch was adjusting a sign and happened to look up at the passing vehicle. The two seemed to lock eyes for the short time she was in view. Whether Molly could actually see her, Josie wasn’t able to divulge.

“Personally, I’d have liked to just exterminate you on the spot,” a particular nasally voice interrupted her thoughts, “but my command seems to think you’re some kind of special. Don’t look like much to me.”

“Looks can be deceiving.” Josie said before turning her gaze to the woman. She let a dastardly grin dance on her face. “They didn’t tell you what their plan was? And here you are acting so high and mighty. I thought for sure you were privy to whatever they were cooking up.”
