In an apartment, a handsome yawning 16-year-old boy with dark silver-blue hair and blue eyes woke up from bed after stopping the annoying sound of his phone's alarm. Sitting up, he looks out his bedroom window and sees the sunlight entering inside.
"Another day, another struggle…!"
The boy slowly dragged his body out of bed and got ready for school, showering, picking out his clothing which was his Kuoh Academy Uniform with a red shirt, his jacket with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black jeans, blue shoes with white accents and white hoodie to keep him safe from the sunlight.
He quickly got dressed and seeing how he still had enough time for a quick breakfast, the boy decided to rush towards the fridge.
"Let's see what we have today."
Opening the fridge, I barely found anything good that wouldn't make me throw up, thanks to a past accident that made me have some pretty sensitive tasting buds. And while I could eat almost anything that's considered food, contrary to what most people would have thought, that doesn't mean I could enjoy the taste of all of them. The best thing that doesn't make me directly regret my decision is usually anything that isn't overly complicated or that has more than one spice in it, which is why I tend to eat simple meals.
Taking two pieces of toast and putting them into the toaster, I turned around to close the fridge, when I saw a rather big raven landing on my windowsill.
"Morning, Scar. Do you want some bread?"
The raven nodded at me and while it may seem and sound crazy, I actually like this little guy. He was the first friend, I made when I moved here from Tokyo. Having to bury both my parents and my older sister, made me realize how much I missed them and their love and how hard my life will be without them looking after me and helping me when I was in need of their help. Not to mention that thanks to whatever that girl did to me a few years ago, my life was never like before, but even though it made my life significantly harder, thanks to that I had to become quite picky with my food and even got to learn the hard way that I'm kind of in need of drinking one liquid I never ever thought I would have to drink to live, and that is human blood.
It was a harsh period of my life and only thanks to Scar and my aunt did I manage to get out of my depression. I met Scar when he was fighting against an owl and while I was certain that he would have somehow won the fight, I couldn't let the poor little thing die due to its serious injuries, and so after I chase away the owl, I looked around to see if there are any other owls or even raves that could attack him, and thankfully there weren't any of them around so I gently picked him and took him to my aunt clinic. While she wasn't a veterinary nurse, she knew how to treat wounds, even if those wounds were on a raven. Thankfully she was free when I got there with the wounded raven, and after half an hour she walked out of the room with a little dark raven that looked like a mummy.
The next day we took him to a proper veterinary doctor to check him and after that, he kept following me everywhere I go. Sometimes he even sleeps in my room while other times he will bring me all kinds of trinkets or even money which, to be honest kind of make me smile at how thoughtful he was.
Snapping out of my thoughts when I saw Scar looking angrily hitting me with his beak, I could only smile at him while at the same time I broke some bread for him. After that, I took my toast and put some peanut butter and jam on them.
Eating my breakfast, I begin to think about how I would try to integrate into my new school. The school had become a co-ed school over the summer and my aunt decided to enroll me here as it will, without a doubt, make her job of taking care of her only nephew, easier than going almost daily to Tokyo to check on me.
To be honest, I didn't even hesitate to move from that place, as it held some bad memories related to how my family died and the only reason I'm still alive is that I was at a local shogi competition, which I won, but at what cost?
As I was drinking a mouthful of my daily dose of human blood, yeah human blood, that episode when I was at a club and met a girl, made me into some sort of vampire or some similar kind. While the sunlight won't harm me, it will make me slightly uncomfortable, not to mention my need of drinking blood every few days to remain sane as I would like to avoid transforming into a crazy bloodsucker monster. Unfortunately, I had to experience that before I even know what was wrong with me and I would not recommend going through that. At first, the symptoms weren't visible, but as the days passed by, I found that I was slowly, but surely becoming better at anything. Running? Break the record in just a weak. Seeing at night? I could outrun a cat with bat sonar if I wanted to. At the same time, my other sense had also got an overhaul upgrade.
Unfortunately, I also remember the first time I went lost my sanity to my blood hunger and killed a poor man that was drunk and passed out in an alleyway. Every now and then I dream about his face when he saw me sinking my teeth in his neck and the horror on his face when his life was being drained from him.
Shaking my head to forget about those dark times, I saw Scar, tapping the clock that I put in the kitchen. Apparently, I was about to be late on my first day at school if I don't leave right now, well I could run pretty fast if needed so there wasn't any reason to be late, unless something bad happens.
"Let's go, buddy. We have a new territory to conquer with our looks."
"Kraa!"
<A few minutes later>
Rias Gremory was looking out of one of the old school building's windows, which provide her with an excellent view over the school grounds. She opened the window of the occult research club and leaned slightly on the windowsill while at the same trying to find a rather interesting person. She let her gaze wander from student to student, watching them hurrying towards their respective classes. While some of them stopped talking to their friends. She also saw her childhood friend at the gate, most likely doing her daily routine of keeping an eye on all of the students.
It was morning, maybe a few minutes, at most an hour before the lessons would begin and the school was already very much alive with dozens of students doing their things and rushing all over the place. The crimson-haired beauty scratched her nose, as her eyes wandered over a new face. She didn't realize it at first, but her gaze returned quickly, following the new guy in his way. Kuoh-academy used to be exclusively for girls and it was only one year ago when the board of directors decided to restructure the academy to allow mixed education. To be honest, Rias imagined it worse than it actually became, after all those girls barely had any contact with the male gender, she thought the place would soon be flooded by teenage boys, driven by their hormones. But it could be worse, she assumed. Yes, there were a group of three very perverted guys that makes any female on the school ground fear for their privacy, but other than that, most of the guys here seemed rather decent. Also, there didn't seem to be an awful lot of male students enrolled at all, the vast majority still was female. Rias let her thoughts wander around, while she inspected that new face on the schoolyard. She liked having track of who was who and if they are special in some way.
"Akeno?"
Rias called for her best friend and servant. She heard her queen setting a cup of tea down on the table in the clubroom.
"Yes, Rias?"
Akeno replied as she stepped to Rias' side, following her gaze to a rather tall boy, with dark silver-blue hair. The clothes he was wearing didn't manage to hide his exquisite physique. He was very athletic and the sizes of the male school uniforms seemed to be more for the slender type of person. He had a noticeably broad back and defined muscles, clearly visible in some areas on his suit coat, and not even the white hoodie that he was wearing could hide his body. Rias resisted the urge to bite her lower lip, as she watched the young man walking slowly, almost carefully towards the main schoolhouse. She also noticed that he had a bird on his right left shoulder.
He seemed very calm and collected, maybe a little too much for someone of their age. For a brief moment, she saw him turning his head towards them and smiled a little, especially to her. Rias didn't know of course, but she used the chance to look at his face. He had almost unnatural blue eyes, so blue in fact they seemed like an endless sea. But there was something else about him as well, he seemed to have a scar of some sorts, but not one that was on the outside, not it was different, something that she knows way too well for her liking, but before she could look at him some more, the new guy had already turned away and proceeded to walk to his destination which she believes to be her friend. From where Rias was standing and from what she saw the new boy had a rugged handsomeness to him. He was definitely better looking and taller than someone that's in middle school or maybe he was a high school student just like her? But then why wouldn't he wear a uniform? No, the new boy surely was someone close to her age, she didn't have any doubt about it. Maybe the boy was the new transfer student that her friend told her about.
She had to admit that while the boy was quite different from his peers he didn't seem to be anything special at least not from this far away. Who knows what he may hide?
