“Yes, I do recall you telling me that. The boys had to explain to him that it didn’t matter because you are Mates. Sean made me swear to stand by both you and him should it cause a problem. I agreed and so did the others. Have our chickens come home to roost?”

“In a way, they have. Julio told me tonight what bothered him so much, the reason why he would consider not accepting my suit. He wanted to give me one last chance to back out before the wedding.”

“What could that boy have possibly done that would engender that reaction?”

“He says he committed murder but…”

“Murder? That boy is incapable of murder. If he were, the gods would not have chosen him for you.”

“I told him that I didn’t believe he had killed anyone, and then he told me the story.”
