That night, Cassius decided it was time to have a serious conversation with Amane. He knew this was the life he had chosen, but it wasn't the life he wanted for their children.
Once the children were asleep, he approached his wife, who was laughing heartily at her favorite comedy show. That joyous laugh made it even harder for him to broach the subject.
He sat on the floor in front of her, his face serious, which immediately caught her attention. She turned off the TV, sensing the gravity of the moment.
"Wifey—no, Amane, my wife—I need to tell you something," he said, looking deeply into her eyes. She nodded, her expression turning nervous.
"What's going on?" she asked, her smile fading as concern took over.
"You know my family... the Ashbournes," he said, watching her reaction closely.
Her eyes widened, clearly apprehensive. "Did they contact you again?"
