Chapter 15

* * * *

Saturday afternoon, Kevan came into the bookstore, rather than calling Craig. From the look on his face, he had some good news. At least that’s what Craig hoped it meant.

“Can you take a couple of minutes so we can talk,” Kevan asked as he looked around the busy bookstore.

“Most of them are browsing. Nicola can handle it if someone decides to buy. Well, if I can find her, to let her know she should come up front.”

He did, at the back of the store, straightening up a set of shelves someone had obviously had too much fun ‘rearranging,’ which meant putting books back willy-nilly when they were finished looking at them. “People,” she grumbled as she followed him back to the front counter. “I swear.”

“The joys of retail,” Craig replied with an eye roll. Then he took Kevan into what he laughingly called his office. It was barely larger than a storage closet, with piles of books stacked along one wall, waiting to be added to the inventory.
