"Whose hammer is this? If no one claims it, I'll sell it," Jason announced, lifting the hammer in the air.
Thor, who had been watching closely, immediately grew serious. "Mortal, that is not something to toy with."
Jason glanced at Thor with mild irritation. "You tossed it around yourself. Why can't I play with it?"
Thor stepped forward, a dark frown crossing his face. "Do you know who I am?"
Jason smirked, pretending to ponder. "The Hammer God?"
Thor's face contorted in frustration. He'd just boasted to Stark about how only the worthy could lift Mjolnir, and now this stranger had casually done so. He moved to retrieve his hammer, but Tony Stark intercepted him.
"Relax, Hammer God," Tony said, gesturing for calm. "Thor here dropped the hammer while dealing with some Extremis-enhanced thugs. Things got intense."
He turned to Jason, nodding in introduction. "This is Jason. I told you about his… unique luck."
"Extremis?" Jason asked, casting a curious glance at Tony.
Tony nodded gravely. "Hawkeye's in the hospital from that fight." But Jason showed little interest in the story, already turning away.
"Hey, Hammer God," Jason said, tossing the hammer back to Thor with ease. "Don't go throwing this thing around." He grabbed his bag, preparing to leave.
Thor, increasingly riled, muttered under his breath, "Mascot, let's settle this with a fight!" With a fierce glint in his eye, he threw Mjolnir toward Jason.
Unexpectedly, the hammer touched the black bag on Jason's back and emitted a flash of light, bouncing off at high speed. It ricocheted back at Thor, knocking him flat on the ground with a loud thud.
"What…?" Thor lay there, bewildered. He clearly hadn't thrown it that hard.
Jason glanced back, unfazed. "You want to fight me?" he asked nonchalantly.
Thor got up, clenching his hammer tightly. "Yes. Let's do this."
Tony quickly stepped in between them. "Or maybe… we celebrate? The Mandarin is down; I'd say that calls for a drink!" He glanced at the battered top floor of a nearby building. "Okay, maybe a bar instead."
Jason chuckled, throwing one last look at Thor. "It's better to fight me if you can hit me." Then, he turned and left, Lorna following behind.
As they walked off, Thor looked at Stark, confusion on his face. "What does that mean?"
Tony shrugged, smirking. "Means if you fight him, you'll probably just end up getting beat."
Jason, now back home, unzipped his bag to find that Thor's hammer had shattered a scepter inside, revealing the Mind Gem. It seemed Thor's hammer had helped after all, sparing Jason the trouble of carrying a hidden gem around.
Just as he pocketed it, Lorna called out from the doorway. "So, still up for that drink?"
Jason turned, smirking. After all, she'd been by his side through all this chaos. "Sure."
He was about to head out when the doorbell rang. Opening it, he was met by a stern face that made him frown.
"Magneto," he muttered, bracing himself for whatever trouble lay ahead.
