Chapter 9

Just like that, Jeff then did his work. The girls volunteered to help, which he nodded to as well.

So the work would be much faster. So he instructed them each to bring the materials while he went to do the building.

He then started building by following the same procedures as earlier. This time, he made it big so it could make sure that three people could fit in.

The process was a bit harder than before since, its much bigger and more comfortable than his earlier build.

He also put some palm leaves for the flooring so it wouldn't be uncomfortable.

When he was done with the finishing touches, he took a step back and looked at his build with a smile.

The girls, seeing their very own shelter, were happy while hugging each other, except for Layla. She was looking at Jeff with stars in her eyes, literally praising him for his amazing skills.

Seeing this, Jeff was surprised. So building some quality actually mattered. The more expertly and grander he made it, the higher the experience points he could get, which was over 30.

"There, it's all done. You can sleep in this shelter, and I've made it two times bigger than mine," Jeff spoke, looking back at the three.

Ariana couldn't help but be emotional from this, as her eyes turned watery.

"Jeff, thank you very much. This is very helpful for us," she said as she walked towards him.

For him he was unfazed and just wave his hands, as he smiled at her and spoke.

"Don't mention it. Since we are currently a team, it's very normal for me to help you," he replied.

"Actually, I should thank you, hehe," he said gleefully in his mind, looking at the big exp and points.

Clearly, he was ecstatic about it. Jessica also spoke while her eyes wandered around, too shy to look at him in the face.

"Jeff, I also want to express my gratitude. Thank you for your hospitality," she muttered with a bow.

Seeing her bow, he was surprised for a moment. "Aiyahh, I said it's good, so don't mention it," he replied.

Layla just eyed Jeff in the eye, and feeling her intense gaze, he looked at her. Which she also shifted her glance, so embarrassed that she was caught in the act.

"Thank you," she murmured in a low voice.

Hearing her, even in the lowest voice, he nodded. "Now, this is a good reaction, to give thanks. But why is she not looking at me, though? Girls are very strange," Jeff muttered inwardly.

"I will be going inside to explore the place, since clean water is very crucial right now. Drinking coconut juice all day will be bad for the health," he spoke aloud, as he held the axe.

Seeing his tall back, Layla was hesitant for a moment and took a step forward.

"Can I go with you?" she asked, looking at Jeff with a serious face.

Her look was very cute and charming to look at. Jeff just glanced back and looked upfront again.

"Sure, if you want to" he replied as he continued his walk.

Layla hurriedly followed his back. Jessica and Ariana also followed, since this seemed to be a good time to make a bond with their newly formed team.

Jeff, who was in the front, used the axe to slash at the way that was hard to move at. He cut every tall bush, the grasses, and even these pesky vines.

His goal for today, this time, was to find a source of water, which was very important. But if his luck wasn't good, then he had to go back and make another plan.

As they continued their journey for about a few minutes, the road was much thicker to continue their way. As Jeff was about to clean the way, a loud shout echoed behind him.

"Snake! There's a big snake! Ahhhhh!" Jessica shouted as she stepped back, with her legs shaking.

The snake was big, since it was over 48 cm in length. Its fangs were dipped with poison, hissing towards her.

She was afraid, very afraid, since she had a trauma from a snake when she was a child. She remembered greatly where a snake, bit her causing her to hospitalize.

Layla and Ariana, who were stepped away from her since she was located in the far back, were also surprised by the sudden shout.

They only saw that the snake had already leaped up, opening its big jaw, trying to take a bite.

Jessica, not accepting her fate to die, just closed her eyes in fear as her legs gave in, falling with her butt first.

A sound was made as an axe flew, making a whistling sound. The blade hit the snake's neck, removing its connection from its lower half.

The snake's head dropped in front of her abdomen, dying her clothes red, making her pale. As her mouth created a bubbling effect, she passed out.

"Jessica, are you okay?" The two hurriedly ran towards her, since she was unconscious from being too frightened.

"Jessica, Jessica, wake up," Ariana shook her in the shoulders, trying to bring her senses back.

Layla hurriedly took the snake's head with her hand and threw it away as far as she could. Even though it was gruesome, she didn't think twice.

Jeff then walked slowly, since he saw that the snake was steps away. If not, this could be a huge problem.

"Don't worry, she's fine. She only passed out from shock," Jeff spoke as he went to pick up his axe, nodding in satisfaction at how sharp it was.

Layla and Ariana sighed in relief as Jessica slowly regained her senses, looking at the two in a bewildered tone.

She was in a coma for a moment, and she felt that she had the worst nightmare in her life.

"Sorry, I scared you guys. I just had this weird dream that I was almost bitten by a snake and-" she didn't finish her words when she saw the snake's lower half that was cut.

"Ahhh! It's not a dream!" she shouted as she crawled back, trying to get away from it.

"Relax, it's already dead. Jeff just killed it, rescuing you. So you were fine," Ariana said, walking close to her as she helped her stand up.

Even though she was constantly shaking, she stood up, looking at the blood oozing from the snake's cut area. She sighed in relief now that she saw that it was dead.

"Can you carry the snake, since its meat can still be eaten" Jeff spoke to the three, since they would still have to continue, for he still needs to find a fresh water source.

Ariana was hesitant, since looking at the snake she felt how gross it was. For Jessica, she didn't even think twice, shaking her head in disagreement.

She was very afraid of touching it, even if it was dead.

"I can carry the snake for you, Captain," Layla said as she picked up the snake, uncaring about being dirty by its blood.

Jeff narrowed his brows from this and pursed his lips in amusement, "Why are you calling me Captain?"

"Since you are the one who is much more experienced than us, so it would be a good idea for you to be the captain while we are the members," Layla said, full of facts, praising him.

Jeff didn't argue from this, so he nodded. "Well, that depends on what you want to call me," he replied as they continued their journey.

He was greatly satisfied with this girl, Layla. She was not a girl that was afraid to be dirtied. She was cooperative, making him raise a thumbs up in his mind.

He went in front to clear the way while the three stood between each other, following his back.

Jessica was in the center, because she was afraid of being surprised attack by any wild animal.

She also kept a little distance towards Layla since she was holding the snake's dead body, which made her body chill.
