Nobara lies unconscious between the rival Zenin sisters, her body sprawled on the ground. Maki stands over them, her eyes filled with a mix of frustration and exasperation. "Honestly, both of you are worthless," she says, her voice laced with disdain. "Mai's only skill is loading objects with her cursed energy. What use is that in a real fight?"
Mai, clearly irritated, retorts sharply, "At least I have something. Having no cursed technique is one thing, but having no cursed energy at all? That's worse." The tension between the sisters is palpable as they continue to bicker.
Maki, seeing that the argument is going nowhere, turns her attention back to Nobara. "Can you stand?" she asks, her tone softening slightly as she looks at her injured friend.
Mai smirks, confident that Nobara is done for. "She won't be able to," Mai says, her voice dripping with superiority.
Suddenly, as if fueled by the words of her rival, Nobara stirs. Her eyes snap open, filled with determination. With a swift, unexpected move, she grapples with Mai, catching her off guard. The two women tumble to the ground, Nobara pinning Mai beneath her with surprising strength.
Nobara's eyes blaze with resolve as she holds Mai down. "You think you know everything about cursed techniques and energy?" Nobara growls, her voice filled with grit. "Don't underestimate me."
Mai struggles beneath her, her expression a mix of shock and frustration. "What the—how are you—"
As Nobara wrestles Mai on the ground, their skirmish is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Aoi Todo. His presence commands immediate attention. "Mai, it's time to leave," Aoi announces, his tone firm but casual. "I have to make it to Takada1-chan's meet and greet in Tokyo."
Mai, begrudgingly accepting the situation, scrambles to her feet and shoots a parting shot at her rivals. "Don't think this is over," she warns with a sneer. "We'll be going all out at the Kyoto Goodwill Event. Be ready."
With that, Aoi and Mai make their exit, leaving Maki, Nobara, and the others behind. The tension from their confrontation lingers in the air as the Tokyo students watch the Kyoto team leave.
Nobara, still on the ground, looks up at Maki with curiosity. "Maki, is it true that you don't have any cursed energy?" she asks, her voice filled with genuine interest.
Maki nods her expression one of quiet pride. "Yeah, it's true. I don't have cursed energy. I became a jujutsu sorcerer to prove everyone wrong, to show that even without it, I could still be strong."
Nobara's eyes widen in admiration. "That's pretty amazing. I've got a lot of respect for you," she says, her tone sincere.
Maki smiles, a hint of appreciation in her eyes. "Thanks. Let's get to the nurse and take care of those injuries."
...
In the austere, formal setting of Kyoto Jujutsu High, Principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji is preparing to meet with Principal Yaga. The door swings open abruptly, and Satoru Gojo strides in with an air of casual confidence. His unexpected arrival catches everyone off guard, especially the stoic Gakuganji.
"Gojo? What are you doing here?" Gakuganji's voice is laced with irritation, though he tries to mask it with a facade of politeness.
Satoru grins, unperturbed by the old man's displeasure. "I couldn't resist the opportunity to drop by. I've got a few questions that I think are worth asking, despite the intrusion."
Gakuganji's expression tightens, but before he can respond, a student with long blue hair and a look of awe rushes in. Kasumi Miwa, her eyes wide with excitement, is momentarily captivated by Satoru's presence.
"Is that... Satoru Gojo?" Miwa whispers to herself, her admiration evident.
Satoru catches her gaze and gives a playful wink. "Yep, that's me. I see you're a fan."
Miwa's cheeks flush, and she stammers, "I... I can get you some tea if you'd like. And maybe, um, an autograph?"
Satoru chuckles. "Tea sounds great. An autograph might have to wait."
As Miwa hurries off to prepare the tea, Satoru turns his attention back to Gakuganji. "Now, about Yuji Itadori. It seems the higher-ups decided to feed him to the wolves, quite literally. I had the pleasure of meeting two special-grade curses who seemed to be communicating with an unsettling level of intelligence."
Gakuganji's eyes narrow, a flicker of concern crossing his face. "What are you implying, Gojo?"
Satoru leans in slightly, his tone growing serious. "I'm implying that something is deeply wrong with how things are being handled. The next generation of both jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits won't be limited to special grades. There's a shift happening, and it's not just about the elite anymore."
Gakuganji's irritation grows. "And what do you intend to do about it?"
Satoru shrugs nonchalantly. "Well, I'm going to keep questioning the authority here at Jujutsu High. You're not the only one who will face scrutiny."
He pauses, considering whether to reveal more. "I could even show you just how strong Yuji's gotten, but I think I'll save that surprise for later. The longer the wait, the bigger the impact."
With a final smirk, Satoru turns to leave, leaving Gakuganji stewing in frustration. Miwa returns with the tea, her starstruck expression a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere.
As Satoru exits, he gives Miwa a friendly wave, leaving her with a memorable encounter and a hint of hope.2
