Zoran smiled. “Indeed you did. Now do it again, and this time try to maintain it long enough to leave the room.”

Scott grinned. “With my luck, I’ll come back as me when I’m halfway under the door.”

Chuckling, Zoran said, “I doubt it, now that you know it’s possible.”

Scott misted again, then slowly moved to the door and under it, in that form. He returned a moment later, still as mist, before reforming as himself.

“This is fun. I can spy on people, now.”

“Scott,” Zoran replied firmly. “That is not the reason we do this. It’s a matter of self-protection, should we hear someone approaching who might wish us harm.”

“I know. I was kidding. Well, sort of.” Scott frowned. “No one believes in us, so who’d want to hurt us in the first place?”

“There’s belief, and belief. There are humans who want us to exist, so they look for proof that we do. It’s up to us not to give it to them.”

“All right. That makes sense.”
