Caught by surprise

Answering the call, the screen showed Olivia, the mayor's daughter.

"Hey, beautiful! How did you find the apartment?" Olivia asked, a smirk on her face.

It was obvious that she liked how she controlled Amber.

"It's good," Amber replied, watching how Olivia disgustingly chewed the gum.

"Well, it's better than the dumpster you were living in," Oliver said, laughing.

Amber felt hurt and humiliated but didn't say anything. Her sister and mother will be in danger if she disobeys these people.

"Thank you for your kindness," Amber said, forcing herself to smile though she wanted to cry.

"Go to sleep. I'll call you in the morning." Olivia ended the call not liking Amber's reaction to her.

Putting the tablet back on the table, Amber lay down on the sofa and closed her eyes. She let the tears she was holding back fall as she cried herself to sleep. She was only nineteen years old, this was not how she imagined she would live her life.
