" Eve it's good to see you're doing okay. How's the baby?"
Clark asked as the two couples sat down at a dinner table.
" Thank you, Clark, and she's doing just fine. We left her with Mark's parents."
Eve replied.
" You know mark I'm surprised you invited us out. It doesn't seem like something you would do."
Clark said as he pulled the chair out for his wife.
" Oh, you know I try to be different every now and then."
Mark replied sheepishly.
" He means he wanted to just drop a note off on your doorstep and leave without saying a word."
Eve interjected.
" Wait? Leave? Where are you guys going?"
Clark asked in confusion.
" Clark, honey menu please."
Anissa asked as she couldn't reach the menus.
" Oh, sorry honey."
Clark replied as he handed one of the menus over to the woman.
" Okay, again where are you going?"
Clark asked returning to his previous question.
" Look Eve and I decided we wanted to spend some time away from earth to relax and spend some time together instead of being smothered by work."
Mark explained as he handed a menu to Eve.
" That right? Where are you guys planning to go?"
Clark asked as he and anissa went over their menu.
" Talescria. Allen says he can get us a place to stay."
Mark explained.
" Allen? I see, well give me a call if he decides to do something stupid like before. Can't say I'll be there for ya anytime. But whenever I get a break, I'll be there to help."
Clark replied to the man.
" Oh, and what's got you so busy?"
Mark asked
" Anissa's Pregnant."
Clark exclaimed.
" Really?"
" Really? Congratulations."
Mark and Eve said at the same time.
" Thank you both."
Anissa said as she looked up from the menu.
" Do you know what you want love?"
Clark asked as the woman placed her menu down.
" Yes, I do."
Anissa replied
" Is it going to cost me a lot?"
Clark asked again.
" Yes."
Anissa stated bluntly.
" You and your viltrumite appetite."
Clark laughed
" Hey, I'm eating for two now."
Anissa exclaimed as she crossed her arms and pouted. Clark couldn't help but continue laughing at the woman as she sat there in the chair.
" Yes, you are love."
Clark said as he rubbed Anissa's belly.
" Hey, you know I don't really mind. But when did this happen?"
Mark finally asked
" What? Me and Anissa?"
Clark asked.
" Yeah! You and Anissa. You never brought her name up once."
Mark complained
" Well, you never asked. And we've been together ever since we came back to earth to stop the viltrumites."
Clark answered marks question taking a slight jab at his lack of communication skills.
" Okay, that's fair."
Mark hung his head as he replied to the man.
" Don't be sad Mark, you've been busy man. It happens. Just don't be a stranger all right?"
Clark explained to the sullen man.
" Of course!"
Mark replied with a smile on his face.
" Look at us Mark. We've come a long way from those two boys in high school."
Clark said to the man as he reminisced on his memories from the younger years.
" Yeah man, back then things were simpler. We were two idiots trying to make a difference."
Mark replied to the man as he shared his nostalgia.
" Now look at us. We're two of the strongest heroes on this planet. We have two beautiful women who'd follow us into hell if they had to, and we're both going to be fathers. If you would have told me, you'd be having a kid with one of the hottest girls at our school I'd have slapped ya in the face. But hey look at you now Mark. Though Anissa is way cuter than eve ever was."
Clark laughed as he regaled the man with everything, they had now to be happy about.
" Yeah, you're right about most of what you said, but you should have seen Eve when she was thicker. I mean those rolls were amazing."
Mark exclaimed
" I did! I can't wait for Anissa to hit that stage. I mean, boy the more I think about it the more excited I get."
Clark laughed as he imagined the woman putting on weight as she gets further along her pregnancy.
" Mark!"
" Clark!"
Anissa and Eve yelled at the two men.
" Sorry Eve."
Mark apologized.
" I'm not saying sorry. You can be a punk Uff!"
Clark gasped as Anissa punched him in the gut.
"Why love?"
Clark groaned.
" Stop thinking about me getting fat."
Anissa replied as she blew on her hand.
" Why shouldn't I? I love your body. Adding weight would only give me more to grab onto."
Clark said as he rubbed his hurting stomach.
" You're a weird one clark."
Anissa stated.
" It's hard to tell these two aren't actually brothers sometimes. The way they act when they get together, these two might as well be family. But it's nice to meet you in person Anissa."
Eve said to the woman.
" It is a pleasure Mark's mate."
Anissa replied.
" Just call me Eve."
Eve said as she held out hand for the woman to shake.
Anissa grabbed the woman's hand and shook it hard. Nearly crushing her hand in the process.
" Ouch. Quite a grip you have there. I forgot how strong your people are."
Eve said as she held her aching hand.
" Are you all ready to order?"
The waitress asked as she approached the table.
The four placed their orders. Mark and Eve choosing to eat light since they have a trip planned for later. Clark and anissa however, or more specifically Anissa, ate heavy, ordering many items from the menu ranging from steaks to pudding.
" Oh man Anissa, I know we got money, but jesus woman you keep eating like this and you'll drive us into the poor house."
Clark said as he looked at the plates of food on the table.
" I thought you wanted me to put weight on. I need to eat to do that."
Anissa replied as she ate her food.
" Wait you punched me for that earlier, but now it's, okay?"
Clark asked.
" It's okay If I say it is."
Anissa stated boldly.
" Clark, I wish you nothing but the best of luck over these next nine months."
Mark said as he looked upon the defeated man.
" I'm actually looking forward to it. Watching as she grows, knowing that's our kid she's carrying around inside of her. Yeah, I can't wait."
Clark said as he placed his hand over his wife's, smiling at her as she returned the gesture.
" Aw that's so sweet."
Eve cooed
" Why don't you guys come with us?"
Eve asked drawing the two's attention.
" I'd love to, but there's one major problem. Anissa is a viltrumite. There's no way she could get on talescria without the coalition going up in arms. And I don't trust Allen anymore after what he did."
Clark explained to the two.
" Clark, Allen said he was sorry."
Mark responded
" His virus might not have killed you Mark, but it could have killed my friends. It could have killed Anissa. They had to go through the scourge Virus once. He almost made them have to relive that whole ordeal. Besides I don't want my child to be in danger because some punk on the coalition thinks they could be a hero."
Clark explained as he ate his food. Aggressively tearing it apart.
" Clark, I'm sure Allen could figure something out. He is head of the coalition now."
Mark retorted.
" Okay, look Mark if you can convince my wife, it's a good Idea I'll go."
Clark explained to the man his only chance at getting him to leave earth.
" Okay, Anissa can you please tell."
" No."
Mark was telling Anissa before she cut him off with a simple No.
" Clark wishes for us to stay here, and I agree with him. Our people are not welcome amongst the coalition so going would only endanger our child. Besides in all honesty, I've come to love being here on earth. There are of course still many earth traditions that elude me, and I've still got a lot to learn. But being here with Clark, I'm happy. More than I've been my whole life. I want my child to know what it's like to be able to live in peace and to be able to experience what it is like to live a human life."
Said Anissa as she smiled at her husband, while rubbing her belly. The woman shared her wants for her and Clark's future child to be as happy as she was.
" Anissa, I love you."
Clark said to his wife before giving her a kiss. He was happy that Anissa had found her a place not only could she call home, but a Place she could be happy.
" That's so sweet. I'm glad you two are happy."
Eve said.
" Thank you, Eve. Hopefully your father was right in exiling Thragg. If I'm being honest, I want Anissa and I to hang up our boots and suits all together."
Clark exclaimed
" You want to stop being a hero?"
Mark asked
" Mark, I stopped being a hero a long time ago. And I want you to do the same. Stop holding back. Fight to kill."
Clark explained to the man.
" But."
Mark tried to argue.
" No buts Mark. We're going to be fathers, hell you already are. I don't care who or what. But anyone that threatens my family dies. If you ever remember any advice, I give you mark, remember this. Being a hero is bullshit."
Clark explained to the man his new views on being a hero.
" Do you really feel like that clark?"
Mark asked
" Yes, I do Mark. How many people have died because the villains we lock up, keep getting out? Too many. It's hard to admit, but it's the truth."
Clark admitted sadly.
" You shouldn't feel sad clark, you speak truth."
Anissa stated bluntly as she finished what was left of her food.
" Jesus, love. I didn't think you'd actually be able to finish all of that."
Clark said as he stared at the empty plates neatly stacked on the table.
" What, I was hungry. i told you I was eating for two."
Anissa replied.
" Yeah, well we should get going. It's late and we've got to get ready to leave in a few hours."
Mark said.
" Check please!"
Mark yelled as he raised his hand for the waitress to deliver the checks.
" Dear god!"
Clark yelled as he looked at the astonishing bill.
" One thousand dollars. I've never seen a dinner bill so high before."
Clark said as he pulled his wallet from his pocket. He took out his red card and placed it the book for the waitress to take. Once she returned the two couples said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.
" Well, did you have fun tonight?"
Clark asked as he carried his wife home.
" Yeah, actually. It was different from what I'm used to."
Anissa replied as nuzzled into Clarks arms.
" Hey, you know Mark and Eve still don't have a name for their kid. Don't you think we should think about it now?"
Clark asked
" Hm, Clarky?"
Anissa asked
" Anissa, our kid will get bullied with a name like that. I don't want us to have to go to school because our kid beat a kid into a coma. And besides we don't know if it will be a boy or a girl."
Clark explained.
" Johnathan."
Anissa stated
" Like my father? It's a nice name. But once again we don't know if it will be a boy. So, how about this If it's a boy Johnathan Kent. If it's a girl Marissa Kent."
Clark stated
" I get Johnathan. But why Marissa?"
Anissa asked
" Because Anissa Marissa. See they almost rhyme."
Clark cheered.
" We aren't calling my baby girl Marissa. Instead, how about Nyssa?"
Anissa asked
" That sounds just like Marissa."
Clark laughed.
" We've got time to think on it. But we at least agree on the boy's name for now."
Clark chuckled as he flew through the night sky.
